Nemata Sapshield – Dragonhunter
Lillian Estre – Tempest
This is somewhat of a suggestion, so this may be in the wrong forum but oh well.
I’ve used ranger war horn for quite some time now, and ever since I started using it, expected the ability “Hunter’s Call” to apply some sort of crippling condition. I mean, if someone had birds pecking at their face, I’m sure they would be stunned or at least blinded.
In short, I think “Hunter’s Call” should apply some sort of condition, any of the following would work:
I wouldn’t mind a damage decrease for balance, just really want one of these conditions to be applied. Any thoughts?
I think in terms of weapon viability, the warhorn is already arguably the best and most widely used Ranger offhand weapon. Both Hunter’s Call and Call of the Pack are excellent skills we really can’t complain about. Your suggestion makes sense but its really just a question of flavor. I think offhand Axe needs some attention.
A Blind on Hunters Call would be pretty dang good.
I like the way warhorn is now but IMO ANET would probably increase the cooldown of Hunters Call if they added a blind as part of their attempt to “Keep things balanced”, but a blind would be great.
I think the horn is fine really, as is the torch and also the dagger, which I use defensively but also it has fairly good condition damage, not torch level but still good. Off hand axe really needs some looking at, #5 is great but #4 is just useless.

This. Dagger, horn, and torch are all great, I have trouble picking one sometimes. I feel like Torch does the most damage, Dagger is the best for PVP (snare people with cripple, keep perma poison on to reduce healing effectiveness), and Warhorn is a mix of utility and good damage (and in my eyes, works even better with axe, at least compared to sword).
Offhand axe does definitely need looking at. Thing is, 5 is great, especially paired with sword, it provides a way to inflict a lot of vunerability, especially paired with opening strike. However, 4 just doesn’t make any sense. At melee range, it’s silly, and doesn’t do enough damage. At range, it’s alright, but you’re not using 5 to it’s full effectiveness if you’re just using it to reflect.
Maybe make 4 do different things at different ranges?
I’d be happier if they address the whole if you lose line of sight that the birds start to be obscured even if the skill start find. that and if you are blinded the whole skill will miss not just the first hit.
Off topic Whirling Defense should allow for movement.
If axe 4 was some kind of interrupt… yeah, I think a lot of people could find room for off-hand axe. The mere existence of Mesmer focus (since their 5 is basically the same thing, their 4 is a godlike multi-target pull/swiftness/cripple) demonstrates that Ranger off-hand axe is a bit lame.
Just puttin it out there… all existing Ranger interrupts are on two-handed weapons. Maybe a reflect trait thrown in there too, mindful of Mesmer focus…
Axe offhand is easily the worst weapon we have.
I use to think it was alright, but man.. no longer..
Wasn’t that chopsomething guy destroying everything with axe offhand?
On a serious note, a blind on hunter’s call would be awesome.

Torch works very well in condition based builds. Warhorn is better with power based builds. I’m not a fan of the dagger tbh, but it’s not bad, mainly for the cripple and the extra evade. You can combine the torch with a sword or an axe, both setups work just fine. The only weapon a ranger must always have atm is the 1h sword, so if you combine the torch with an axe, you should use sword/dagger as secondary set.
