We will have to see as glass ranger has a few new mechanics thanks to hot to deal with thief, namely Celestial Shadow, an on demand smoke field, and now the new PM.

Taunt on Protect Me is a nerf. The pet is already taking all the damage from the Ranger, so there is no need to get the pet focused down even more. Maybe the person you attack is someone else and now he is also helping with killing the pet because of the taunt.

You are way off the picture.
Taunt prevents the target from using any abilities except stun-breakers.
It also reduced the attack speed of affected enemy.
Which means it reduces the damage the pet takes by a huge lot.

I don’t know where your opinion comes from but it’s needlessly salty and totally incorrect. Taunt is 30 times more useful than the former damage transfer that lasted for a second and half and you died afterwards anyway.
If you want the former mechanic, take SoS.

If you are so concerned about the pet’s HP instead of yours and you still haven’t realized that Protect Me is currently a death penalty in a blink of an eye than you are playing a wrong game.
Same goes if you use Protect Me for PvE.

Looks like you were still writing your reply while I had already deleted it. I simply misread the text. I thought it said it would taunt the person that is attacked by the Ranger, rather than the one that is attacking the Ranger.

Taunt is a forced target switch as much as stealth is a forced target drop. Forcing target switch to the pet could be terrible for Protect Me, but in this case I don’t think it matters. At least, if it’s not bugged on release.

You can’t compare a hit for 8K form a thief’s backstab against Bristleback that has a 3,5 second cast time while adding a pet swap + Smoke Assault that has another 2 second cast time.
It is an increase in DPS, but it doesn’t tear your HP out of nowhere in a split of second.

Burst is an attack or series of attacks made to hit simultaneously resulting in high damage dealt in the least time possible.
Spike is a combination of attacks that makes your DPS go higher than average for a limited amount of time.

With all due respect… You can’t consider a combo that takes 5 seconds to execute to be a burst, can you …

Mesmer and thieves are paper. They need to burst and get out or die. And mesmer’s burst is most of the time pretty easy to avoid, when you know what to look for.
Thieves had it pretty bad in the last Meta – worst than us. Nice for them they are getting something, even if it’s not really what I’d call on point.
Can’t compare oranges and apples. They are fruit, but that’s it…
We are way more durable when focused than the two classes you cited…

I used to be sad with the state of ranger. Now we have many working options. Might not be best, but we are not bottom of the barrel anymore either.
LoS, terrain bugs, pretty much all classes suffer from it one way or the other. Rangers have been somewhat upped, even if pet are still problematic. I am not feeling like a half something (wannabe war, wannabe thief, wannabe whatever). I am feeling like a ranger – one that roams the lands to steadily bring down foes, with the tools to keep foes away if I want, and also with the tools to defend myself from close if I want.

Do we have weapons that could use some love? Yes. Pretty much all classes do.
Do we have no working weapons and build, like we used to? No, We have working options.
Always look on the bright side of life!
Given the fact that there is not gonna be only damages that count for events participation, it’s pretty good.
With each balance iterations, we get closer to the description.
Coding takes time, and it’s not a task on which one can just assign more people for it to go faster. They have to work with an achitecture where everything is interrelated.

On an other note
I might try the new search and rescue In WvW zerg. Even if it’s just one person, getting one downed ally out of harm’s way to allow for revive is gonna be great. Even if it’s just one target, it can change the tide.

You must be confused. Your definition of spike is too loose. The term comes from looking at charts of say, x over y. We call anything a spike which, quite literally, draws a spike on the chart. So, if we are taking about DPS (damage over time) the spike would be any time damage drastically increased and decreased in a short timeframe. I’m not really confused. It’s just as you said.
Every burst is also a spike. But not every spike is a burst. Which is why I corrected his statement.

A spike over 5 seconds is not a burst. In gaming experience – burst happens instantly. At one moment. Not over 10 or 20 moments. Seeing a big number has nothing in common with burst.

No, my point about warriors was a joke because they’re the only class with Burst Skills.

Again, I don’t want to argue semantics with you. Because imo a spike is a single hit attack i.e. Backstab, Maul, etc. A burst(short period of damage spiking), can incorporate a spike attack, but doesn’t necessarily require one.

I do consider a PBS+Ancient Seeds into a coordinated Rapid Fire with Smokescale Smoke Assault, under the effects of quickness from say Zephyrs Speed, to be a good burst. That combo takes ~1.5s.

Then we can argue about the efficacy of Backstab which is a single hit compared to a multi-hit burst like I described. But it doesn’t matter because I consider them both bursts.

Yeah, when it was presented during the AMA stream last year in September, it was advertised at 33%. They probably toned it down to 20% because they thought it might have been too much.

The increase is most likely due to Anet seeing that 20% wasn’t as potent as they may have thought. Besides, Hidden Barbs only increases the damage of our bleeds and only that, as apposed to other traits that increase the damage of a condition and offer something else such as Potent Poison, Poison Master, Amplified Wrath, or King of Fires.

I think that ranger is one of the professions that is most suited to deal with thives burst rotations. Thives atack style is very “in and out” oriented with fair intervals. Even pre HoT, thives had big issues to break through bark skin+ protective ward as they both activates on the initail attack, and while on the thief combo points charging intervals, we used to re-heal for full hp and grind the thief down. Evasive purity also is superb vs thives as it clease all of the thives main 3 condis(poison/blind/cripple), vs thives Evasive purity is probably one the most efficient condi removals.( I’m not even talking about the druid defensive capabilities and other active defences).

So if you ask me, thives despreitly needed a buff, and you can be sure that if rangers will suffer hard from thives, many of the other professions are insta dying.

I could be a bad player, but I sure in the hell don’t see it that way. On my Guardian, sure. The thief isn’t an issue. Ranger, I just hang my head and sigh.

I’m pretty happy with the new changes.
Running a few builds in PvE and WvW and felt like my condition build, since the release of HoT, was slacking. With these changes it’ll give my condition build a push in the right direction.
The changes with the new shouts are great. I might actually give them a try now, really can help build up AF too.

I’m glad they also changed the lootbag/damage/healing thingie, so that you will also get lootbags when specced towards healing.

Of course there’s still things that can be improved, but this looks really nice.

I am excited to use the new Protect Me and try out Search and Rescue.

Imagine being able to double taunt someone with a pet swap followed directly by Protect Me. Maybe chain it into a long daze or immobilize.

It will frustrate many people.
