Hey guys; thats a opinion topic.

Im play the power pew pew LB build, and i have a few doubts and wanna know whats YOUR choises for my doubts. I play 80% of time WvW solo roam and 20% of time with zerg. So here it goes:

-Whats ur 3rd trait line? I mean, i guess eveery1 chooses Markmanship and wildness survival, so whats the 3rd line u choose, and why? Ive testing Nature Magic, Beastmastery and skirmishing, and boths are amazing;

- 2nd weapon set. Do you play LB/GS or LB/sword-x ? and why? I cant choose it too lol boths are good ;p

I have a ranger, about 100+ games into PvP with him now, still learning.
But having watched many ranger streams this is what I notice

1) GS gives more burst and less survivability. Sword/dagger gives more survivability and less burst. Choose what you want according to your playstyle. Both are great.

2) You forgot to ask about the pets! I feel a LB pew pew ranger got quite a few pet options to play with, all pretty good. I’ve seen spider/pig combo, dog/wolf combo the most.

3) i dont know which traits to go either. although marksmanship is not a must.

marksmanship, skirmishing, nature magic. I use sword/horn because sword is fun and horn buffs my longbow.

red moa, wolf.

A lot of builds are open now. I am still using mine primarily because it is as close as I could get to my previous build. I roam and small group and a tiny bit of zerging.

I swap between sic-em, sig of stone, sig of wild, technobabble. Depending on what I see going on.

Skirmishing as 3rd line because of Quick Draw. Greatsword as 2nd weapon because I took Quick Draw. GS profits much more from the Quick draw effect than a sword dagger set. The sword dagger set can basically reduce the cooldown of a already low cooldown dodge skill if I need the defense, which maybe “protects me” for about a second more. Best use is probably doubling the jump skill anyway. With GS I can use the 3s block skill twice on every weapon swap when I need the defense, or I can still choose to use the jump skill twice to quickly get away. This in my opinion puts it defensively above S/D when roaming, not to mention the higher offensive capabilities.

I use Wolf and have different options for the second pet. I basically switch between a Bird, Black Widow or the Kryta Hound however I feel like. They are all usefull.

Played roughly 2k games (hotjoins, tournament, unranked etc. )

I’ve taken beastmastery for the very strong taunt as the Grandmaster. I find Quickdraw in skirmisher really overrated and not suited for LB due to the need to swap. Nature Magic is okay but offers no real utility like Beastmastery does.

I use Greatsword for mobility/ the block and Maul. The Block is the main purpose for the GS as it provides such much needed damage avoidance while you wait for your heal/endurance or stealth to come off CD. It’s also very helpful against thieves or mesmers who have gone into stealth.

If you go Beastmastery, you should probably choose a bird like the Raven as a pet as the F2 cooldown lines up well with taunt.

I also go Beastmastery, and with it, take the AoE Blind on F2, GS cd reduction, and Taunt to Pet on F2 traits. I run Greatsword as my alternate weapon, and go for 2 birds as my pets (I go for Eagle and Snow Owl) because of the low cooldowns on their F2s (icd on the taunt is 15 sec, and both are below that on their F2, I believe).

With my zerker build, I have gone toe to toe with medi guardians and thieves in 1v1 and dominated PvP (with Marauder ammy).

I go Resounding Timber and use SotP and We Heal as One.
Run Zerker or marauder ammy.
Then weakness on pet F2 and taunt.

Have a raven for the taunt and a hawk for weakness spam.
Go Marksmanship and wilderness survival for the other two.

Only thing I’ve been having trouble with is a Really good mesmer or a engi who knows how to use Grenade Barrage.

It’s a pretty solid build as you get reduced damage by 5% when you have regen, a very strong 16 second heal, reduced CD on your stability, strong pet, strong damage and strong CC.

Full zerker lb gs. Mm ws bm. Lead the wind, wilderness knowledge, beastly warden. Owl and raven for 15 sec taunt. If u master when to time taunt depending on the situation and stay ahead of the situation, this build is very durable. As always, theres room for zero to one mistake, if u play it right u can last longer in a fight than pre patch glassbow.

For WvW, I’ve seen both work in different ways, but I ended up thinking that Marks/Wilderness/Nature was the best combo for running glassy because the traits pretty much cover all of your weaknesses.

