Ranger 911
Bears/Drakes/Devourers are your friends, GS and either Bow is just fine for leveling.
Try to get 15 in WS and BM by 40 and it will be smooth sailing.
Well, rangers are not in a good place right now, so you might want to reconsider your decision ..
I went with a power/crit full zerker ranger (longbow/greatsword) while leveling .Using the worst defensive armour in the game with little or no trait points in toughness or vitality will teach you how to survive, dodge, and use tactics. This is the ‘sink or swim’ method of leveling. When you hit 80, you can drop the ‘training’ armour and start using ‘big boy’ kit.
As for pets, I always preferred ranged pets (devourers and spiders) while leveling, these worked well with the ranged play style I used.
when lvling it really doesn’t matter to much but i will agree try to keep 15 points in BM for traits, this makes life so much easyer cause u get the quickness on swap and reduced swap times which helps a lot with pets in pve, i even keep 15 in BM at 80 just for the reduced CD in swaps so i don’t have to usually ever deal with a dead pet
Rule #1. Don’t listen to the complaining of the people on the forums. Its all emotionally hyped. I have zero issuse with my ranger. I’m leveling with short bow, and whatever armor gave me the best crit and crit damage.
For pets I’ve gone with whatever sounded fun. I have used about everthing. Cougar, and bear was good for a while. I keep the bear as back up but found a white wolf that has been really fun. The cougar I’ve sacked due to some change that makes him not tank, and I dont like to kite stuff. He does great damage, but dies to fast.
I’ll have to give melee a chance i’ve been told, but so far the fast hitting SB has been a lot of fun.
I"ve got 30 points in crit/crit damge, 20 in beasts, and 15ish in power.
with my bear I can solo quite a few champions. For underwater I found an armored fish that just don’t die =)
Rangers are fun.
I like to run a BM shortbow build for leveling, i usually use the Jungle Stalker when i taking a target and my pet is handling another for faster killing, and when i need to take down a tankier (veteran, elite) mob i use the Krytan Drakehound who has a lot of CC abilities and a higher life pool.
Pretty much any Ranger Build is viable for PVE Leveling. Seriously, the class is so easy to level it’s painful. I don’t normally say people need to ‘learn to play,’ but people that can’t level a Ranger in open world PVE (non Dungeon) should probably just quit and play something else.
Just play around with your trait points and find something that suits you. Personally, I prefer the Beast Master Build, but there are several viable alternatives.
Rangers are in a decent enough place. We’re not in an OP position like some, but we’re quite solid.
The community is finally recovering from being in a negative nancy funk for a while, but still a large portion needs to l2p with what we currently have because it’s pretty darn good.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.

ok so i saw great sword and picka a bow is long bow better than short or vice verse?
Shortbow is strong in more situations than longbow.
Wilderness survival for Soften the fall is good for reducing exploration mishaps.
