I have been running full beserkers gear so far on my ranger and was gonna focus on only getting that for dungeons and fractals, but after looking at some forum posts and i’m starting to think i need something more tanky such as soldiers or valkyrie. Or maybe full beserkers with only soldiers or valkyrie rings and amulets thoughts?

Nope. Full berserkers. Even at level 50 fractals people use full berserkers. Dodging or evading protects you from 100% of damage, so there is no need to sacrifice gear for defense.

As a Ranger you don’t play on Full Berserker you use a Assasin armor and Berserk Amulets and rings and etc. that’s how you can do the most dmg on ranger .
Yeah and not useless stats like soldiers, through soldiers your fight will just take longer and you just get hurt some more times which gives you no advantage .

Full Berserker for PvE, maybe throw in some Valk armor pieces and/or Cavalier trinkets (ascended trinkets are easy to get) for fractals if you feel you need them. What level fractals are you doing?

Even with only trinkets, you can get over 55 agony resist, which at level 50 is 18% dmg per tick of agony, you can last 5 ticks. But, you could get better infusions if you wanted, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a cheaper setup. Maybe go with something like this for fractals to give you a bit more sustain, but I would be making the ascended in all zerker if it were me, for my first set anyway.

I know that my ping is nowhere good enough to be able to dodge everything all the time, so I often take some more toughness/vit gear to allow me to live through those moments. Australia is internet dark ages.

I also have an above average ping time (about 200ms) so I run full zerker armor, the zerker/valk trinkets, for weapons I use: sword is zerker, axe is assassin, lb is zerker.

Those zerker/valk + vit from asc defensive slots + the NM trait line allow you to make a mistake sometimes, also there is always the SoS as panic button.

Full zerker. No assassin (spotter, opening strike, 100 sources of fury).
Stealth, sos, protect me, blocks, evades, reflects,cc and good HP.
Thieves are jelly of you.

Zerker is your best bet. Even with a low ping adding toughness can have an adverse effect as a lot of mobs will attack you more often because of your tankiness.

I go for berserker with some assassin stuff.
High power with over 90% critical chance (with rampage as one activated) and I haven’t even got ascended gear, to be honest…