However, in smaller group play, I’ve found Beastmaster instead of Nature Magic useful with both Zephyr’s Speed and Beastly Warden.

For roaming, I’d probably end up with Beastmastery with Marksmanship and Wilderness, but if I found I was taking too much damage from things, I would forgo the Beastmastery with it’s offensive utility and take Nature Magic for the defensive utility it brings.

In general, I’d call Nature Magic the “safe” option for WvW. Beastmastery won’t really help you “pew pew” any better other than maybe taking advantage of Zephyr’s Speed here and there, but Nature Magic combined with Wilderness will almost certainly save you in situations where you otherwise wouldn’t have survived when thieves or whatever else jumps you.

In a more general sense too, one is active offense, and one is passive defense, so it really ends up being which you feel you need more.

How about food and utility food for WvW? Whats the best option?

Another question for pew pew’s: After the update, have u ever won a 1v1 againt a mesmer? either condi or power;

Its…impossible. So many reflect, stealth uptime and bust damage/condis. They need to nerf those reflect otherwise we will be mesmer food.

Key for fighting mesmers is to get them early. I use taunt or a knockdown from stealth and then burst while they’re CC’d. Most don’t expect it.

Another trick is to stealth while they’re reflecting by shooting a clone with Hunter’s Shot. Then when the reflection comes down you can burst.
CC and timing is crucial for fighting them

While outnombered Quickdraw on Maul is far from safe. Except maybe when stacking NPC on camp cap.

I recommend Beastmastery (Drakes, Canines,…) for the Taunt and the same reason.

Mesmers are easy targets for us :

  • Tab to get the real one immediatly
  • Stun/Daze (LB 4 or GS3+5 if reflect.)
  • Rapid Fire or Maul should make them find refuge in stealth
  • Signet of Stone when they try to burst you out of stealth
  • Pet skill for CC.
  • Repeat from step one and don’t let go this time, 111
  • Mesmer daed

My roaming and pvp build right now. Beastmastery line works rly well now. Birds can hit hard when stacked with might. Reduced cooldowns on LB and GS. Shame they put the Moment of Clarity in the same tier as Brutish Seals, but I can menage. Enlargement can be a godsend in some fights. Skirmishing taken basicaly only for the Quick Draw, but the bleeding buffs ones dps pretty nice.

Celestial scrubs, just die already…

LB/S+D, Beastmastery as third, double burd, namely Raven and Owl. Bm tree is worth running just for the Taunt on F2, not to mention birds hit like a very angry truck. As of current, Beastly Warden interrupts blocks, Blurred Frenzy (!) and Renewed Focus (!!!), so it’s great for blasting through those long defensive skills and forcing a rapid fire down their throat.

As for the weapon choice, i ran both GS and S/X, and while GS is a great choice, i feel it doesn’t work that well without Quick Draw and otherwise it’s quite predictable. S/D gives you a highly unpredictable kiting skill in #2 and a metric crapton of evades. It’s just plain easier for me to avoid all the dangerous melees on a sword set.

As of now i play pretty much exclusively sPvP, but i’ve spent a good while roaming WvW on a full glass power ranger.

Disclaimer 1: Im not full zerker i run some Knights(power precision toughness) armors and amulets/rings. I was running Signet of Stone(180 passive toughess) plus toughness utility food

Even if you were in full zerker gear, nobody should be able to do that amount of damage that fast. I downloaded the video and ran it at 10% speed and I still cannot see what happened. 8 Arrows of RF animated while under the effects of quickness and you were down. That is about 1.5s. That equates to about 11,000 DPS. Absurd.

I chose Skirmisher for quick draw. It has great utility to it. I can do double maul to kill my enemies faster, or double Swoop to create more distance so I can pew pew more. Then I switch back to longbow and pew pew some more.

  • LB/GS.

I would play sword/x if sword didn’t root. It is just way too clunky for me.

5x Warrior, 5x Ranger, 4x Elementalist, 4x Engineer,
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

Yep, thats the point. No1 should bee able to do that damage.

Lets supose i survived the mesmer burst…how would i defeat her? Mesmer caan stack up to 10 secs to projectile reflect, plus shater invulnerability skill plus lots of stealth.

Greatsword with quick draw is amazing. I use remorseless because I am often in melee due to my playstyle. I am considering and will try skirm/wilderness/bm.
