Ranger gs/longbow rotation?
I’m new to ranger, so what is the rotation like?
for what game mode? generally, this game does not use rotations. this isnt WoW.
for pve, the meta is LB/1h sword+axe, and the general idea (“rotation”) is weaponswap on cooldown and blow quickdraws on rapid fire and path of scars.
GS doesn’t compete in pve.
GS in pvp/wvw, there is absolutely no rotation, and what you blow quickdraw on if slotted depends on whether you need cc, whether you need to get a Attack of Opportunity proc, whether you need more burst, etc.

Also I think someone proved S/A + GS was back to being better than LB again after Remorseless changed.

that could be, but with remorseless you are losing 10% dmg from PO from 1h sword for both you and the pet which generally carries over into the LB side of the rotation…
the last debate i remember showed remorseless double GS (weaponswapping for quickdraw) getting to within 15% of PO s/a (no quickdraw).

There is sort of a PvP rotation that I learned from a video and use quite often. It goes like so I think:
1. LB 4
2. LB 3
3. Strength of the Pack
4. Quickening Zephyr
5. Dog fear
6. Barrage
7. Second dog howl
8. Rapid fire

This is not wow makes no sense there are plenty of useful rotations in this game it depends on the situation.
There are combos of 3ish skills that are used frequently, but no profession I can think of other than d/d ele has a set rotation for PvP, it’s all about your opponent.

Ya that’s what it was. I remembered something reverted back to the olden days!

he said he was a new player. in the context of mmo’s, rotations are something you do over and over on repeat for optimal play. other than maximizing quickdraw, i would argue that there is no repititive series of skills that could be repeated over and over in any game mode for optimal play.
example: the chain CC rotation posted in this thread. thats not a rotation because you can’t loop it. its just blowing all your CC’s in an effective, staggered manner. After you’ve done it, you can’t do it again.

try to Double stack Barrage>quickness>RF/muddy terrain then RF , to keep a target in the same place if no muddy terrain use a Immobilise pet’s f2 at the same time as the Quickness or as most will ether stand in barrage or dodge out of it , the pets f2 will ether miss during the barrage or it will get dodged , so use Quickness then F2 as a reaction to the foes reaction of the barrage from there use RF to combo into the pet f2.
if the target closes in on you use RF only do not PBS untill after a target charges you or in a pvp case ports to you , save these moments for Sword 3 serpents sting to evade>counter attack > sword AA + pet f2 so you avoid the start of a combo attack and roll into your own counter attack chain they will soon back off letting you switch back to LB to PBS them futher away making the Longrange shot stronger and in a postion to use the Barrage combo again right after the PBS+pet f2 KD or immobilise so they stay in place for the whole duration of Barrage+RF+ 1 mobility CC be it entangle or full on Attack mode with Strenght of the pack to buff the pet During the Barrage combo a lot of hits , gives the pet all the might it needs to finish off the target.
thats the General rotations for LB/ S+X the off-hand will change how you do your rotations and if you need different Utilities for a gap opener ect , things like Path of scars are Generaly used just for Damage in PvE so it does not matter when you fire it but it is more powerful against things when both hit and return are vs a target that does not move which isn’t a problem in PvE.
Things like Drake f2’s require you don’t PBS or KB the target away so these pets are more effective with muddy terrains or Mobility CC in the form of Entangles or Spike traps though spike trap is the more risky one and that can be speed up with the addition of Pet swap to drake trigger zyphers speed then do Pet f2 at the same time as Spike trap>followed by a Barrage or RF if they used a stun break(the use of RF tracks stealth users that are late to stealth so beat them to the punch by using RF early)
So if fighting a mesmer or thief always use RF first then follow up with a barrage on yourself for a area Denial as they might try to finish you off with low Hp and a Barrage should be enough to ether down them or force them away from you , for you to Pet swap again and use ether Wolf Fear or a Immobilise pet , from this point react with Longbow longrange shot and plant spike trap where needed.
though its mostly about Control for Ranger combos just using RF alone or Barrage Alone isn’t enough to deal any effective damage so Mobility CC first then follow up with the Correct Skill to the situation.

Oh I see yea there are allot of varied ways you can do them.
Hey! fellow GS wielder here.
For PvE I like to maximize my damage with opening strikes, remorseless synergizes well with Clarion Bond and Two-Handed Training, you might wanna stick to canines and birds as pet for extra interrupts thus more opening strikes. Pet swaps, Hilt Bash and interrupts give you extra stacks. Opening Strikes scale very well with ferocity.
Clarion Bond gives you 4 stacks of might on pet swap if you’re on a fire field, so I take Flame Trap with me even though I’m using zerk gear, Tail Swipe gives you another 3 stacks of might on top of the other 4 if you wanna swap your bird for a drake. For the most part i’m taking stacks of 3 mobs (due to target cap, GS only gets 3 :/) in 2-3 seconds, even before the daze from Hilt Bash wears out.
For dungeons I don’t like greatsword, or longbow, I use sword-horn/torch with sinister gear, and have a rotation set up for insta 20 might stacks, with 11-15 stacks upkeep and perma-fury, i can tell you how its done if you’re interested.

For PvE? RF Barrage RF, Maul Maul Maul, RF Barrage RF, Maul Maul Maul. S/A is a little better damage than GS though.
For PvP there is no rotation.
Pretty much this ^
From the research I’ve done, most people recommend Rapid Fire, Barrage, Rapid Fire and then weapon swap until Barrage is available again.
Keep in mind though, that combat in GW2 is (supposed to be) more reactionary than mindlessly going through your skill “rotations.” It’s good to have a general idea of your max damage skill sequence. But, be ready to drop everything and adapt in the middle of a fight.
Sometimes I wonder what I’m doing here…

This. I’m also pretty sure S/A+GS is better than LB now so keep a LB in your bags for bosses that need to be ranged.
here’s a good build guide. DPS rotation is at about 11:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-joFbUe4qY

Would you happen to have a source for GS/s+a being better than LB/s+a? You are not the first person to mention this combo but it seems pretty improbable that periodic Remorseless procs during the GS side of your rotation (and likely just a single proc during the s+a side of your rotation) would manage to outperform constant10% dmg from PO.
