Ranger in dungeons
I’ll run zerker or some knights with zerker. I run a/a s/h because I can drop healspring, leap through it, blast it, then leap again. I also trait signets for signer of stone.
What are you guys running for dungeons? Currently running Zerker gear with traited frost spirit but I feel kinda squishy.
Dungeon survivability actually depends more on the others in your party. If they have enough DPS, stuff will die quickly enough that you won’t feel squishy.
If they lack DPS, the fights will go on longer and you’ll take more damage. Try swapping in a few pieces of Knight’s or Soldier’s gear (Cavalier’s gear is an option too, but it’s only available on trinkets which generally require you to give up more crit damage). In fact, carry them in your inventory all the time. Then when you do a dungeon, you can fine-tune your offense/defense ratio to better match the others in the party.
I run zerker. Between our +50% endurance regeneration and Serpant’s Strike, we have more than enough evades with 1h sword to deal quite decent damage with great survivability.
i stopped using the one hand sword personnaly. I do like it and i like the damage but the greatsword is not a terrible dps loss over it and you gain WAY more survivability. Ranged block, super long leap, stun+buff to next pet attack, when you open with it the first attack of my pet usually do 4-5k, maul it really hard. I tested it in the mist for a long period of time, of course the one hand sword come out on top in dps but like i said, not by a whole lot. Greatsword offer a better reaction time and more survival in my opinion. But in my build, you just change the trait to whatever you use. Like if you prefer sword, change for the one hand trait, you use the off hand, change for the off trait.
With this build i pretty much do everything and it got me up to the last fight of the queen gauntlet without any problems. Im missing tickets to try her again, only tried her once and she insta gibbed the pet. Every other fights were mostly a one try win without breaking a sweat.
I also did most of the dungeons and almost every path except arah 4 (i think) and barely never touched fractals.
I can solo mostly every champion i come across even on orr(the risen krait necromancer with a circle that give like 5-10 stacks of confusion still kill me though).
Well, that is a glass cannon build.
Squishy kind of comes with the territory. But I get your meaning.
Because survivability is on such a case-by-case basis depending on your allies and the fight, the best way to get the most bang or your buck in the damage/survivability tradeoff is not to stick to one balanced build but rather to have a sidebar strategy of some kind.
Personally my sidebar is mostly based in weapons, my Power Ranger mostly runs with Sword+Warhorn but I have a Dagger and Axe in my sidebar that gets switched in frequently for the extra dodge and reflect respectively. I know some people that sidebar defensive gear like Solandri, traits, and even food. Your sidebar strategy can consist of prettymuch anything, as long as it works for you.

Thanks guys, yeah I haven’t tried to run a GS in a dungeon setting yet. I usually go sword/horn and longbow. But with the zerker gear there isn’t much room for error on the evades.
also, if traited, and no guard in party you think signet of stone is worth bringing into a dungeon? I usually run with RaO , Quickening Zephyr, Frost spirit and lightning reflexes
I agree that group composition is important, however I’m pretty much full zerker with a small amount toughness and vitality and I out-last everyone in the dungeon most of the time. I know this is hardly an indicator as to usefulness since I couldn’t kick out as much damage as a ‘zerk warrior who survived and ended up soloing, but I can take a few hits and easily finish the encounter (if the parties agrees it’s the best course…I mean it does take days for me to solo bosses at near full health and I don’t like leaving their corpses lying around bored after I failed to rez them in time and I rub my longevity in their faces…). Rangers have a hard enough time being accepted a viable class for dungeons so, personally, I would stress knowing the encounters, getting to know the one-shot graphics and really timing your dodges/evade skills rather than entirely relying on the party.
I actually don’t feel squishy on Ranger at all, it’s pretty similar to zerk Warrior in survival with its evades and Regen. Try playing a zerk Ele or Thief, those are squishy. But what other people here are saying is true: if everyone in the party is pulling their weight in the dps department, it won’t matter how squishy you are. On the other hand, I’ve been in groups where I’ve felt squishy even on Warrior because things aren’t dying fast enough and I’m pulling a lot of aggro because I’m the only one doing damage. It really depends on your team.
I run my warrior or guardian.
I do Knights with celestial trinkets and divinity runes with a pretty sturdy build. I just don’t like glass cannons, especially since that means my pet is going to be squishy too. I like full BM so my pets can actually last through some AoE and I’m tanky enough to take hits for the team.
