Ranger's bow animation
longbow animations are ok for me, and shortbow 1 should use the same as longbow, imho, because it’s a lot unrealistic
More animations would be nice for longbow, but realistically, I don’t want Anet to come up with new animations for firing our bows after seeing how they handled Necro’s Axe and Engineer’s Bomb Kit.

Necro Axe 1 was altered to do away with a stow/cancel exploit. However, the majority of those that have vocally expressed their opinion on the new animation were not satisfied.
There are also threads here and there about the new Engie Bomb Kit animation, though, it’s meager compared to the promised baseline 240 radius that was left out or the appearance of some bombs having a 240 graphical-radius with an actual 180 hit-radius.
Edit: Again, I support having more animations to firing a bow. I think it will be visually pleasing and more immersive for those that want that sort of thing. I just don’t trust Anet much with handling animations nowadays, especially when they have their hands full with the expansion.

well good news is i doubt they would mess up this
Asura already uses flat bow for rapid fire. so the coding is there, (as well as flat bow for all shortbows in game’s 3 skill)
so they just need to move the modeling for that over to human rapid fire. or movement.
i’m actually surprised how different the asura bow and human female bow animations are.

I don’t really mind the character animations. What bothers me more is the skill effects.
Sword and GS have some Ranger-esque skill animations like Swoop, Maul, Viper’s Strike, Hornet Sting, ect. Those are interesting and give the class flavor. You look at those and its clear its a Ranger skill. Even the underwater weapons have that flavor to them, which proves that its something that can be done with ranged weapons as well as melee.
Then you look at both Long and Shortbow (and Axe / Torch / Dagger for that matter), and its just… bland shooting stuff. No unique effects, basically nothing at all that says “This is a Ranger skill” over “This is a generic bow skill that anyone could have”.
I’d love to seem them give the skills a visual revamp to make them more Rangery and
less bland. Barrage could look like a shower of falling leaves or a swarm of insects. Spread Volley could conjure up a Devourer “spirit” to launch the poison shots. Hunter’s Shot could make a spirit Shelk appear as you go into stealth. Crippling Talon should look like some sort of bird. Heck, maybe even put a little campfire graphic in the middle of Bonfire ala Healing Spring. So many possibilities to make the Ranger really look completely unique, instead of having a few unique weapons and then some that are generic as can be.
But an animation revamp AND an effects revamp would be even better, I suppose. As long as they took their time and did it right, rather than the aforementioned seeming “rushjob” changes to Bomb Kit / Necro Axe.

asura longbow animation is supreme compared to human
strafing left u have the straight back firing animation
strafing right u have the angled bow animation
rapid fire is the flat bow animation
stationary main is flat
moving forward main is semi angled

LOL korean MMO it would be nice if they add in more animation specially for range weapons
Honestly I hate the bow animations entirely. GW1 was just fine, where’d that animator go? More than anything I cannot stand how there’s no arrow in your hand or on the bow. I also wish there wasn’t so much whiz effect like you’re firing an arrow powered by a jet engine leaving trails. GW1 was perfect with its bow animations. I’d be more than happy if they literally used them on the new skeletons for the humanoid races. The arrow went on the bow, when it was loosed, it didn’t leave a weird trail. It was nice and simple, realistic even.
For me: Every time i try out ranger, i’ll die because of how boring the animations and gameplay feels. There is not a single weapon rangers can use, that i like to play with.
Eh, considering how the swords animations are now I’d rather they not touch Lb animations.

I dont know for some reason I just cant get into the longbow animations, I do enjoy the shortbow ones however.
I like how he clarified he was talking about skill flavor and not animations per se, and everyone continues to discuss animations.
For me: Every time i try out ranger, i’ll die because of how boring the animations and gameplay feels. There is not a single weapon rangers can use, that i like to play with.
… I find Ranger Greatsword to be the best greatsword in the game – It smashes, it bashes, it blocks and knocks (back), it whirls you to safety, it gives you wings, and if you get bored of it, you can hurl it into whatever poor sap tries to run from you.

Thats probably because there really isnt anything wrong with the flavor, the flavor does make sense for a ranger but as people are saying here some of us feel certain things are off.
