Question about sun spirit
burning does not stack it increases duration

Yep and I think for DPS frost would definitely be better in groups for that. The lack of an internal CD that enables multiple +10% attacks to occur in sequence.
Sun assuming the ranger is a condition build is probably better when the ranger is out in PvE as the ranger applies 3 seconds of burning each 10 seconds along with the pet applying 3 seconds. Although pets low fixed condition damage makes their stack less impressive. In a condition build test I was putting out 1800+ damage on a single target plus the pet doing somewhere over 600. I don’t do 36,000 damage in 10 seconds so sun would be preferred for PvE solo work I think. (minus those pesky immune to fire damage targets). Essentially sun spirit gives you a single target unimproved flame trap of damage on a slightly faster CD + some extra pet damage from the same.

A whittling ranger becomes viable by forcing his opponent to whittle
I hadn’t really thought about this until last night and was hoping someone could shed some light on it…
The Ranger Sun spirit gives a chance for each party member’s next attack to burn the target.
Does this stack?
I actually don’t recall burning ever stacking on a creature. If that is true, it would mean I probably should be using another spirit in groups (ie. Air).
If you have a condition damage player in your team burning is the est damage due to 100% uptime you can get with 3 ppl (you and your pet + 1 other player) because burnin will calculate its damage based on the highest damage source so if you have 12 people an 10 have 0 condi and one has 200 and another has 1500 all that burning will register as the guy with 1500 putting it up.
If you’re against things immune to condi or have no condi people in the group use frost, it has no ICD on the proc and as such can be a lot better then burning in areas where everyone is high raw dmg (the Zerg in WvW is ideal for frost spirit)

The burning sounds nice, but because there are so many people who already apply burning so easily, the benefit of bringing this spirit often doesn’t do nearly as much as you would think it does in a lot of situations (particularly against single target boss fights).

Depends on your group comp, I know the one I normally run with our condi person is a necro (who have no burning) so bringing a sun spirit that puts all the burning we apply and uses his whopping 1700 condi damage for it makes things freakin melt

Yes, as I just said, it depends on the situation.
