Yeah… the Class could use -some- fixes, but i’d much rather have my HoM reward be shiney and pretty than be balanced in WvW and PvE (we’re fine in PvP which is where i play competitively).

Then again that’s me, and my opinion… and i know a lot of people are going to screech at me for it xD

The new one is prettier from the image alone, and if it has a “glowy” membrane, all the better.

Perhaps I’m too colorblind to really notice a difference. Only difference I see is a bit of different coloring/texturing on the top “dome”.

I’m fine with either and I don’t have it anyways.

I’d say you should go forward and make this change. If people like the current look, they can simply get the blue Jellyfish. More diversity is better than unneeded redudancy.

It has come to my attention that this uses a different model than the blue Jellyfish that happens to look Kitten EXACTLY the same. I am planning on fixing this within the next month but needed to get some feedback from rangers about their feelings about their HoM rainbow jellyfish pets changing how they look. I can assume that they will be happy, but you know what happens when you assume.

Post your thoughts on this internet forum thread and I will read them.

I use this on my Ranger and honestly, I barely noticed because most jellyfish look basically the same anyway. I think if the new model has some sort of rainbow trail coming from its tendrils to really set it apart from the rest, that’d be super swell. I’m totally down for the change at large, though.

We don’t care. Just give us a dps increase and the ability to play without a pet so we are actually a viable profession in a dungeon.

All I wanted for it is to have the colors of the rainbow on its axis, animated. Red followed by orange, followed by yellow and so on, and they all go from the proximal end to the distal end, in a continuous animation.

Is the intent of this post that it be in the same vein of the developer that was laughing about Ranger aquatic fixes in the ArenaNet discussion video? I’m just curious.

It depends on who is doing this. If this isn’t taking resources from the balance team, then I don’t care. If it’s a form vs. function issue, I’ll take function every time.

Yes, this is TOTALLY what the ranger needs.

Not fixing their horrid trait lines, not improving pet AI, not making utility skills actually bring some UTILITY in a team, no, what rangers really need is a fix for the rainbow freaking jellyfish texture.

I love the jelly-pet and I use both the blue and red one and I am glad that they look different from each other. So having a third jelly-look for the rainbow would be awesome! Despite the name however, I hope that there isn’t a lot of rainbow action going with this new skin. Ranger’s already have some very flowery and flashy Legendary weapons, so the more natural and subtle looking Ranger items/pets are very much appreciated for my character aesthetic.

That being said, it might be interesting to play with some bioluminescence like others have posted about, but maybe the glow’s color could slowly cycle through a small spectrum to play off the rainbow aspect without having every color visible at the same time.

You don’t understand. The ranger profession is so unfinished that EA is trying to publish it, and here’s Jon, who promised “big buffs” in what ended up to be known as the “Aquaman Update”, talking about a PET TEXTURE instead of talking about actual issues.

About jellyfish: well, I know that elite stuff is and should be elite, but… we already have rainbow animation in game. What Im thinking about is The Bifrost. And its land-only weapon, so there is no underwater animation that looks like rainbow Bifrost aura, maybe jellyfish could get something like this around?

The one in the image you provided looks too green and blue, not enough rainbow to fit its name.

There’s a nice concept art picture of the rainbow jellyfish in the hall of monuments website page. It would be cool if it could reflect that, which would kind of be a reverse of the blue jellyfish colors (blue/green on top, red on bottom opposed to red on top, blue/green on bottom)

And if its not too much work, would it be possible to give its F2 skill special colors? It would be awesome if its whirl would be all rainbow colored rather than snowy.

I would love a rainbow jelly that was actually rainbow in color. Really though, anything to make it different than the other jellys would be nice.

Hey Jon! I honestly find the new model of the Rainbow Jellyfish to be a bit underwhelming. It looks quite a bit more bland than the Blue Jellyfish it currently shares it’s skin with. Granted, you did mention it would have a glowing effect. If that is the case then maybe seeing an animated model, or perhaps a video, of it would allow us to form a better opinion.

I added an image for reference. It doesn’t really show it off in motion, but I’m not skilled enough to make an animated gif. I will say the new one is cooler looking IMO and does have a cool “glowy” membrane on its head.

What makes a “rainbow” jellyfish "rainbow is the rainbow like lights it emits. If the new one simply “glowy” in a monotonous color, then don’t even bother wasting time on aesthetic change. Because;

1) It’s an underwater pet, we can’t really display it in a town where everyone can see it.
2) I’m personally using my Shark and either the Armored Fish or my Bear underwater.
3) Why? Why change this instead of the Blue Jellyfish?

But if the aesthetic change is distinguishable like the Rainbow Phoenix in GW1, then yes, I would definitely like that.

This is the concept art of the Rainbow Jellyfish that was promised by ArenaNet to the people who unlocked it through their HoM. You might want to use that for guidelines on how it should have looked.

That’s some real fancy calligraphy you got going on there Jon. ‘New’ and ‘old’. I take it your tools of trade were MS Paint and a mouse! :D Anyways, I think the new one says ‘blue jellyfish’ more so than the old one does in terms of colours and design. I like the look of it though and I haven’t seen shiny glowing animations yet. So, I say yes I’m all for the change because I would rather the rainbow jelly model be unique.

And since we are on the subject of pets, I feel it is more important to mention that griffins, raptors and dolphins should really pets. Especially Dolphins. <3 (:

I have used my Rainbow Jellyfish from the moment I obtained it, and I have always felt a little disappointed that it wasn’t more rainbow-like as in the pictures in the Hall of Monuments calculator. Also, that there was no distinction between it and the Blue Jellyfish. If this new Rainbow Jellyfish does nothing but set itself a bit apart from the others, then yay!, but I would like it to live up to its name a bit more. Thank you for asking for our opinions. =)

Doug, the main purpose of the thread is immature and insulting to the ranger community. I don’t recall any dev making a thread regarding the two similar bird pets with different names or about the white raven not having the correct ammount of vitality.

My point is, you don’t show up here posting some crap about an underwater pet skin that I will barely see (or never, this is underwater combat we’re talking about) when the whole subforum is full of complaints/buglists.

Let me say first that I really appreciate this. It may be a minor thing to some, but the fact that you go out and ask the players for their opinions instead of blindly chaging stuff is something that should be greatly commended. I really really like that you’re doing this.

As for the jellyfish, I like the way the current one looks. However, if you feel that the new one will look even better, than I’ll trust your word on it. So my vote goes to the second one.

Considering the thousands of posts and tens of thousands of page views regarding the actual problems this class has that have gone, for the most part, unanswered and seemingly disregarded except for a brief period where Robert Hrouda seemed to take some interest, it’s probably much safer to assume they won’t be.
