Ranger SB Nerf: Not 40 milliseconds

Be nice to get an official response on this. If this stays in play, then I’m retiring my Ranger. Warriors were already better at ranged combat than Rangers were before this change, this is just the nail in the coffin.

Can we get an official response. Not to be dramatic but if this change (the one in play, not the 40 milliseconds reported) is intended, then I can get to rerolling right away. SB was the only good thing about playing a ranger (and war horn offhands). Our Great Sword does pitifull damage, our longbow is ‘meh’, and our melee is generally lacking. Our Pets are at best damage sponges for PvE, they miss most of their attacks in PvP given how long the wide up animation on their attacks are.
If SB speed was nearly halved, then I can move on to the OP warrior like everyone else in my guild is doing. They out damage rangers at ranged combat, out support and certainly out melee damage us.
Will be rerolling warrior later today unless there’s a patch.
Can we at least get a “we are looking into it?”
I would say all SB ranger would like to hear from Anet whether is “nerf” is intended.
Nerfing a class that need a actual boost is really way pass retarted .
Still love the game but give us a “confirmation” on this SB “nerf” issue so the ranger community can decide to stay with the class or move on to another class.

no no no.. SB needed a nerf.. this is a great fix to a broken/bug auto that did a TON more auto dps then other stuff in the game… Again, auto attack
Rifle Auto Attack now does more damage than it. Compare it on the Wiki. Unless SB attacks about 40% faster (which it doesnt) then Rifle decisively wins. Rifle projectiles are harder to avoid by side stepping, it applies a 6 second bleed WITHOUT positioning requirements (SB applies a 3 second bleed with positioning requirements).
Good thing Rangers are good at ranged eh? We wont even bring up head shot.

Never try to make a ranger player use more than one button.
Other SB skills do not generate damage. They are positioning and control powers. All of the damage from SB steams from its auto attack. If you want to nerf it, rebalance the entire weapon.
Its also the ONLY ranged weapon we have that even compares to Warrior Ranged dps. According to our class description, we ‘excel’ at ranged combat, which is laughable. Warrior Rifle is insane.
Shortbow auto was super strong though, I’m not surprised.
They could atleast improve the poison shot to add more dmg back though, having all your dmg on your auto is silly, they need to make dealing dmg more interesting and require more thought, kinda boring as it is.

Go with the thief. I switched to thief from the necromancer and it is very satisfying. It also has a lot more versatility and complexity than people give it credit for. Pistol Whip spammers are severely hampering their potential.

Obviously you never played a ranger before and we use more than 1 button to be truly effective in pvp or pve.
The SB “nerf” is a very disheartening blow to the SB ranger community. So kindly pls restrain yourself from posting sarcastic remarks.

You can make a case that SB + QZ was imbalanced or even just plain SB auto however given how much many aspects of the profession are lacking it was the thing that balanced it out.
I play a ranger main and haven’t noticed any difference at all. But all I do is log in to LA for 5 minutes every few days now. Game is a trainwreck sigh.
I’d rather have quickness skills be removed than shortbow attack speed be nerfed. I didn’t rely on quickness before and now it’s almost necessary to even win a 1v1.

Warrior Rifle Auto Attack is handily beating the crap out of our new SB. Honestly even before this change, Warrior Rifle Auto attack was sick (6 second bleeds WITHOUT the need to flank the enemy). Only reason I could justify that was we shot about twice as fast. That is no where near the case right now.

Lots of rangers have posted this is MOST noticeable when you compare SB auto spam with Quickening Zephyr post and pre changes. Not sure if that will help.
Please don’t nerf the only viable ranger weapon! Bleed stacking with qz is essential and was fine in live. SB was very nicely balanced…why are u messing with stuff that aint broke?
Fix spirits and rework the GS if you need some ideas.

Sadly this. Our Great Sword is terrible. Our Sword does meak damage. Our Longbow is seldom useful outside of WvW. Our Pets miss about half their attacks due to very slow animations (im especially fond of my cats rending pounce which has like a 4 second wind up.
I dont think other classes can say this, but the only thing we have really solid is SB and our offhand warhorn. I dont see almost any rangers without these weapons.
Knote, shortbow auto attack was not super strong, longbow auto attack was just super weak, so it seemed as if shortbow was powerful. A warrior or guardian for example does far more damage to 5 monsters at once than a shortbow can do to 1 monster.
The longbow cannot be used at all for anything but WvW aoe on skill #5, it’s not even viable for solo pve content, especially at higher levels, since you and your pet will die long before the longbow ever kills anything, even on downleveled content (1-15 as lvl70) it will kill monsters extremely slow.

On power builds the damage nerf is far greater than just 15%.. it’s over 35% there.. if you include quickening zephyr, a 50% damage nerf. Crossfire during quickening zephyr is now about as fast as normal crossfire before the patch, as shown as well in the videos of Ituhata. In 4 seconds you get in 12 arrows or so instead of 25.
Shortbow was not very strong before this patch, it did not do a lot of damage compared to other professions, be it with a condition or with a power build, but after the patch now it is not usable at all, even against trash monsters in solo pve.. and forget doing your personal story quests or pvp.
Even if it is repaired to be 40ms slower as the patch note says, that is still a notable downgrade that you will feel in pvp. I don’t understand how anet can call this an animation fix when they slow down the fire rate of the ranger’s only damage source.

I just double checked my numbers, we definitely got about a 15% nerf with our bleeds, but over 30% with power/precision.
Zsymon. Please check this video. Go into it 3min and 40 seconds. It’s SLOWED down so you can see the number of shots. there are 16 total shots with quickening zephyr.
We did NOT get 25 before. 16 max. There’s a definite bug now with QZ and shortbow or an overall nerf to shortbow in general but please don’t spread misinformation. This only hurts us.
Sorry Kildari, I will trust my own numbers first, I’m also not the only one that counted far more than 16 arrows, read back a few posts. I get in only half the amount of arrows with QZ than I did before the patch.
The Ranger just keeps getting hit with nerfs and I just don’t see where it was ever overpowered across the board to begin with. None of the problems the profession has are getting addressed either, so we continue to get nerfed into uselessness.

Zsymon I just proved it through a video posted a week ago that there were a total of 16 arrows throughout the course of QZ. IN A SLOWED DOWN VIDEO. If you don’t believe actual proof then I dont know what to tell you.
This “patch” seems like a very lazy way to deal with a bug that backfired badly. Does anyone else feel the same way? Anyway, that’s just my opinion.

Short bow animation fired two arrows per second, QZ doubles the rate of fire thus 4 per second, it lasts 4 seconds…16 arrows sounds right. Using the other abilities used to stop animation, I think that is what they were trying to get rid of, to promote players to use other abilities rather than rely so heavily on auto shot and QZ
I do agree though that from Beta we have been nerfed pretty badly..spirits are too low in HP and the trait to move them is too high..needs to be a 10 at most imo, and greatsword needs a bit more dmg, I dont think its useless..but a bit more would be good.

Funny thing is that I rolled a Mesmer just a few days ago.. lvl 40 atm, I feel a bit miffed ;p

I have all the classes rolled though so it’s easy for me to stick with what is fun. I just pray anet leaves in the other things I enjoy.
