Hey , I know it’s a random topic amidst the Druid (which I found fantastic) feedback but I have a question regarding pack vs ranger runes

I’ve been using pack runes lately but with the Druid trait ‘natural stride’ , I’m probably going to replace my pack runes and I was looking at ranger runes, so my question is do the +95 ferocity and 7% damage (and the little extra precision too) when pet is alive outperform the 150 power gained from pack runes? I’m almost certain it does but I’d just like some confirmation on if it’s true or not and also by how much more or by how much less they compare to pack runes.

That depens on your actual power. If 7% of your power is greater than 150 then yes.
Keep in mind you have to keep the pet alive. If you can’t do it go with pack.

depends on game mode…….massive aoe spam will kill your pet (instanced pve + wvw blobs), but when that isn’t an issue, druid will keep pet alive much easier and almost by accident.

but pack gives fury as well.

Pack is pretty good, and taking Natural Strides means you cant take the 3sec stealth/superspeed on CA form exit. Which is also useful.

If I were you, I would continue using Pack for a while until you are used to Natural Stride, its not like it is perma swiftness, you still need some swiftness to cover you when you have a movement impeding condition. Pack Runes will give you 65% uptime on swiftness themselves (if struck) and if you are running Skirmishing, 130% uptime from Tail Wind.

I would keep pack runes.

+25 stats, +aoe might, +aoe fury, +aoe swift

Ranger runes will probably do more personal dmg but I’m pretty sure pack runes will out perform overall. And the proc activation is sexy too!

Oh and btw, natural stride is for lazy people, the other competing druid traits are far better.

So, I am lazy if I choose to not run Resounding Timbre with shouts, Skirmishing (in combat only), a WH or sacrifice a utility slot for an inferior +25% speed?

The other traits are better situationally, whereas Natural Stride gives you that mobility we desperately need in PvP. It allows us to take a more offensive rune than Traveler so it indirectly buffs our dps too.

the question should be, for what game modes? if you mainly play PVE scholar is better than ranger runes for sure. Especially if you’re not planning on running any healing builds in HoT. for WVW i’d probably go with ranger runes and run natural stride if you can make use of the other traits in a druid dps build.

I’d still use pack runes. The buffs apply to allies and the stat bonuses are quite generous.
