Ranger Patch Notes - May28
Finally much needed attention…
…to underwater combat? :P
good job.
so now .. my new WvW tactic – lure them into the water and wait for the “Ranger is too OP in water” whinging!
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)
Hahahahahahaha, aw kitten
Maguuma
Yay! Whirling defense buff!
Also, people, before you go bashing again, it was already stated that this patch is NOT a balance patch, but a bug fix patch.

There isn’t really a shortage of bugs above the water either.

I do this now when I want to troll whole groups that are chasing me.
But, with that said, I hate underwater combat.
Can someone rephrase this? “Now strikes targets at a similar range to all other melee skills.”

I can’t figure out if this is a nerf or a buff, either.

Never said there wasn’t, but you make it sound like you don’t like buffs.

Ha, underwater fixes/buffs. Now dailies will be easier.
I want to say the Whirling Defense thing is a buff, because it seems like I sit on targets to register the hits. I can’t test it right now, though.
Shortbow & quickness: nothing?
im surprised; a number of water ‘fixes’ for each class… yet no mention of underwater lick wounds?; well ill continue enjoying that for a while (oh no; triple teamed in wvw… oh look… water… god mode)
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
Most important part of the patch notes for most rangers is Settler’s jewelry dropping..
Its basically Passiflora, but you can buy them for under 2 gold a piece right now

Wouldn’t be making the longbow shoot as fast as the tooltip says be a bug fix….?
Making the auto-attack work between 1200 and 1500 range would be a fix as well.

Aquaman II… just as bad as the first one.
Oh.. and they buffed fixed warrior banners some more. Happy day for rangers everywhere.

Pets take aggro from guards now. I might as well quit my ranger and roll an easy mode thief or mesmer.
Way to go guild wars, you’ve killed the only thing dear to me.

Nice bug fixes to Eagle Eye trait. It’s interesting how many bugs this trait had on its own. It caused Point Blank Shot to have a longer cast time as well (they fixed it not too long ago).
I’m on the fense with this one. The fixes to shooting backwards is kind of a nerf. It was something that was never intended in the first place but the fix still puts the proper restriction on our combat freedom. However some fixes were pretty much buffs as well.
However, the “fixes” that bother me the most are not even listed under Ranger.
Mesmer clones will now aggro on the pet even if the ranger is out of range of them.
WvW guards will now aggro the pet.
Yet no fix to the pet allowing it to use it’s skills while on the move. I understand some skills requiring the pet to stop moving (eg. wolf’s howl or any leep) but most others should occur on the move. After all the majority of skills that players use can be done while moving. Only a few player skills require the player to stop moving to perform.
Thanks to this, an enemy player doesn’t have to move faster than the pet to avoid being hit, the player need only move at normal, forward, run speed (in combat speed) to get out of range in the time it takes the pet to attack. Only if the player is strafing or moving backward or under some form of CC (eg. Chill) can the pet hit them.
I would say that the pet hit anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 the time it is suppose to. Depending on spec, the pet’s potential damage would be anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of what we put out.
That means, depending on spec, we are basically at a constant 18.75% up to 25% loss to our dps.
Stop “fixing” things until you fixed petkittenting moving things… everything else is really … well.. not important.
Edit: h i t t i n g is going turned into kittening….
yeah… maybe you should fix that also ;-)

I always laugh when something is fixed in patch notes and people rage for ANet making things work as intended. I like seeing pets taking aggro again tbh. I kind of missed using mine as a meat shield when things get tough.

Im okay with it being fixed but it was fun. Go check out the rage on the thief forum for the sword #2 fix on shadow return.

The range correction is fine, but now it’s porting me into the ground or into objects.
What changed with the pathing?

The pathing has a set limit now when it didn’t before and going up or down hills or into the ground can account for that, some terrain isn’t flat or a hill and or hilly and now its bugged.

I’m guessing you used “Pets” and then followed it up with “hitting”. As putting a single space or additional letters isn’t enough to fool the filter.
Still funny though. It’s as if ANet is trying to cover up the issue in subtle ways. Lol.
I never knew all them shots fired backwards in water I only knew the pirahna school did, now I’m angry I didn’t take advantage of this before, pretty dumb of me I didn’t test this really since I knew the piranhas did >.<
Whelp, WD was buffed, that’s always a good thing =D
As for the rephrasing of, " Whirling Defense skill: •Now strikes targets at a similar range to all other melee skills." it essentially means you don’t need to literally be ontop of the enemy to hit them with the skill now, IE range was buffed.

Offhand Training doesn’t seem to increase the hit range of WD as indicated, but I haven’t tried to see if the reflect range is increased.
I don’t believe Off-Hand Training ever increased the range of Whirling Defense. Only Crippling Talon, Path of Scars, Throw Torch, Hunter’s Call, and now the reflected projectiles of Whirling Defense.

I misread the patch notes, and deleted the post within a minute which you managed to reply to. :/
Too bad it only increases the reflect range, it would have been nice buff to hit targets outside normal melee range since we can’t move.
[Whirling Defense] is HUGE when using off hand training. This is a nice fix.
Shortbow & quickness: nothing?
I’ll be really happy if they fix that bug.

It also makes Bonfire massive. Almost comparable to the traited traps in radius.
