Ranger Gears
You’ll have a field day because Ranger is so Vastly customizable , any weapon with a Dps stat in PvE works.
best overall stats for WvW and PvE if you don’t want two sets of armour would be a mix of Beserkers/Valk and some cav stats , if you want extra crit add in some Assasins (if you don’t have a lot of Skirmishing traits)
so i’d say Pick your traits and play style first then build your armour around that.
Thanks for your output zenos! Any other thoughts is very helpful
Just start a ranger and play with all weapon types. Stack power in PvE and make sure you use sword from the beginning to become proficient at it. Use the bows too, but I would use GS and Sword with either Axe or Dagger, mostly, if I were learning again. It has loads of mobility and evasion. If you like to use them, you will become great at them and they really are the key to PvP and WvW. LB is easy mode, if you can melee well, you will also be able to LB/SB well as you will already have learned positioning etc. It’s just further back. Melee is a big part of Ranger.
I would also experiment with all pets, acquiring them all is a large undertaking in itself, so play with one pet until you get another and find the best for each situation, learn how to swap and keep them alive, micromanage them etc. Also key to playing Ranger.
Experiment with builds, pets, weapon sets and playstyles until you find ones you like, then learn those. Then hit PvP.
L2P sword well, it’s our best dps weapon but you can’t just autoattack with it, it requires some learning. I would definately get a LB and GS early on as well. as Heimskarl said, learn to manage your pet well, the dps pets are still pretty much paper in dungeons and the tanky pets survive well but don’t do much damage. Drakes are a good mix of tankiness and dps.
stacking power early is good, especially if your not using a paper pet. for most of the early game they’ll get aggro. once you get to the 50’s-60’s that seems to not happen as often, then you might want to invest in some defensive stats on gear.
Great Advises Guys! Thank you very much! I guess attacking using sword is hard because it stays on the same spot
Since you can use your GS and S/D defensively, plus you have dodges and utilities like Lightning Reflexes, I would steer clear of defensive stats on armor so that you learn to use them effectively, you can trait defensively and use skills defensively, so you may as well have offensive gear stats. imo.
Hint: Turn AA off when using sword, you can get a mob to low health, use hornet’s sting and monarchs to leap to a different mob, leaving your pet to finish. Serpent’s Roll and Stalker’s Strike can be used in the same way. Also, don’t forget to use the utility skills on the GS, I see a lot of people just AA and Maul, forgetting the rest, but you can avoid huge damage with counterattack and interrupt with hilt bash, plus your pet gets the AoO.
How do you get around lack of AoE abilities tho? :/
As for gear: I have 3 main sets.
Rabid gear and trinkets for a trapper build I use in WvW
Berserker gear and trinkets for PvE
Soldier gear and berserker trinkets for WvW Zerg play.
I have a zerker GS, Sword, LB and war horn.
I have a rabid Sword, Dagger, Torch, and Axe for my reaper build.
My last is star dust, a celestial SB. Fairly cheap on the TP too!
Greetings GW2 Community,
I am interested in playing Ranger despite in all of the hate im seeing..
But i have a really easy question tho, what Weapon should i Go for PvE and PvP?
Oh and Please bundle it with stats to go too, Thank you and Have a nice day!
PvE
Open Boss PvE : Power, Vitality, Toughness ;
<Longbow / Greatsword / Sword+Warhorn or Axe>
Every other PvE (including dungeons, Fractals, Events): Zerk = Power, Precision, Ferocity;
<Longbow / Greatsword / Sword+Warhorn or Axe>
Keep in mind that PvE basically requires you to bring Spotter and Frost Spirit (traited) and a viable power weapon. The rest is optional
For PvP:
There are over 4 meta builds that I’m currently aware of, every one uses different weapons and stats.
