Rabid gear survivability? How?
If the problem was switching to Rabid gear… perhaps use different gear? A combination of Rabid, Carrion and Dire, perhaps, to boost your toughness with your vitality.

Try taking sword over axe. The survivability it gives over an axe is very noticable.

Axe/Dagger is okay since you can setup for Splitblades, but in all seriousness I’m not a huge fan of precision-based condi-Rangers. Regen upkeep is the bread n’ butter of a Ranger’s sustainability (NM Minor Nature’s Bounty). It also helps to abuse evades + regeneration with high DPS pets like Jaguar / Owl / Raven.
Try running Apothecary / Settlers using Dwayna Runes and Signet of the Wild.
Thank you for the replies.
I switched to rabid because I wanted to find a build that would work and has nothing to do with apothecary.
Apothecary also costs a lot of gold, plus the runes, weapons, trinkets etc and I simply can’t afford it right now and probably won’t in the near future.
You dont need regen nessesarily.. It took me a long time to get used to playing without it after playing on fauxs original RRR build for far too long, but if you can get yourself 2900+ armour and 20k+ HP honestly you’re good to go. TU is one of the very best heals in the game, it will keep you alive :P

Try mixing in Sword/Dagger - the ability to disengage, poison, and/or evade on relatively short cooldowns is very crucial. That being said, rangers unfortunately are the easiest to target given their lack of reliable stealth/deception and condition clears (1 utility, 1 heal, 1 10 second traited CD, 1 pet). Sure, you can trait for signets to get 6 seconds of invul and also take protect me... but in WvW where you get perma-immob’d and/or caught easily; it’s rather useless.
