Ranger Trap Trait Points
Trapper’s Expertise, Adept tier, Skirmishing.

So, out of (15) Minor and (45) Major assignable traits… there is only (1) that pertains to traps?
Only need one, all functionality you can have with them is improved by the one trait.

Why would there be more than 1?
There is only 1 trait for shouts, 1 for signets, 1 for spirits and 1 for survival skills.
There is also 1 for longbow/harpoon, 1 for sword, 1 for shortbow, 1 for torch/dagger, 1 for warhorn, 1 for greatsword/spear and 1 for axe.
What makes traps special?
Table Warfare Miniatures - Armatures, Custom Miniatures, Moulds etc.

They are still over powered. Just think, you now have more trait points to use elsewhere. Seriously, it is fine. Seriously, they are still over powered. At least in WvW.

No to both. Well, they do wreck ambient creatures which P.E.T.A. doesn’t approve of nor condone. But solo or small parties they are, in my opinion, over powered and offer a lot of mobility and engagement opportunities. You don’t have to agree by any means but having run full zerker in WvW and then trapper with runes my personal survivability has increased ten fold.
Then factor in some of my own personal challenging fights with other classes, Mesmer and Elementals come to mind, the make a difference. Three traps or four with healing spring. Or go healing spring with two other traps and sun spirit.
I don’t know, to me they seem a bit OP. Don’t judge me!
Edit: I also ran trapper runes pre-patch when you could toss them anywhere. While I didn’t like the change at first I think they are 10x better now. It actually makes you think a bit more when you fight or before you engage. Lots of strategic places to drop them and reset the fight only to have them run over them…provided you remember where you placed them or their timers didn’t kick in

+1. Although I’ve only recently picked up ranger (played guard, nec, thief), I can already see how great traps are for low CD high dps and point control in conquest PvP.

I don’t want to argue for the sake of it, but OP is not subjective at all. Something is either clearly far better than other options or it is not and traps are not, mainly due to trap builds lack of utility because running 3 traps means you have no utility skills or stunbreaks and your pet is gonna die real fast due to Empathic Bond.

No argument – we can’t really. It is my opinion therefore neither is right or wrong. However, I need to clarify something since you asked if they are in the PvP meta. No, they are not. But then again did I say they are or did I preference my statement by “WvW”?

All I am saying is that if they were powerful skills, they would be seen in the PvP Meta because of its very nature. If they are not popular in PvP by themselves, they cannot be OP, if they need to be combined with trapper runes in WvW to be OP, that is not the fault of the skill, but the rune. But even there, Trapper Ranger is not a particularly popular build.
Traps are perfectly viable for fun PvP builds, but they (trap builds) are hardly OP in any mode, especially PvP.
I really like traps and I want to have a good trap build. But the loss of stunbreaks and good condi removal are such a hindrance. I have said it a bunch of times, but traps need to be made into a kit. Then we would go straight into the PvP meta.
About OP Trapper ranger.
To be competitive, it have to use build that have NO stunbrakes and NO OnUse conditionCleans. Only that way it will perform in pair with other classes, witch can take Stunbrakes on every button, more interrupts and anyway do same or better damage in pvp.

There is only one trait that is useful only to traps, but there are multiple traits useful to traps.

- Poison Master
- Light on your feet
- Most Dangerous game
- Refined Toxin
