Ranger is still my favourite class.
Amen – admittedly I’ve temporarily shelved my ranger and started enjoying my Rifle Warrior. At the moment my ranger has full berzerker gear and I’m wayyyy too squishy. I might give valkyrie armor a go, or maybe something with more toughness and vitality and see if I can swap out dps for a little more survivability.
No animals were harmed during the typing of this post.
Ok well first, Im glad you are enjoying your ranger, I too love my ranger and will only play him even after playing 4 other classes. Problem for ranger isnt pve, there are some issues but for the most part wvw and pvp are the problems. Im not going into detail since there are 305682396723906 threads about it but I play at a very high lvl in pvp, and I know how to kill people, sadly ranger has a harder time doing that than any other class. Admittedly I use longbow which is quite crap compared to other weps, but Id be happy if anet increases its projectile speed, makes signets useable without needing to be traited, and buffs pet survivability, also fixes opening strikes=gg for me.

Ive been mainly playing PvE and WvW up until the last week or so. So reading through these discussions I thought maybe rangers in PvP is a real problem. The past week I have spent most of my game time in PvP and although I dont consider myself a pro by any means I think I do quite well.
I have been using shortbow. I havent used longbow pretty much since I finished unlocking the last skill for it. So I cant really comment on it cause I prefer how agile and mobile you can be with the shortbow.
But heres my 2 cents. Theres definitely room for improvement and things that are downright annoying (especially inconsistencies with F2 pet abilities and ‘lick wounds’ – losing a downed v downed fight because ur pet just stood ontop of you instead of healing you after clicking ‘lick wounds’ while you tried to kill the enemy in downed before he killed you really pisses you off) but seriously people make it sound much worse then it actually is.
Like Dante I have tried other professions (ele, necro, mesmer, engineer & guardian) but I keep going back to ranger because compared to them I find ranger hieps more fun.

When I get into a downsy war and lick wounds fails, I wanna punch a kitten after Im done raging.
Most of the whining is for sPvP and is well deserved. Honestly bro, I dont understand how people havnt figure this out yet.
PvE and WvWvW is largely gear dependent and even if you think you’re “outskilling” players in WvW there isnt that fierce competition that you’ll find in tournaments. I’m not trying to attack you OP but im getting this feeling that you’re shoving dirt on to the whiners because you don’t feel the position that they’re in. You play PvE and WvW where balance changes and class imbalances are hardly felt.
And this goes for the rest of you that is trying to tell the forum board to stop the whining… The whining is well deserved and if you dont play sPvP tournament play.

Most pvers think rangers are fine because they can solo champs, then they go into a dungeon and are surprised when pet gets killedi n 3 hits. Then they try spvp and are surprised when their amazing build gets bent over and dominated from behind by every other proffession. Seriously, casual players, and pvers shouldnt be allowed to comment on pvp at all. WvW, ranger still sucks, longbow has more use there but pets are still useless. Ever seen a pet attack a wall and not be insta gibbed?
I was actually very happy with my full exotic berserker ranger, with 15~20+k damage with LB rapid fire [provided it all crits], until i saw what a warrior with a rifle could do in 1 hit way better in long range, which is supposedly a ranger’s specialty.
