Hi, I’m planning on making a Ranger.

The general feedback I read from players is that Rangers aren’t very good at PvE, they can do well in PvP, and I’m not very sure about WvW.

I’m not gonna use my Ranger much for PvE, I’ll play him more in PvP and WvW. With that in mind:

1. How are Rangers at solo/small group roaming, and what are the best builds for that purpose? (If possible link build including gear, because I have no idea regarding ranger’s gear)

2. Even though I know that Longbow and Shortbow are underpowered, is there any ranged build, based on Longbow and kiting that can be used effectively in WvW roaming?

3. What build should I use for leveling?

4. Regarding pets, what pets should I get to level, and then to roam, and what are the differences between pets? (I really have no idea about pets).

5. I’m aware of the PvP Meta build list, but, again, is there any ranged power build effective for PvP?

6. Is there any hope for Rangers to become more viable in the future? Any words from Anet?

7. (edit) What race would fit better for a WvW/PvP Ranger and why?

I don’t mean to be rude but candid..all the information you want can be found in either a sticky or the first 2 – 3 pages of the ranger subforum.

1. I’m under the opinion that rangers are underpowered, but not by enough that you can’t balance it out by being better than your opponent. with that in mind, I think rangers are decent solo roaming, and “could” be fairly good group roaming. the only problem with group-roaming is that half the time you’ll end up being targeted first due to the image rangers have portrayed

4. pets are categorized into species (canine, bears, jellyfish, etc.) each species has a specific moveset to it, but each individual pet has a different active skill (your F2 button). I’d experiment with all the kinds of pets, but spiders, canines, drakes, and birds are the most popular for pvp/wvw (I prefer wolf/drakehound)

5. Ranged doesn’t work well in sPvP due to the maps being somewhat close-quarters and the need to stand on points to cap

6. There was a CDI a while back that we will hopefully see changes from around sep/oct/nov

7. Whichever one you like best. races have practically no impact
