I have been working on my ranger ascended set… I have noticed my toughness is approaching 3k… but my power is down to 13-14k… I have been admittedly boosting my condition damage… especially bleeding (like to see them bleed… grin… and they remember me… ). As a ranger, I have My Ascended bow… am about to make the sword… and am looking at the off-hand… been using a axe, but want input on the whole setup and if axe is really best. Ascended weapons are a significant investment and I don’t want to make a bad choice. My biggest issues are when the opponent closes on me… which is what I want the second set for.

Well, maybe the offhand Torch can help you out here? It has a nice fire field that you can put down, which will keep your opponent at bay.. Also, since you already have a Shortbow and have boosted your condition damage, then the Torch (with the Burning that it applies) will have best results, I think..

Shortbow + Sword/Torch feels like the good old Spirit Ranger that was sooo common months ago in PvP, actually..

I have a longbow is Zojja’s… my shortbow is mistforged… and i haven’t found it useful… maybe this is all a learning curve thing… soon as i get some laurels (this new system will eventually yeild enough… but not at the rate i would like) I will forge Biegrath’s sword (my armor is all Biegraths… ).

Well, a longbow isn’t that heavy on condition appliance (you have vulnerability and (if traited) bleeds on crit), so I’m not entirely certain that the boost in condi damage yields the best results with that weapon. A longbow is a nice power weapon, not that much condition..
(a shortbow is condition heavy: 1 bleeds, 2 poisons, 4 cripples, 5 dazes)

Also, the ranger sword has some natural evades. So should the opponent get close to you, the odds that he/she will be hitting you full are very small..

“Experiment at will” I’d say! There are some nice combinations possible without going too much glass or tank.

It would be helpful if you could post what you have or what you are going for with a build editor

I’ll snapshot the bow when I get home… I added two offensive condition infusions and have additional 20% bleeding signal (is signal correct) the other is a +5% power… I hope i didn’t add the wrong infusions… they are… costly to make…

Power weapons should be focusing on power. That’s not to say you can’t run conditions in your build. In a power build I consider it free dmg aswell as a cover for immobilize/cripple/chill and whatnot. 5-10 stacks of bleed is still going to hurt if not cleansed.

That said, for offhand with sword main you really could go with any of them.

Warhorn gives some good buffs and the hawk skill tics for like 17 times so can be a good bleeder. If you do continue with bleeder route I’d recommend entangle (you probably got this already) and Madking runes. The runes will cast the hawk skill on 3 targets within 900 range and tic just as much as the warhorn skill. Also the runeset boasts +45% bleed duration.

Offhand Axe is decent and whirling skill reflects and can too cause lots of bleed stacks. I’m just not sure anyone is stupid enough to stand in it for 5sec.

Dagger is more of a 1v1 kinda weapon. Cripple poison MOAR bleed and a good evade.

Torch will simply give you access to another condition, fire. It really doesnt do much else but you can use sword to leap through bonfire for fiery aura. Well that gives more burning too but it can lead to more might stacks. No defensive on this weapon.
