Ranger Longbow Critical?
im sitting at 65 crit chance atm(missing 1 ascended accessory). with fury i will have 85. add in banners and consumables i would have even more. once i get my Althea’s Ashes i will have 3 more crit chance. using Longbow (air / accuracy sigils) and Sword/Warhorn. something you could do is get a perception sigil which at 25 stacks gives 250 precision(12 crit chance).
say me, the power stats inflict anything in my critical damage?
example: if i have 200% of critical damage and 3k of power, i will do more damage on my criticals? or not?
Crits do 150% (with no ferocity) more damage than your regular attacks, so anything that boosts your regular attack also boosts crits.
With ranger runes and sigil of perception you can easily reach 100%+ crit chance. I’m pretty sure you get more damage from pure power than higher crit though.

what u guys think about it?
for me looks good, nice damage and with one tank in group i can play without fear.

While it’s true that points in power improve DPS more than points in precision (crit chance), crit chance actually has another effect besides increasing damage. It also modifies damage consistency.
To keep things simple, say your regular hits do 1000 damage, and your crits do 2x the damage (2000).
- At 0% crit chance, your damage is always 1000.
This is the smallest variability/most consistency possible. - At 25% crit chance, your damage is usually 1000 (75% of the time),
sometimes it is 2000 (25% of the time). - At 50% crit chance, half the time your damage is 1000, half the time it is 2000.
This is the greatest variability/least consistency. - At 75% crit chance, your damage is sometimes 1000 (25% of the time),
but is usually 2000 (75% of the time). - At 100% crit chance, your damage is always 2000.
This too is the smallest variability/most consistency possible.
Depending on what you’re trying to do, being able to consistently hit for 2000 may be more valuable than hitting for (say) 3000 half the time, 1500 half the time (2250 average). If you want consistent damage, 0% and 100% crit chance are best, 50% worst.

You shouldn’t play in range for dungeons, signet of hunt is a bad utility, frost spirit will be useless after the next patch, and there’s no tank in this game. Try sword or greatsword instead, but keep in mind that ranger viability just went down for dungeons.

So, i have 86% critical chance atm, in WvW for example and dungeons too, if warrior place one banner or i’m use Rampager as One i reach 100% critical chance, u think if i use a build with 100% of critical chance is better than use berseker build?
Critical hits, on base, do 50% more damage then regular attacks for a total of 150% damage.
86% is too much, you should aim for 80% with banner of disc and spotter on, that way you get 100% with fury. That’s about 70%, I believe?
Hey all, hello, i’m recently up to level 80 in my Ranger, and LOVE use Longbow, what i want to know is, have any build to make my Ranger reach 100% Critical Chance? Is good?
I use Longbow/Sword&Horn in WvW and also in PvE (Horn for Call of the Wild to give Fury, Might, & Speed to others and to blast finish my own a Healing Spring) and have had some success with Torch in WvW. Need to try Greatsword one of these days. My focus us Power and survivability for WvW so my Critical chance is pretty low.
Using the gw2skills.net build editor and looking at a build with all ascended Assassins and Knight’s gear, Precision infusions where possible, a Superior Sigil of Accuracy, Superior Runes of the Ranger, and maxing out the Skirmishing trait line, it looks like doing that’d would give an 87% Critical chance and around 200% Critical Damage but the build sacrifices Vitality, Toughness, and Condition Damage to get that. Don’t think that’s a good trade off for WvW, though it could work well in dungeons and PvE. I think that’s about the max without food, but as others have said, it may be too high if you expect buffs in play.
A problem with Rangers is that in the Ranger CDI discussion thread, ArenaNet said that the design goal for the Ranger was for them to do slow and steady damage rather than burst damage, so the class fights against power and Berzerker builds looking for high damage and currently works well with condition builds. I have a lot of fun playing a Power Longbow Ranger in WvW but I know it’s a sub-optimal build that works better as support than in evenly matched skirmishes with other classes. It’s also not optimal (and often unwelcome) for dungeons. Works just fine in the rest of PvE though.

My only questions are:
Have you considered using a Superior Sigil of Force (+5% damage) instead of Fire on the weapons?
Have you looked at ascended Knights trinkets to improve your Toughness instead of Condition Damage?

i’m using sigil of fire only to burst my aoe damage :S

You can effectively get AoE with the piercing arrows if you line your targets up. Does the Sigil of Force increase your damage before or after the critical modifier? If it’s before, it would add over 10% to your critical hits.
For whatever it’s worth, I have Fire & Force Sigils in my longbow, but I’m considering Accuracy, instead. Fire helps with getting the Condition Applier daily.

Try going for Sword/warhorn + Greatsword.
You mainly use greatsword for your opening strike with maul, having 200% crit chance. Also your sword AA deals more damage than the offhand axe can offer in any way. The boons you get with warhorn are worth it.
Also as some1 else said don’t go ranged. Better to stack up. And in close range LB is not good.
For traits surely take spotter. It’s one of the only team buffs left thar ranger can offer now Frost spirit kinda died.
Do yourself and the party a favor and add Spotter if you want higher crit chance.
I made this build for another thread:
It isn’t for PvE, just WvW.
80% crit with stacks, 100% with fury. This build bring tons of fury once the fight begins, so your only problem is the stack of precision.
It also brings tons of condi removal on demand, 2 breakstuns, cc, endurance, protection on evade and evades with sword.
You can change muddy terrain for Signet of Hunt if you want, but it doesn’t look like a good trade imo. In WvW you won’t be getting away of fights thanks to Signet of the Hunt. And the passive doesn’t stack with the swiftness from the horn, so kinda pointless. Muddy terrain, in the other hand, helps to make your evades a lot better by putting distance between you and melee attackers, also helps to maintain fury and get rid of condis.

You linked the wrong build, there’s no spotter in that.
Spotter being the only reason to take a ranger into dungeons above anything else, and since the op stated he wanted a pve build, I can only assume you linked the wrong build.

Axe #4 is a DPS increase when using sword AA.

a) Read his post. He was talking about 100% critical across game modes, not PVE only.
b) I said that my build is for WvW only.
So now you can see that I actually gave him an answer. You can’t expect a single build to work for everything and since we don’t know if Frost Spirit change was intentional or not I won’t even botter crafting a build for PvE.
