I love the ranger. I love the game. But does anyone else think the ranger downed skills are really kittened compared to the other classes? I’ve been held off from killing other downed classes for almost a full minute before in PvP, but it seems like, whenever I go down in PvP (both WvW and sPvP), and even sometimes in PvE that the downed skills are useless unless you’ve got something with 50hp you can rally from before you’re executed yourself.

Eles are worse, Mesmers are worse if you can work out which the real one is. Warriors are about the same.
In PvP you should be able to be finished quickly, in PVE lick wounds is a lifesaver.

I think the Ranger downed skills are much more tuned to fit in PvE. In PvP we rarely have time for our pet to revive us.. and the one small stun doesn’t have the same effect as the warrior knockdown or the guardian knockback.

I would agree that our downed skills are imbalanced in favor of PvE surviving over PvP survival.

The Ranger downed skills are insane for PvE. You can res yourself even with stuff beating on you thanks to your pet res. The damage is entirely dependent on a Condition Damage build though, and your “finish cancel” is a measly single-target knockdown.

The fact that we have a good chance of saving ourselves with the pet res is amazing. While some may argue that you’re toast in PvP, I did come across a situation today in a PvP match where I could save myself with the pet res. The finish cancel can in some situations also buy you enough time to be saved, if you ain’t silly and alone.

Problem for me is, that whenever I have my Arctodus out and I use Lick Wounds it just runs up to me and does nothing… Or if it does heal, it’s somehow interrupted when it takes damage. This happen to you?

And I think it should also heal the pet if it’s not downed. Many times I’ve popped lick wounds when my pet is at 10% and it dies before it heals me at all. That or lower the cooldown.

I’ve had instances where my pet will run up to me and do nothing. Even in PvE where nothing was really happening.

I feel like the #3 skill needs work. “Revives your pet and calls them to your location”. First of all, if your pet is alive, even if it has 10% health, it will not be set to full health. Second, if the pet is not next to you, it won’t teleport to your side it will run to you, with the possibility of not making it in time or dying on the way because it ran through a ton of AoE.

I feel like the #3 ability should teleport your pet to your side at full health.

I second this. I thought I was doing something wrong, or completely misunderstood the tooltip. Glad to hear that it seems to be an issue.

Only once or twice have I seen my pet actually “revive me” (that is, have seen green numbers popping up) when using the Lick Wounds skill, out of the several dozen or so times Ive used it. I mostly roll with pig and cave spider, if that makes a difference.

i find every classes downed skills to be fairly useless except fort the xp people get for raising you. One possible exception being the thieves teleport ability which doesn’t even help most of the time, but occasionally it will literally save your life.

Ranger downed skills are very situational i do hate that our stun can delay very little but many other classes are the same too except those dang mesmers But I had many pvp matches where i survived insanely long with my pet helping and 4th skill ihate when pet bugs and doesnt heal. But Lastly all i can say underwater = OP i don’t try to go for the surface i dagger ppl and my pet heals me i can take down anyone even while downed xD

In pvp, the pet heal is insane at times though. A ranger can 1 on 1 anyone in a downed state with eaze.

Often in times where I find myself killing someone and he killed me at the same time, I’d outperform him without much effort at all.

My major problem with the Ranger’s downed state is that the 3rd ability (pet revive) starts on a 5-7 second (can’t remember) cooldown. If more than a single mob is attacking you (the player, not the pet), you probably aren’t even going to live long enough to call for the pet. I find that rather aggravating.

Also, as other people have mentioned, sometimes the pet AI breaks.

The knockback and knockdown buy the guardian or warrior maybe 1 second more than our stun does, if the foe is determined to down you.

I time my stun so they spend as much time in the finishing animation before hitting it, sometimes its enough time for my pet to get me up, or a team mate to save me.

I agree 100% >.< but i guess this is done to balance it cuz if it wasnt that way we can easily just revive ourselves, but hey i can’t resist wishing the cd was shorter
