Ranger. Is it worth getting into?
Short answer: no.
Quite short answer: no, in pve rangers aren’t that bad, they are pretty good in pugs and chilled runs, and they are getting upped next patch. In pvp/tpvp, most condi specs are quite strong as close holder, and some 1v1 specs are powerful ( condi bunker anyone?).
They are lacking in the zerg department.
Short answer…Yes!
ABSOLUTLEY!!! It will be one of the hardest classes to ensure in WvW or PvP but once you’ve got it right it is by far the most rewarding thing in game for you
Rangers get a lot of hate but if you can be one of those rangers that impress…well dang! It’s a great thing to be one of those great rangers.
I myself play a ranger and did have a build that worked Really well…sadly when I had my 6 month break my build got nerfed so I am working on what that’s good for WvW solo and zerging. If you want to be supportive in zerging Spirits!!! They give great boons and buffs!
Yeah, i was answering no for the " Will i be let down at the end?" part, we do agree. However, spirits isn’t a solution in zerg. They get killed really easily by aoe.
Oh sorry Oxtred :P
And really? I always though they where good if you had the trait that makes spirits move Freely ?
No problem. ^^
They are good in tpvp ( and even then, meta is shifting away from those) but in zergs where massive aoe damage are thrown out, they can’t survive more than a second. Just like the pet, but that’s another story. So meh, spirit builds aren’t viable in zergs.
Good point and I can understand that it will actually help me But Yes Cbord Well worth it!
Short answer: depends on how much you like the feel of the class and how well you understand the class.
Longer answer: Rangers are fun even for endgame stuff. There are many players out there that still view them with disdain and don’t like to have them in a party, but that’s mostly from launch when most players ran around with bear-bows unsure of how to play.
In my experience I have had many groups that viewed the ranger somewhat negatively (as in not expecting much from having my ranger in the party) send me messages after an event/dungeon/wvw saying how surprised they were with the ranger.
There are some things that rangers have been severely lacking in since launch, but for the most part it’s definitely the class I enjoy the most. The updates coming soon seem to help with several issues rangers have had with their class in the past, so hopefully we can get rid of some of that negative stigma.
Overall it comes down to balancing what aspects of the class you have the most fun with and what aspects prove to be the most efficient for the situation. You most likely will not want to use a longbow in dungeons in most cases, whereas it is somewhat of an option in other parts of the game. The sword takes a bit of understanding how it works to become proficient at dodging with it, but is a lot of fun to use and is one of the rangers more effective weapons against single targets (offhand torch helps to bring in a bit of aoe; warhorn for support and blast finishers).
You says it’s the class you like the most; what is it that you like about the ranger?
If it’s the easiness of range + pet in the open world, ya, you’ll be let down because that only applies to leveling (also stop being a lazy player.) If it’s almost anything else, why would it change at level 80 content?
It’s all going to come down to if you enjoy playing it. If you enjoy the way the class is played, then you should make it. If you don’t enjoy the way the class is made and you’re hoping ANet will change it into something you like, don’t waste your time.
If still on the fence, wait until the 9th and decide after you’ve seen the patch notes. Whatever they do will likely be all you’ll see for another 6 months.
Better to think of rangers as melee fighters with some strong range options than limit yourself to range. I think you’ll be happier with the class.

If I were you, I would hold on till september patch. It’s like 3 weeks.

i try ranger atm and try all difrent builds bunker to class cannon
but it seems we cant do the damage to kill them
a bunker warrior how hard i try he just rofl ad me -.-
every hit i do around 2000 he just get it back easy
then it seems players that play thief figure out a build that totaly
kitten you come out of cloak dance around you with there sword and boom your death in seconds i see this build many times
that thief killt even 4 pll in a few seconds
so what i see is that the balance is stil not good for most classes
and that some classes are stil way to OP in pvp
but i do like the pve thing of ranger with a bear and a wolf i do very fine
as long my pets hold the argo
in dungeons i use my pets to save orthers like ress them and so on
i rely like that skills for pets
he can ress me faster if am down
he can proteck me take all condition from me and so on
best partner i have
sorry for my bad english
My first level 80 was a ranger and I have not regretted it. I still have fun on my asura, with a slingshot skin on the short bow no less. Just remember, anybody can play a ranger but only the dedicated can play a ranger well.
See you in Tyria.
Rangers are at a bad place atm, worst survability in game, and bad mobility. We have more of a turret playstyle, which the upcoming buffs will help, but it makes for no diversity in specs. And u cant play very tactical unless u master sword which very few does. Somehow anet balances us around using sword alos with the 2 extra dodges which is really bad for the class since so few can use it well. I played for 2 years and using sword still always gets me killed everytime I try it.
Since when does rangers have the worst survivability?
Since when does rangers have the worst survivability?
SInce forever, pretty mutch all other classes have some special thing that gives them defense, theifs have almost endless dodges and blind, mesmers have their pets and great healing, necros have their form warriors have their high hps and armor and regen, guardians have great blocks and healing.
etc. But ranger completely lacks that special defensive ability, sword can make a difference but its a weapon most rangers cant master, and they cant balance a class around one weapon.

Lot of breakstuns, vigor, dodging weapon abilities, block, even stealth, soft cc, hard cc, protection…
As someone who mainly does dungeons/fractals:
No, Ranger isn’t worth getting into.
You’re pigeonholed into one build, and you have to use1H Sword and Greatsword, and in rare occasions you switch one of those weapon sets with a Longbow if range is required.
1H Sword is cumbersome and imo not fun to use.
You’ll also not be very welcomed in PUGs as Rangers have a bad reputation and even if properly played other professions often perform equal or better.
If you like the class, keep playing. They’re fine in pve and small scale wvw. I think they’ll be fine in large scale after the next patch though yea not the best, but honestly it doesn’t really matter.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Ditto to this^ ….almost everyone who was ever good at the game, this was their consensus. If you don’t ever care about being good or useful to anyone else. Go ahead and keep leveling it since you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference anyway.

This.
IMO, it depends if you want to play the game the easy way or hard way. Ranger is a bit harder than others as there is no faceroll or gimmick mechanic. That doesn’t mean the class is horrible.
If you PvE, I would say go for it without hesitation. PvE is braindead easy, and for every group you get kicked from you will find one that will take you.
For PvP/WvW it really depends on your frustration tolerance level. This is because you will be target #1 (even in 20 man zergs!), just because people think Ranger = loot bag. Once you get the hang of it and learn how to evade properly, you can play amazing decoy and watch the enemy get slaughtered chasing you and not paying attention to anything else. Can also solo camps and roam very well.
