Ranger being annoying in WvW
Oh look a longbow ranger; I better run in a straight line.

“If they run, they will die tired.”
Best part of the video – 9k maul out of stealth with SOTH, such a wounderful rotaion.
Oh that 9K maul is beautiful
You know one thing the LB change really helped us on in WvW – defending from the keep walls.
There is usually a glass ele or necro dropping aoe on the wall. I’ll position myself, get my healing going, jungle spider F2, QZ+RF and then I will snipe them dead and terminate their aoe. If they are paying attention, they can peel off but usually their is enough punch, plus the imob to down them.

Yes, the patch finally allowed us to be in line with the other WvW classes, we can finally burst down like the thief/warrior does.

How are you finding things like retal? I run a glass build and run in a mid sized guild group. We look for similar sized fights around the map and I’m having trouble with taking a reasonable chunk of damage purely from retaliation. Any tips? Anything I’m overlooking that could help?

I also run with a mid sized guild, my personal method is to activate troll unguent right before i try to burst down a reta taget or land a barrage on a group so i can heal most of the damage i will take, anyway you can use the proctection proc when dodge after landing a barrage so you can hold a bit more damage.

I might have to switch my heals then, right now I’m running Spring so the group can blast it, if we’ve got enough Ele’s I’ll see if I can change it. Thanks.
Also, any links to the build?

Btw, my style in WvW is as a ganker/Roamer/scout so you should pick my build and troll unguent just if you plan to stay out of the zerg.
I’m curious why you choose Eagle Eye over Piercing Arrows it seems like when i don’t run PA alot of my shots get body blocked by clones, minions, and pets. Also do you think it would be worth it to use a Bloodlust sigil on GS instead of air or fire?
I find running Piercing arrows , you can’t be too sure if the Zerg is packing Retal or Reflects and running Piercing arrow Massively increases the risks of getting Reflected shots and Retal damage in 5-10x extra from the normal amount , if RF and Barrage is combined while using Rf with Piecing arrows , troll ugent gets overpowered even Hs with Natures bounty on a small amount of Healing power gets out dpsed away by Retal damage.
Piecing arrows is good for small roaming groups but too risky for zerg use, but you can always swap if you find the zerg in question don’t pack retal or many reflects.
Eagle eye is handy because of the Extra Range and 5% damage, keeps you out of harms way but more Prone to Suprise Stabby stabby:p

Eagle eye is allowing you to get very nice positioning and in the same time “Long range shot” will now benefint of 500 more range for that big damage over 1000+ range, you just have to play a bit without piercing arrow you will get used to.
About the sigils, i preffer Air/fire for some spike damage, but you can easly replace Fire with Bloodlust, personally i don`t like to use stack based stats wich go off on death/down. Keep in mind that my spec is a Ganking spec in WvW/Assasin in PvP, i run the exactly same in both of them.

Fighting from walls I’m pretty selective on targets. I tend to find those far enough out from retail coverage by clicking on them and looking for their buffs. Also, I typically test shot (LB#1) when a large group is attacking. If retail spikes I can wait a few seconds until it falls off then lay on QZ+RF. Remember you can “break target” to stop shooting and you can dodge roll your own RF. Finally, as Kaybosh said, TU is a nice buffer that helps you press through.
Regarding Piercing Arrows, if you play disciplined enough and you are patient, you can run it when fighting against zergs/large groups. You just have to be mindful of when their buffs fall off whether they are stripped or expire.
One of the reason I like playing Ranger. We can better survey the battle from a distance and figure out where we want to add pressure.
See you in Tyria.
