Guild Wars 2

So I had left GW2 after about a year it came out. The character i made to level 80 was a ranger, but it seemed like no one ever really liked ranger. Worries about “damage output” in dungeons, not very powerful in pvp, and could’ve been ignored in WvW. During this time, mesmers and thieves ruled.

So, my question is, are rangers better now or is it more or less the same?

WvW still the same, rangers are ok roamers and probably the worst class in a zerg.
PvP rangers are ok, we have room for a improvement for sure.
PvE dungeon, rangers are actually quite good IF you run with the trait spotter and the skill frost spirit and sword as weapon for max DPS and the spotter and FS to rise the party damage with unique buffs that only rangers can give.

Soon we’ll have an update that will change the trait system and also with HoT expansion we’ll get the Druid elite specialization and that may change a lot of things, so I would pay attention for new infos.

Rangers are probably at least as strong as thieves from roaming and very good for cc in zergs. Most rangers think the class is useless for zerging but that is completely l2p.

Dungeons – pretty good, upper end tbh. IF you are using SW/X (and honestly greatsword is okay too). you’ll occasionally run into whiners though

Open world pve – top tier.

WvW – great roamers, meh in zergs

Spvp – we’re okay. not awful but not great either

WvW zerg mode…

gs + sword/axe or sword/war horn.

you impact with the lead melee. 3 then 5 then 2. your 2 with gs can do + 175 dmg with the right skills . you can crit from 7000 to 10000 in one 2 on 5 person. then switch to sword ifou have the axe and do 4 then 5 with the invulerability skill. then escape with your 3 and 2 from sword. dont forget to use your entagle ult and combo again with gs.

i dont say it will be better than a guard or warrior but that way a ranger can be very usefull in zerg vs zerg. not to mention your water zone with your heal for the party to explode.

if you play condi, axe/torch with traps and entangle gives you great condi aoe. place them right and they will not insta dispel them.

thats the best way i can find to play ranger in a bus. but not to forget that in every well organized bus there is some monotarget party. here the ranger is king and you can choose to nuke one or two target. (percing arows appreciable). nuke the lead and you win… or choose backline staff elem or necro to kill their support aoe.

Ranger doesn’t do enough AoE to be great in zergs, but picking people off on the periphery is perfect work for them.

Useless? No, but I would say thief is the only class that compete as the worst zerg class, even mesmer have their role in a zerg that no other can fill.
