Guild Wars 2

I know that there have probably been thousands of these but I really want to know the ins and outs of ranger before making one.
I love the idea of them weilding a greatswords and there has been a lot of hate on the GS. I hear that it is tanky and thats the kind of playstyle I want.
I have 30g to spare and was wondering about:
Zho’s Armour with the stats Power Toughness Healing power was worth it?
The runes are pretty bad so I might switch them out with undead runes. (or what better options could you offer?)
What greatsword would be good for ranger, I know on the trading Post that the Dawn ‘fake’ has resonable stats and is relatively cheap.
Engi has failed to peak my intrest and I dont wan ranger to become a pile of trash in my eyes.
I would enjoy a tanky build with reccomendations on accessories and such.

What pets could I find around the wvw landscape that are useful?

That sounds like Cleric’s Armor, put in Runes of Dwayna with 10 in Nature Magic you have perma Regen going.
I feel GS goes excellently with BM builds I’d recommend you go-
0/10/20/10/30
Skirmishing- Pet crit traits
Wilderness Survival- Wilderness Training, Martial Mastery
Nature Magic- Regen Trait
Beastmastery – Mighty Swap, Rending Attacks, Natural Regeneration

You could also go 0/0/30/10/30 switch pet crit for Bark Skin for more tanking.

With Cleric’s, Dwayna’s, lots of Regen you can have it up permanently. You can get lots of passive Regen from Natural Regen and Signet of the Wild. Make the other Utilities Troll Urgent, LR, QZ and Entangle.

Weapons and Trinkets you could go Berserker or more Cleric’s

GS is great in 2 areas:
1) Defensive sidearm for ranged builds
2) Defensive weapon for BM builds

(→Defensive sidearm weapon for ranged BM builds!!!)
If that’s, what you look for, go ahead, if you are looking for some sort of “GS main”, it’s a waste of time. As a main weapon, it’s way outclassed by the sword.

I’d add Hyena (1v1, so… many… knockdowns…) and whichever Drakes you find (blast finisher).
