I gave up on trying to tag mobs with a ranger in Orr. Traps do most of their DPS via conditions, anything which dies in a few seconds isn’t going to be around long enough for conditions to contribute much.
If you really wanted to do DPS via traps you’d pick the traits which give you ground targeted traps (at least 20 points in skirmishing, possibly 30 to get the increased effectiveness of traps and decreased recharge) and wilderness survival for the condition damage (or have gear that boosts this). Honestly, while traps are probably your best bet for tagging mobs and doing AoE damage before the zerg wipes the mobs out, they aren’t going to get you a lot of loot unless there are only a few other people around.
I don’t think the build really matters. Just use spike trap at the spawn point and get your longbow #5 skill ready and targeted. When the trap activates, count to “one – one thousand” then left-click to let loose your arrow barrage aoe. Once the barrage cast bar is done, immediately switch to axe/horn and spam your #1 skill.
After the mob is down, immediately put up a new spike trap. Rinse and repeat. If the LB #5 skill is still on cool down, still rely on the spike trap and use your axe #1 skill. Never try to use LB #5 after you see the mobs because they’ll usually be dead by the time the first arrows start falling. It wastes the cool down.
If you have them, use your QZ and RaO skills. You can use Call of the Wild if you want too, but remember this buffs everyone else around you too. Since you’re competing with them to tag loot, you might not want to do that.
If the DE spawns a veteran, champion, or boss, you can have your pet attack them. For normal Orr DE enemy mobs, your pet will be useless.
If you’re doing Orr DEs without a specific spawn point, then run with axe/horn and shortbow and forget the spike traps. Axe #1 and QZ is our best chance to tag randomly spawning mobs.
