Ranger... Please put your pet to passive
NEVER KILL the two on the left side (the first two chanters).
—Correction Right side (side where we enter)
According to your post I’m not bad ranger. Thanks
Just 1 thing: pets don’t aggro mobs until you do. You can even make pet run though enemy and it won’t attack pet unless you get in aggro range.
Also, on last boss in grawl shaman it’s good to use fast attacking pets, or pets with double strikes (birds, devouers) to get shield down faster.
The title leads one to believe this is a campaign to put pets on permanent passive to show ANet that we do not tolerate…this. And instead I find an ex-ranger turned other profession come to complain about rangers…
[…]also want the ‘BAD’ rangers to know what they are doing to damage the reputation of Rangers.
You’re not exactly helping by pointing the finger on “bad” rangers
At that time I thought ‘what are these guys talking about. I ain’t a bad ranger’<<<[typical BAD RANGER thoughts]
Good to know where you stand
-After playing as Guardian/Messmer for fractals, DPSing in melee range is the key for harpy part. BUT most rangers just shoot from range and sometimes they get into invulnerability and pretend they are attacking.
-Slacking attitude: spamming auto attack agroing every harpy by changing targets within the range which causes crazy knock back festival.
How about staff/scepter+shield guradians? rifle warriors? This isn’t a ranger specific problem…
-Stupid melee pets standing doing nothing
And ranged pets would do ranged damaged and…what was it you wrote just above?
Also melee pets follow into melee if the ranger does.
-When moving batteries before “Old Tom” rangers forget to put pets away and agro Old tom
Do you not follow the patch notes?
-Stair with electronic waves coming down: Please put your pet away. PLEASE. Pets also gets exploded when it touches it
How does the pet getting blown up cause any trouble for the rest of the team?
-When trying to break the two arm chains, most people use tunnel or corridor strategies (whatever its called). One of the most important thing is to NEVER KILL the two on the left side (the first two chanters). But sadly.. yes rangers with their pets “not in passive” and forget about the pet will eventually kill it and make it spawn more chanters on the other side, and sometimes (I don’t truly understand why this is happening) the chanters on pets seems to follow the pet to the other side forcing us to kill chanters from the right side.
Please put your pets into Passive
I’ve seen/heard about stupid players killing all regardless of profession…However, this is the only somewhat valid point in your rant, pet does need to be on passive here.
I would like to write more things but getting tired and pointless to write small things.
Please don’t embarrass yourself or rangers any more…
When I’m not doing fractals I always play with my ranger(getting better now:))
so don’t think me as a ranger hater.
Take your ranger to fotm…Not doing so will just propage the vision that rangers have no place in fotm…if ranger is your favourite profession bring it to anything!
If you want to play with ranger in a dungeon please try to understand your role
(Guess this applies for all classes… )
This is not on you…ANet made and advertised ranger as a jack-of-all-trades profession, which is basically fancy talk for we have no role and can do a little of everything…but not excell at it.

It used to be an exact quote from the ranger description page on this very site.
It appears that they’ve since updated the page.

And then midway through development, Isiah said that they were refocusing that specialization to ranged Damage… Which would have been great except that: 1: The Distance advantage over other classes is unnoticeable in many cases. 2: nearly all dungeons are very claustrophobic leaving no option for longer ranged fighting. 3: Melee DPS > Ranged when you can just stack the mobs up (& even some bosses) around a column & then glitch their A.I.
And even then… it was apparent as soon as Beta started that they were wrong anyway when Rifle & LB warriors were making rangers look bad on ranged damage but everyone else was crying that Greatsword Rangers did too much damage which got that only other hope nerfed instantly.
Anet has no stated “Vision” for the Ranger anymore. They might have started off with one involving the Pet, but the bugs they were having with keeping the A.I. responsive (and all the other bugs) just demolished any long term confidence in pets being a consistent bridging point between Theory and Execution.
I just did FOTM 48 with two rangers and a thief the other day. Our warrior had 20 AR. We finished in an hour. I almost always have my pet on active mode and am often callin it back. You have to always be aware of the pet, no joke.
My pets don’t really die. Maybe once or twice due to a mistake in an entire fractal and I always have my other drake on reserve. That’s because of the build I use: 0/10/30/0/30 with bark skin , agility training, and natural healing. Hey, I can solo all the mobs up to and then defeat the crusher solo. It must not be that bad. :p
