Ranger Longbow Buff!?
Anyone else notice #1 on longbow was reduced to 3/4 seconds from 1 seconds or is this a bug. If so it is way op. But hey whatever.
Try timing it, see if it’s been buffed. Previously I counted the longbow fires 24 shots in 30s. See how it compares. (Can’t do it now, at work!)
It seems to shoot faster and more shots over a time interval. If so then this is the end of the era of glass cannon in WvW. Everyone will need to stack some amount of toughness to offset that 1500 range shot.
Caught me by suprise. I was running sb+gs with omnomberry pies and piercing shots and 68% crit chance getting extra damage procs off the lifesteal then I switched back to longbow and was like wahhh? My bow is shooting faster.

Well but did you actually count it? I want numbers and results, man!
Yeah it’s about 24 shots in 30 seconds.
Tooltip fix, nothing more.
Or something like mesmer cast time reduction from GW1 where the spell casts faster but follow through results in same overall dps.

Do you not understand? I have over 5000 kills with the longbow (PvE) and over 5600 kills in WvW where I only use longbow and greatsword. It is the same. It was a tooltip update. Damage is the same, fire rate is the same.
I’m starting to think it always said 3/4 seconds anyway even though that is incorrect. The actual cast time is 1 1/4 seconds.
So it said 1 1/4 previous to this update? Why would they change it to 3/4 if it in fact not the correct time? If so, this is probably placebo effect at work.
the tool tip has all ways said 3/4.
this is a post i maid about a month ago in this thread here
well the 3/4 attack speed would be fine if it indeed was this fast. however it isn’t. the longbow speed is really 1.25 sec cast time.
a simple test is to just find a mob that is obstructed. i did it from a tower wall in EB.
start auto fire with long bow then use healing spring as a timer(30 sec cd). just count the number of shots you get off in that 30 sec. if it was .75 like stated on tool tip you should get 40 shots off. i did it a few times and every time i got 24 shots off and was just starting the 25th when timer on healing spring was up.

So this could either be a simple tool-tip bug or a very serious game-play mechanic altering bug that is gimping our LB. Has Anet ever spoken about this?

this has been brought up many times in the past and as far as I know anet hasn’t ever said anything about it. i think we have all given up on trying to get an answer about it.

They specifically said longbow is fine despite the glaring evidence that suggests otherwise but what would we know, right?

Maybe it was 3/4 the whole time. That’s some serious dishabituational schema shift thinking I saw 1 second on longbow before I played around with sb+gs for awhile. I am thinking the shortbow might be a lie. It gives the illusion of killing faster than it actually does so when you go back to longbow it seems it shoots quicker. Thus greatsword swoop and shortbow must expand the perception of the passage of time. So when I switched back to longbow and the passage of time became relatively normal it seemed my bow was shooting faster because the passage of time seemed slower because any period taken from it is smaller(equal divisions independant of time) where I the ‘temporal constant’ observer within this period percieved no change of time until it was pointed out by another observer from empirical unts. Thus the longbow in the dishabituated state seemed to shoot faster because the period which the shots occupy is smaller but I get the same number of shots per period because I am a ‘temporal constant’ observer.

Guys guys guys, we all know the rate of fire is on the longbow is going to be treated like it was on the shortbow, and fixed to correct an animation bug.

I hope this is true, I’ll have to test this when I get home, I remember I have some test results I did on my desktop of the longbows damage output when I was comparing it to SB

Yeah, that non existent animation bug that got anet a lot of grief after weeks of silence on the issue they finally admitted that they nerfed it because it promoted “1” spamming and they say that’s not fun gameplay, though they never explained why they lied in the first place. Oh well.

It’s been 3/4 since I started a ranger. Coming from and engineer who’s rifle is 3/4 too the long bow takes about twice as long to fire an attack off imo.

Anet seems to prioritize intra-class balance over inter-class balance, so while they felt the shortbow needed nerfing to make all ranger weapons equally appealing, the player base felt like an already poor PvP class was seeing its most viable weapon nerfed. That was a pretty maddening fix if you were into sPvP, with all the issues we have the last thing anyone wanted was a shortbow nerf.

I thought the December update specifically sped up our LB? At least I recall a thread in which Mr Peters said that it was getting buffed.

Saying something and doing something are two entirely different things.
John said we would be receiving significant improvements.
John did give us some very minor bug fixes, some which only partially fixed the bugs (arrow speed and pet attacks).
The most significant buff we received was that you can now walk around while blocking with greatsword’s #4. Meanwhile, the elementalist recently received a leap finisher. Yeah.

Projectile speed was marginally increased on both the shortbow and longbow, has nothing to do with attack speed. You are still able to side step the arrow. You’re still getting a lot of missed/obstructed shots.

Dps technically was not affected by the December patch. As the previous poster says, projectile speed was affected in order to help solve the issue of arrows missing their targets in PvP. The longbow still fires the same number of arrows over time, you won’t notice any difference against mobs or a dummy, for example.
