Ranger or Warrior?
I prefer warrior because they have the best of both worlds. You can go Melee with Range and excel at both.
Ranger is a fun profession i admit, i run a full glass canon.
However, pets in wvwvw are somewhat useless. In dungeons they always die *making u very vulnerable) The ranger is plagued with the “obstructed” bug. Most of the time, if i chase a enemy or even standing still, my shots can be obstructed. The warrior’s rifle seems to be a lot more forgiven with that bug.
Ranger’s longbow is pretty decent for wvwvw, however, skill 1 is somewhat slow and easy to dodge (same for war’s bow)
Warriors has heavy armor, vs medium for Ranger.
Ranger has very poor condition removal
Melee wise, unless you run full spirits, warrior will eat a ranger for diner. Especially if you plan on running with a GS.
It;s just my opinion but go with Warrior. Better dps, lots of builds to try and have fun with. Can adapt to all situation and no pets to manage and less bugs (so far).
However, GS warrior, is not the only way to go :)
I suggest you go in the mist and fool around with both prof and try different builds, see what you like best.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. You obviously were not a very good ranger. Id suggest not listening to this guy. When you said rangers lack condition removals, that was it for me. Are you serious? Empathic bond? Signet of renewel? Healing spring? shake it off? Spirit of nature? Five is not enough? Two of those being PASSIVE?? Erm….okay.

Warrior is by and large the easiest class to play with a variety of builds. A Ranger won’t see the high damage that a Warrior can because they share DPS with their (often difficult to control) pets.
With that said, my ranger still remains my main because I really, really enjoy the playstyle. With a Short Bow/Sword+Dagger Condition/Toughness build, I feel very fluid in combat and feel strong enough to engage any profession 1v1 – including a Warrior!
It -will- come down to how you prefer to play. I’ve had many friends say the Warrior was very strong but also mediocre/repetitive in its gameplay. I would recommend trying both out; you should know by level 20 which playstyle you prefer.

If you want high damage fast then glass cannon ranger is the way to go……I never go GC btw, cant do it.
I’ll try it one day…but for now rangers are too easy to kill.
You want more escapability? go warrior, in and out of combat like clock work.
9/3/13 rip
And in the end its all about how you play . Ranger or warrior or whatever is just a tool for a player.
Personally i run 10/30/30/0/0 build for sPvP with short bow/axe+horn and kick kitten at it. Im doing way better than i was doing on my D/D ele ( not saying they are bad, they are very strong ) but it only proves that much depends on you as a player.
You may view warrior as a meele comabatant with option of ranged and ranger as ranged fighter with an option with meele but you can play both any way and be effective.
So in the end its up to you, what you enjoy more.
If you didn’t like auto-attacking with a thief, I’m not sure if you’ll like the ranger. The ranger is primarily an auto-attack bot when it comes to ranged attacks. Which I personally don’t mind, but it might be something to take into account.

Yeah, pain inverter is definately a really good skill.
Too bad it’s an asura racial skill, and not a ranger skill.
