Ranger needs...
Base damage is bad. Even with the pet a warrior or thief autoattack chain does much more damage, and they got spike to boot.
Camoflauge as a proactive trait rather than reactive.
JQ Ranger
We just totaly lack damage compared to other classes…

We need the bleeding only from behind removed from shortbow and perhaps change the bleed to a poison. After that gives us a melee weapon that will also do a poison with its autoattack. I believe that would fix any issues we have with dps and survivability in one swift step.
As stated in the CDI topic, rangers aren’t supposed to burst damage, we are supposed to do sustained damage with survivability, oh and we are the pet class.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I think they should consider adding a REVEAL INVISIBLE to Rampage as One Elite skill. We need something in the game to counter attack Thief invis and mesmer invis in WvW. My thinking is that Rangers usually have a tracking skill of some kind in other games and that should translate into being able to see invisible people in this game maybe. If not Rampage as One elite skill they could add it to Barrage attack with long bow maybe. Rangers could be much more useful in WvW with a skill like this and could balance the Thief invisible or mesmer invisible that are almost permanent invis which takes 5 or more people to take them out when they are running it. If a team of Thieves and Mesmers are working together they are permanent invis and unbalance the game a lot.
I find traps to be the best way to overcome the lack of damage elsewhere.

Rangers ARE supposed to burst damage.
Go and try hunt down a deer by throwing eggs on it…
Sustain dmg is for the casters, and for those who praise Defense first.

And that is where you and the designers are going to butt heads. Belzebu is paraphasing the quote from Allie which comes down from the designers so… Rangers (according to those calling the shots) ARE NOT (so you can understand) going to be a burst class.
If you look at ranger the archetype is already (even just within the universe of guild wars 2) is a mess, with too many slight similarity to the thief on a basic level and in order to distance the ranger and thief we see them placing them at odd corners within their subgrouping (adventurers) from each other (all ranger really needs now is the high health pool to complete the image) Thief is more offensively design and ranger more defensively, ranger (as the designers intend) are sustain while thief bursts… (snark ahead grab salt {and tequila}) thief got lots of design time and innovation, ranger got a recycled pet system… the list goes on.
Not saying that the designer are/are not making a good call on the whole sustain call, but have the feeling that all they are wanting to do is balance around conquest pvp and hope the PvEer keep the game a float monetarily.
AN is pretty lost at definicions and at logic. The way they want to be unique always goes things being under or overdesigned. I’ts not our fault that they just F$&#> up everything that most people want and we got used to – including millions of fans.
Go ahead, ask D&D people, LARPers or others
But in the main manifesto of THEIRS, EVERYONE should be capeable to do anything, so let’s trait for it. They’ve promised classes to be ~Equal at anything. We’re pretty far from that.

At the end of the day damage is damage, burst or sustained, and if they get the system balanced where over the coarse of 2 minute (or whatever long) fight ranger (and any other sustain profession) does X in who cares how many attack and the burst class does X in fewer (but spaced out) burst skills + minimal auto attacks.
Yup, what Bran said, I pointed what the devs think of the rangers and what they think we should be in game, I’m FAR from agreeing with that line of thinking.
Other think that was stated is that the devs are afraid of power creep, and in the future the burst of the other classes will be tuned down.
I seems to me that ranger damage will barely have any improvement in the future, we’ll have to wait until all the other classes get nerfed to be on par with the “meta”.

If rangers are meant to do sustain damage they need to survive. While ranger do have a few build that give them survivability the give up a lot of damage to do so. Power has superior output as well as being better for group play.
Whether a thief runs power or condition he has access to stealth. Warriors and Guardians have natural defense by way of armor. Warrior can have unbelievable regen simply by using heal sigent without giving up damage to do so.
Rangers need a inherent defensive device that can be use in all kind of builds. Whether that is taking bark skin and making a 5 point trait or developing some other device.
Once that is done we can look at gear not scale our damage due to pet not receiving benefits from it. Then they can adjust our damage so that we are truly are a sustain damage class.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

removing poison for bleed is the worst idea ever. Poison is really not for damage it more regen and heal negation. At 1300 condition damage poison does 210 damage per tick. poison doesn’t stack in intensity just duration. Bleed stacks in intensity. At 1300 condition damage it does 105 per tick but can stack to 25. which is easy to do even with the flacking requirement on the shortbow , putting the damage at 2,625 damge per tick per second.
You want to improve the Rangers damage yet you want to take away one of the best conditions we have.

Camouflage
LB to have one more low cd aoe skill
Pets to scale with our armor stats!!!
Ranger is the kittentiest class.
- Sustained damage sucks
- Burst damage is not there
- Survival? sure but you lose all damage
- Pet useful? not really
All other classes are superior to ranger. kitten ArenaNet kittened Ranger up.
