Ranger Changes - Lost Shores Update
That’s funny Jon When can we expect the real patch notes?
umm…….where are all the massive changes? Bueller!!….Bueller!!
Um… what?
“One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills.”
Only spirits got a buff, and a minor one at that.
“Many signets, a shout or two..”
Nothing happened.
“Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.”
One skill on GS, one skill on WH, one skill on torch. The rest was for underwater where we did not need it. There are so few combo fields underwater that the update barely did anything to them anyway.
We have been more than patient; this didn’t help us at all. I have a feeling Lost Shores took up more time than anything else, which is unfortunate.
22 days since John Peters told us to wait for a big fix of the ranger… And that is all? It changes nothing at all!

Honestly, this is exactly what I expected.
well thats 14 points, wasn’t it meant to be 16?
Besides point 2 with is cosmetic I don’t use any of the the other 13 listed (rarely fight in water) so my ranger is still as broken as before the patch with dumb pets, obstructed left, right and centre and everything else rangers suffer with, I’m just surprised they just didn’t take bows away from rangers and be done with it tbh.
edit* corrected spelling
I bet the 2 missing points were backpedaled due to “risk factor”. Too dramatic for one patch.
I had such high hopes. Just check, sword MH is still bugged, so is Entangle.
i cant believe, i dont like , a lot of changes is on water skills or others not so relevants..and the ranger is one of three profession with only a few of changes….XD
the most “important” changes, the spirits now 35% o 50% with traits, and one skill of greatsword now make 40% more o damage… the end of the problems of the ranger!! the longbow dodges and all the skills and others weapons are perfect!, in the same level of damage of the others proffesions, now all the people want aranger in her group… bufff so much expectative for only a bit.
Cya
i follow love my ranger, but this proffesion is going to be the most underrated and all people are go to hate us in spvp…..

My Ranger has been shelved since launch, when I heard about this patch I thought “ooh, maybe they’ll fix all the really annoying parts about Ranger and make it interesting/viable.”
Hahaha, no.
I have never felt so let down by a patch

Did I miss something about pets now being more robust in dungeons? And I thought us eles got screwed (THE suppport trait Evasive Arcana got basically destroyed, tooltips adapted to what previously looked like bugs…), I feel bad for you guys.
Eh. I really, really didn’t want to be one of the people who was going to instantly look a gift horse in the mouth and complain about this patch. I wanted to be happy with it, I went in not expecting instant problem fixes or anything, just a decent number of bug fixes and improvements. I really don’t want to be the instant complainer.
But really? This is just… nope, I can’t be happy with this.
There are a couple good changes, added GS damage and counterattack while moving is nice and I’m thrilled that Off-Hand training is going to apply to Call of the Wild (hope that means range too and not just cooldown). Whirling Defense I barely use because I don’t like offhand axe much, but if it now actually fires projectiles on its own in combo fields thats a great change.
But there’s practically zero bugfixes unless you count incorrect descriptions as bugs, absolutely no pet improvements, no real changes to spirits (from what everyone keeps saying the spirits still have a long internal cooldown which means the increased proc chance means little on its own, and no health increase means they’ll still die like a paper lantern in a hurricane), no changes at all to signets or shouts, a bunch of underwater projectile finishers when there are almost no underwater combo fields to use them with… 3/4 of the changes are miniscule in effect at best.
Perhaps the real issue I have with this, though, is… what exactly in this patch warranted an extra month of work? It takes an extra month to decide “we should increase damage on a skill”? Or “this should be a combo finisher now”? Really? I can’t see a single change thats any more complicated than any of the other changes other professions got last month or this month, and that has all other professions getting 2x the changes between the two updates (and many professions got more changes than Ranger this month too). The whole “we needed extra time to implement the changes right” thing amounted to absolutely nothing, far as I can tell.
Maybe they’re planning big mechanics changes and even an extra month wasn’t enough, I don’t know. Maybe I just shouldn’t have looked into those words at all.
Rangers are included in this patch note finally. Aren’t you thankful? Though it would be nice if we can receive more fixes on icons and skill descriptions. That would be worth of another 30 bullet points. Would look good on Jon’s “Done List” too. Such a win-win.
I’m usually not one to complain but this patch was very very poor in terms of the changes for rangers. To add insult to injury, thieves’ Scorpion Wire ability (the wire pull) ability has its range upped to 1200. 12 kitten hundred. This will completely nullify any possibility of kiting a class that can go stealth on a whim and make WvW wall defense incredibly hard.
Considering the changes in the play environment, rangers have been overall nerfed in terms of utility in any pvp encounter even though most of our patch notes are minor buffs.
April Fools 2013 came earlier this year.
But seriously, these changes are stupid. we got shafted again while other classes got more attention. please go make rangers and play them. you’ll see that you need more than 2 people working on every class.

Have to agree with the rest of them. This is EXTREMELY disappointing. Far beyond expectations. I understand you only have 2 DEVS working on these things, but this is ridiculous at best, you had ages to go through these things, and all you perform are minor improvements for the key issues with the profession.
Furthermore the lack of correspondence between the staff and the community is a disgrace with regards to PVP balancing. Its hard to put this the nice way when anet has failed to perform promise after promise.
I’m also one not to complain on patches, but this is what they call significant ranger changes? We have less update points then almost half of the professions and from the look of it thieves are still just as powerful and have an even better pull ability now. It looks like I need to roll a thief and be done with this class.

This is quite sad. I would have just taken a buff to axe and short bow. Rangers are pretty good underwater…that is the one area no one cares about or asked to fix. T_T
Had my hopes up for this one. Booo JonPeters! Now go home and think about what you’ve done.
Bad move by Anet. Really bad.
A much more poetic punishment would be to force him to play several hours of pvp with a ranger against decent players.

lol coming from the Engi forum where they promised “30 bullet points of changes” so look forward to it which turns out to be minor bug fixes and nerfs. ANet = master of leading on the players
