I really don’t get how a Warrior or Guardian can use a gun, but the Ranged Class cant! I think that the ranged class should be able to use all the “Ranged Weapons”! Its just a bit silly as i walk around with my bow my friend who is a warrior can use swords, bows and guns! Please someone fix this! And don’t forget to post your opinion down below!

This isn’t “the ranged class”.

Rangers are not exclusively ranged, nor necessarily the best at range, according to most usages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_

Oh look, this thread again. We haven’t had this one in a long while.

Also, GW2 ranger’s theme is being close to nature and natural magic and generally being anti-technology, kind of like druids. So guns are big no no for them.

@Red Jay.2516:
Yet they have no problems using underwater rifles or other weapons who cannot be manufactured without technology like swords and daggers (and last time I checked those didn’t grow on trees). Therefore, this explanation doesn’t exactly fit either, since then rangers would only be able to use clubs (read: tree branches) as weapons.

According to the profession description we are “unparalleled archers.”

In other words, the profession description is pretty useless for translating to in-game capabilities :9.

This question pops up in a new thread every couple of weeks. So you are not alone in wanting this. The biggest problem with this, is that many people have this irrational fear that giving the Ranger a rifle will somehow completely change the profession, from a nature lover to a nature destroyer. Because rifles are a sign of everything that is unnatural, or at least that’s what the ranger bible says…

It usedto say something like jack of all trades, master of them all, deadly at any range and merly profficient with a bow.
Hell knows why they changed it, but this was during the weekend beta events before the pet change when rangers were awsome and abit op.

I guess they should have named the class “Huntsman” or “Outdoorsman” or something instead of Ranger. Apparently Ranger makes people think its a class for all ranged weapons and only ranged weapons.

i don’t immediately see how they could give the ranger a rifle without making it feel too much like the warrior’s rifle. give some examples if you have them.

personally, i wold go the other direction and ask for being able to use a staff. it would give a cool druid feeling to the ranger. it could use nature and spirit spells, and maybe a spell that changes with what pet your using, like bleeding your opponent with a spirit bird, or knocking down your opponent with a spirit bore.

Balance > Lore.

While I’m not claiming it’s currently perfectly balanced, you do not make decisions about changes which would affect balance because it makes sense in the lore.

Is there an actual reason why Rangers should get a gun, something more than “I want one”?

lol, this thread again we should make a sticky saying WE ARE NOT the ranged class. If we were, I sure as hell wouldn’t be a Ranger.

Just compare all the greatsword skills, between all the professions. That will give you a good idea of how different the same weapon can be made. I don’t think creativity is something ArenaNet lacks, they’ll figure out something cool.

I think giving the Ranger both a rifle and a staff in a “weapons update” would be perfect. That would give players the option to either be more of a ‘real life ranger’ or more of a ‘druid ranger’.
