Ranger stealth?
Would a triat “Becomes invisible after standing still for a short time. Any action breaks stealth” be too overpowered?
Yeah, because stealth itself is pretty OP.
In WvWvW yes. A ranger could then hide out in a tower or keep even after it is capped, being able to destroy any enemy siege as well as defenders.
Other than WvWvW I’m not entirely sure. Thieves can pretty much do this anyway already. Remain in stealth until they feel like attacking.
I believe it would be overpowered placed on a ranger though, simple because if we had the option to start all fights we would win every time. Ranger is such a beast that the only way we lose is if we don’t begin the fight or are outnumbered and even then we still win most times.
Jaguar should share its F2 stealth with the Ranger (in the case of the Ranger though, hitting an attack would break stealth as usual, unlike the Jaguars crit-stealth). This would fix a giant chunk of Rangers issues WvW. I dont think it would be particularly OP either.
We already have the one trait that stealth us. Some synergy would be nice.
I like the idea of the Jaguar stealthing us, too.
The Thief has a lot tied to stealth, including situational attacks. Perhaps we’d just get the guaranteed Crit like the Jaguar/Hidden Killer Triat.
How I see is that Anet wanted to make ranger like thieves. They took all the stealths away and gave the rangers a lot of vigor traits so that we can evade instead…

OH MAN! Now I want a BM trait that lets all pet F2s be shared with the ranger (ie you do whatever it is their F2 does as well). That could be epic.
Gunnar’s Hold

What issues u talking about?

Ranger has limited options once he gets outnumbered or jumped. Not to say he doesn’t have any (GS swoop, 1h sword #2, some stability), but it’s kind of restrictive when you have to take those + lightning reflexes to achieve max potential, which combined is still less than say, what a Warrior is potentially capable of.
Op I’ve been requiring for Ranger’s to have stealth; more like Camouflage for a while.
Great Idea’s about sharing stealth with our pets.
To Solrik; “How I see is that Anet wanted to make ranger like thieves. They took all the stealths away and gave the rangers a lot of vigor traits so that we can evade instead…”
You talk about evading, even that mechanic doesn’t work against a thief.
Why not instead give us Camouflage? We already have the Trait"
9 Wilderness “Hide in Plain Sight”
Would that make us look like thieves?
Certainly not.
Obviously
Camouflage and Stealth Difference:
“Camouflage is an effect that, similar to stealth, makes your character invisible. The effect functions the same as stealth, but is removed by movement. Also, as this is another type of effect than stealth, it does not trigger any traits or skills related to stealth”.

Giving ranger stealth would require it to loose on other parts (probably end-regen/vigor and/or hp-regen/regen and/or protection). This would be a major downside for a mechanic that is highly overestimated on pvp and nearly useless in pve.
And WvW is getting anti-stealth fields. So, don’t go on and trade your survivability for stealth just yet…

Why? Camouflage breaks on movement…
It would not be over powered at all. Could still be damaged and the new traps would I assume also work against them.

Not on pet movement…
I think Guard should be shared with the owner (10s stealth, 10s protection); the caveat is staying inside the aoe circle.
I love the guard suggestion! that would actually work… its sorta an ambush thing (pet attacks if you attack, otherwise stealth)
I can see this working, without being too op… since ur confined to a small circle
Lol you could go full GC with SotH actice and be invis. If someone came within your radius it would mean a 9k+ maul crit out of nowhere.
Am I good?… I’m good.
The pet would need to be stowed if ranger ever gets such a trait. I have noticed that it takes about 2-3 seconds for the pet to wake up after swapping it. In that time, the pet will just idle as if you were not in combat.
Personally, I would merge the two fixed opening strike trait into a 5p trait, move down the 25p trait to 15p and add the new stealth trait as the 25p trait.
Also, it would be nice if we could stow pet but still have the “Attack” command so that the pet can attack right out of the stow state.

Not on a Ranger ;/ We’re not what you call a freight train loaded with pain, you know.
We don’t burst enough to down people like thieves. They have time to react. The OP isn’t suggesting we get 100% crits once we exit stealth, either.
For me, it’d be a matter of hiding from the enemy and scouting. If they came too close my shadow could be visible, or if I was in the dark, a very faint silhouette. It doesn’t matter to me, because either way it’d allow me to be more useful for WvWvW.
That, and mesmer gets invis. If pinkymasquerade gets to hide in a bush, why not the ones who are trained to hide in bushes?
It shouldn’t work while in the vicinity of a WvW tower, camp, etc. So if you can see the supply of the tower in your HUD, you can’t camouflage.
Camouflage should be infinite while standing still and while not being damaged.
It should go on cooldown after camouflage breaks.
It should probably be a passive trait, possibly grandmaster. It would go well with trap traits. For example: Marksmanship Remorseless becomes default behaviour and is replaced with Camouflage grandmaster trait. Or maybe replace Skirmishing Moment of Clarity, so you have to choose between Camouflage or double duration on traps.
Doesn’t work inside a tower/keep.
Camouflage makes total sense. Can’t use it until stationary for 10 seconds. Breaks on movement. Zero chance that is overpowered. Not a chance.
Fits the Ranger persona perfectly also….one with nature and the whole scout thing.
Actually it’s “stealth” for 3seconds which is gone after any action you do (no matter if it’s movement, skill, dodge). It triggers once every 30sec and you can’t use it by yourself.
Compared to thief’s stealth is SOOOOO OVERPOWERED.
Seriously…. people…

It’s a bit of a long list.
Menorah | Charr Cat | Some Cat Thing
Still running my old RRR build because why not
Robert Hrouda commented a while back saying he likes the idea of stationary camouflage for Rangers and would pass it on to the devs. Whether he did or not remains to be seen. It’s certainly a great idea, fits in with Ranger lore, and as long as the utility or trait is constructed with reasonable compromises (e.g. cooldowns, only activateable in certain areas etc) it should give the ranger profession a much needed advantage without being overpowered.
I don’t like the idea of Jaguar stealthing us too… First of all, it makes no sense, and second of all, it would be bad while trying to hold a point in spvp.

Not usable in pvp.
Solved.
I think this trait would be fun if you made it a certain way:
Camouflage
If the player stands still for 5 seconds, they gain stealth for 10 seconds. Has an internal cooldown of 60 seconds.
Low uptime keeps it balanced, and if you don’t want to trip it on point in SPvP, either don’t use the trait or move once every five seconds instead of afking waiting for someone to come to you.

It has no place in PvP. It’s an arena, not the wildnerness. Only usable in WvW. Stand still for a certain amount of time =stealth until you move again. No way that is unbalanced because you aren’t doing anything.
I’m not interested in the immersion of it all because let’s face it, we have things shooting fireballs, firing arrows without quivers, and God knows what else. I care about the play and counterplay it would bring, which I think would be cool.

Neat …cool. Whatever word you would like to use. The more complicated it is to install into the game the less likely it is to happen. Anet just doesn’t have the staff for it. PvP would be a problem because of the whole ruleset holding and capturing points.
So it’s not about immersion. It’s about the size of the gaming field.
