PAX expansion announcement happening now.

There was a video segment of a ranger using a staff to cast a sort of vine entangle.

Edit: Colin just said out loud rangers get staffs.

Whaaaaat? First class change announced is ranger staffs/specializing as a druid. And others gonna have to wait. At least some ranger love.

I could see a sniper. Similar to a ranger, but cant utilize 1500 range and has much slower attacks though they hit harder.

The one Attack we saw was a trail of vines. We know what Rangers do with Vines already in this game. I think its safe to say that while Druids will have a lot of support, there’s going to be a lot of cc as well.

So how are they going to differentiate this from other weapons? Power? Condi? CC? This could finally be our AoE weapon? Like an ele staff.

Well… the one skill we saw was a “beam” attack. Hope we get support and aoe, not sure how much of what we want they can stuff in one weapon. 1 new set of utility skills however sounds great.

Yeah, if we can get an Entangle that ignores the limit that would be awesome. Hopefully make it so its a little harder to escape from as well…that is, if you get hit with vine beam, you should stay rooted even if you stealth.

A return of preparations would be what makes me the happiest. I’m not sure if we will ever see it though.

Wow, thats exactly what we wanted (a bunch of us anyway).. makes you wonder, maybe they do keep a close eye on the forums..!

I specifically did not want staffs with rangers because we are so martial, but I love the way they got around that, by having us learn to be druids.

I just hope the whole “learn to be druids” thing isn’t limited to grinding crap out in PvE. I’m really hoping they give those of us that prefer to PvP/WvW our own path.

Considering that the Druid play style will might end up being the only zerg/gvg build worth a kitten , I wouldn’t count on it.

I would have loved for them to move the traps to the weapon and give us a staff similar to the Necro staff along with new utilities, but this might end up being just as good provided the Ranger staff has a VERY heavy lean towards group fights with aoe cc/damage.

I feel like they would have used a pet other than alpine wolf in the trailer if we were getting new pets. They knew people would be analyzing every scene for hints.

I love playing support on my ranger. Now I have something to use besides just axe and Warhorn !!! Yay!!!

Can’t understand the hype about staff. If u want to use a staff, play some other class. What’s the thing about being druid? Mesmer with medium armour?

We have no idea what skills it will use so far, just a vine that does something, so I don’t see any reason to compare it to a mesmer.

Because it’s something that isn’t “sword gymnast” or “automated arrow dispenser”. Rangers are in absolutely dire need of good group utility and aoe damage/CC. Staff is the mostly logical weapon to allow us to build for that.

Anything that gives us a new way to play the class after over 2 years is always a good thing.

I wonder if the new utility,trait, elites, staff have any shapeshifter aspects to them?

Always wanted them to expand the Nature Magic theme of the Ranger a bit more and I figured the best way to do this was to add a Staff with support and Aoe abilities. Can’t wait to see more of this profession specialization thing and how it works.

Support is a big deal, it’s just not done through stats. As long as staff can still DPS and doesn’t require players to invest in cleric gear (unless content rewards that) then staff ranger could see play if its skill are useful like guardian staff, reflects or blocks etc. There is potential to make a support weapon that fits the meta, it just kinda has to do damage and not focus on healing.

I think preparations pretty much got turned into venoms and given to thief. Rangers could theoretically get their own venoms in the future, but since they already share traps with thieves, it seems unlikely.

BLEEP NO!!! dont give them ideas like that. Even the Thief community doesnt use Venoms much…

That’s the problem, they spread out the ideas too much. Preparations should have stayed with the ranger. Something like glass arrows where you deal more per arrow but if blocked it inflicts bleed would be quite amazing. Actually most of the preparations back then were amazing.

Now they just nerf bat the ranger and spread all of the good stuff to other classes. Which is why I’m not hyped quite yet for Druid, knowing Anet we will end up being kitten version of Guardian. If that happens then we are up crap creek as we won’t get another specialization pass for who knows how long.
