Ranger Role in WvW: Yak Slappers
You can also send your pet into a camp to kill the yak ’cause the other NPCs will ignore the pet. xD

Yak standing in camp doesn’t give points. Only the ones on the way do.

Oh. .__.
Good to know!

Just take the whole stinkin camp. Can get it done solo now in less than 2 minutes.

Except that you can obtain MORE points by NOT taking the camp and farming yaks. Killing 4 yaks that have left an enemy camp nets you more than twice as many points as flipping the camp and holding it for the tick.
So, it seems not to take a camp unless you need the supplies. Better to deny the enemy supply by taking yaks (unless of course they need to go gather supplies to repair, etc).
Yep, my bad. After reading the original post again I realized it was about how to get the most XP.
Since I have zero interest in wxp..karma…xp etc, I will just take the camp instead and hope they only send a couple of people to retake it

I really like that idea. I used to solo flip and farm guys trying to get it back. But as as server benefit your approach is better. If you ever go up against Dragonbrand look for my ranger Gear Head.
So I wonder if multiple server defenders attack the yak do both servers get points or only the one with killing blow. A Condition build would def help secure your points if its the killing blow.

No, you misread it again. Killing dollies gives points to the server. Farming them is better than flipping camp if you go for points.

The “etc” covered all other types of XP..points or whatever else keeps tally of some kind.
I have zero interest in any of that because frankly, it doesn’t mean squat. I’m looking for the fight…that maybe I can win once in a while.
Thieves are much more effective at this tbh. With my unlimited stealth build I can easily sneak past enemies, whether its a zerg or single player. And I can take a dolyak down in about 6sec.
Rangers would draw attention to themselves. First 1 person sees, then 2, then 3, etc. Remember you’re close to the enemies base.

Yep. A decent, determined thief is pretty much impossible to stop as a yak slapper. Ranger’s are good at it, but I wouldn’t say they’re the go-to class for it.
As far as whether to flip a camp or just kill yaks, I didn’t know about the difference in the points for one v. the other, but then, now that I think about it, there’s a whole list of questions you could ask yourself about the best tactic for the moment beyond just which one directly gives the most points.
Yup. Thieves are better simply because a good one can reset a fight/escape. Perhaps the “stealth” traps will change this. Certainly if you can counter the stealth factor, then ranger>thief.
Agree about the thief. Both kill the yaks quickly and with ease. The big thing though is when I hear in world chat … Ranger killing Yaks at ____ …I head over to the area. If I hear thief killing Yaks I don’t even bother anymore cause I know even if I find him…good chance I will die…and even if I am winning, he will just vanish. Waste of time.
Something no one seemed to bring up – yeah, you may net more points by farming yaks, but by taking the camp you’re DENYING the other server points. Sometimes that’s more important.
