Ranger Staff Idea

I have no idea if the numbers are legit but I do like the theme and general ideas on abilities.
I kind of imagined a staff ranger having a combination of 300-600 range skills that go between aoe melee and slightly ranged utility.
Looks very cool. I like the ideas you have about summoning destroyable trees/vines.. quite interesting.

i normally don´t write on the forums, but now i just have too. Two Thiefs ganked about 20 ppl in the EB JP. Nobody could kill them. Perma stealth and insane damage. Both were s/p.
Can we pls see a fix for that? I really don´t mind if i get ganked once in a while, but this is going on for 2 hours now. They just won´t stop.
I managed to survive about 3 min alone against them but in the end i just couldn´t handle the damage.

I want staff and hammer so bad! When we do get new weapons, I really want some that have an optimal damage rotation like some warrior sets so we can stop auto attacking all the time.
Not the I don’t like your ideas, but here’s what I would like to see.
Staff 1:
AoE come attack, much like guardian staff 1. However, it will do less damage, but it will apply 1sec of cripple to 5 players.
Staff: 2
Some sort of mobility skill, either a leap or teleport. 900 range.
Staff 3:
Create a water field that heals allies not with regen tho, just a flat heal. Perhaps use the same animation as the theif healing tree that they steal from rangers.
Staff 4:
Create Muddy Terrain at your feet, will also clear 1 condition every second for you and allies. (Maybe take out immobilize from the muddy terrain.)
Staff 5:
Create a ground casted ring of thorns, same concept as guardian ring of warding. Foes can’t pass unless they have stability.

I would love to see a weapon around this range, not quite melee but not ranged would suit the ranger nicely and fill in it’s current gaps. I also really want to go in dungeons and groups and actually be able to support my allies. +1

Staff 1:
Whack,
deals damage similar to great sword 1, but in a larger aoe around ranger
Thwack,
similar to whack
Whirl,
another whack with a whirl finisher.
Staff 2:
pole-vault,
use your staff to pole-vault at your opponent, knocking them down and moving behind them.
Staff 3:
Thorn Bush,
Create a thorn bush in an area around you. the bush cripples and torments enemies that walk in it.
Staff 4:
Uproot,
bring up roots in a line in-front of you, briefly immobilizing enemies.
Staff 5:
Oakheart’s anger,
a spirit oakheart appears above your head(similar to the bear in maul) and then you both pound the area infront of you, knocking down opponents and is a blast finisher.

I’m not sure how viable the idea is in practice, but I find the imagery of Animal Lacrosse hilarious.

Would love staff/druidic stuff, but I don’t think that will happen since the Ranger in this world is like 90% martial and only 10% magic.
I would love to have staff, but there are some good reasons why this is never going to happen:
1) Anet doesnt implement new weapons, they have enough work for balancing and fixing the old ones.
New weapons require new traits which requires even more balancing.
2) Ranger already has a pretty good weaponchoice, there is no real need to add a second one
Anyways, thats how I would love staff:
1)
3 Attack chain
1: Swipe (1/4)
2: Stab (1/4), Vulnerability (3stacks) for 1 second
3: Whirl (2/4) hit enemies surrounding you twice.
2) Windslash: A fast overhead slash, producing a cutting windblow. 600 Range, straight line. You and your pet gain swiftness for 5 sec.
3) Slam, 700 Range
The Ranger leaps towards the target area, slamming the ground in a 400 Range area.
Applies cripple(2sec) and daze(1sec)
4) Defensive strike
The ranger hits all enemies around him, blocking attacks and reflecting projectiles (1sek)
5) whatever

Your Staff #5 doesn’t seem too much different from the Longbow, except it adds the immobilize. I like the control possibilities it has, and that it would force players to stop and kill the thorns before they proceed. (I could see the possibilities in WvW, but in PvP, it might be way too overpowered in the form it is right now.)

The druid staff goes better with Ranger though. Melee staff would be perfect for Thief (in fact Robin Hood was the prince of thieves…) that is closer to martial arts, being a derivate of GW1 Assassin.
I like the nature magic staff theme, I’ve always said that the professions in game were enough to cover most possible archetypes, and my favorite example was always Ranger with staff, with already a trait line called nature magic, spirits of nature and utility spells calling on nature forces to summon springs and lightning and an animal themed profession mechanic, so we don’t need a Druid profession because the Ranger with a Staff can be one.
I have no idea about the numbers either but the idea seems interesting!
