Ranger update
well this game has gone the way of swtor faster than they even did. congrats anet.
I can’t believe I have been following up daily on the forums for this.
I honestly thought they would provide rangers with some variations / buffs. I don’t want my character to be overpowered, but I don’t want to be the laughing-stock either.
Sadly it feels like now rangers are it for both ANET and the other professions.
I mean, honestly, the main problems with spirits is survivability and they only buff the proc rate. The other changes? Not significant at all and hardly relate to the Shouts, Pet Issues, or the most annoying of all, the invunerability and the “obstructed” bugs.
Not going to say I didn’t get my money’s worth cause I had a lot of fun with the game, but honestly the game and ANET did not deliver what I was expecting with advertisement. Just another Diablo III style let down….

• Improved the effect chance on ranger spirits to 35% base and 50% when traited.
• Beastmastery minor traits now use the correct icon.
• Splinter Shot: This skill’s damage is increased by 150%, and its bleeding duration is increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds.
• Counterattack: The blocking portion of this skill can now be used while moving. Ranged attacks will not trigger the second half of the skill.
• Protecting Screech: This skill now states the correct duration of 4 seconds.
• Call of the Wild: The Wilderness Survival trait Off-Hand Training now applies to this skill.
• Throw Torch: The speed of the projectile has been increased.
• Maul: This skill’s damage has been increased by 40%.
• Sun Spirit: The tooltip for this skill now displays the proper burning time of 3 seconds.
• Whirling Defense: This skill was updated so that it interacts better with combo fields.
• Splinter Shot: This skill is now a small projectile combo finisher.
• Coral Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.
• Feeding Frenzy: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.
• Mercy Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.

Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.

Thank you A-net, for destroying my most beloved class from GW1 since 2005. I decided to be a ranger since the first time i saw the GW2 ranger skills. But after this huge HUGE dissapointment, i’m going to concentrate on my guardian, and rather make a different ranged character.
Maybe a warrior since they got a Longbow buff, and we didn’t.
Good job A-net, getting an official to get us excited and get our hopes up, then blow it to kittenland and letting down probably thousands of players.
Wow…just wow. No bug fixes, nothing to increase pet responsiveness or survivability, nothing to increase build variety. HUGE let down.

Half of these stupid improvements are for underwater fights and does not change anything with the role of ranger in PVP! I am more than dissapointed….

WHY are our underwater skills buffed? That’s the stupidest move possible. They shouldn’t worry about that, worry about our land abilities because we are on land 90% of the time. No one complained about our underwater effectiveness, but they decided to give 5 updates on it…
It’s great that GS got buffed, it’s what i use but this update still doesn’t allow us build diversity like it was planned. Spirits will still be 1 shotted, still can’t move without heavily traited. Anet got so many advice and opinions on what can work and what won’t yet still ignored.
And to add insult to injury to our class,

ARE you f-ing me? Buff their longbow damage that’s already on par or better than us but do nothing for a supposed ranged class specialist…

I would like a refund for the cultural T3 I recently bought for my ranger.
These updates are extremely disappointing.

well at least i’m not paiying 15 a month and only bought 10 dollars in gems since the start. very easy to walk away. i wonder if all the people that got fired from bioware got jobs here?
i dont like to rage on forum since it has no purpose, but this patch was an huge disappointment, thanks to god i have a warrior too, honestly? somewhere in my guts i feel like i should just stop playing, feel treated like a moron.
omg no utility skill was addressed. i can’t believe the lies and all the waiting for this….. time to quit. i regret i spent time and money on this game
Jon Peters, you have a great deal to learn about managing the expectations of your customers.
So Elementalist’s get some really nice buffs yet the class which needed them most gets some crap underwater buffs and some other useless crap that wont make any difference anyway as spirits still die uber quick.
Instead of adding all this new content try fixing the main issues at hand first.
Wow Jon I was expecting you to actaully fix some things with the ranger… All you released is a serious joke and definately not worth the wait or hype. What a waste of an update.
At least we got an underwater buff:( Seriously, the rest is the same and no one needs under water combat, not in WvW not in PVP..

Flame Trap was mysteriously ninja nerfed in the Nov 15th patch. The tooltip shows a 15 second cooldown, or 12 second cooldown if using the Trap Potency trait, but in reality the cooldown has increased to 24 or 25 seconds. That said, the Trap Potency trait doesn’t seem to be affecting this newly increased cooldown either. Bug or intended feature?
This is reminiscent of the shortbow nerf lie. That’s exactly what I was expecting so thank you Anet for once again showing us how you respect us as customers. In the future, I suggest you just ignore this subforum, at least that way we won’t have our hopes raised to only have them dashed on the rocky shoals of the lost shore.

Wow you’re right. Flame trap is now 30 seconds CD untraited. Did they decide that trap condition rangers were so OP we absolutely needed a nerf?
Also, spike trap is now 30 seconds CD when the tooltip says 25.
Snake trap is 30 seconds too, when it says 20.
At least frost trap is consistently 30 seconds.
The 20% CD reduction doesn’t work on them too.

Pretty much hate this forum right now, hatred increasing every single day.
Only seeing the thies starting to flame makes me feel somehow better. I guess it’s the understanding of “no matter how hard arena net decides to kitten up you class, other classes can get kittened up even more”
Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!

None of the core faults (for PvP) of our class were even addressed:
1. Pets
2. Longbow
3. Missile speed
4. Spirits will still instant die
5. Obstructed shots
6. kitten weapons
and did anyone else notice greatsword still does HALF the dmg of 1h sword (same dmg hit for hit but it half as fast as 1h sword)
I actually cannot believe how bad the patch notes in general were. I’ve been waiting for this eagerly since it was announced. No good changes for rangers, or engis, or thieves, or anything really.

Are you kittening kidding me? it’s bad enough that they lied about the changes but they also nerfed the kitten out of traps? Guess they want to go after the bot farmers again.

OMG. Im having some major difficulties replying in this thread without dropping the mother of all f-bombs after reading the patch notes. Im so dissapointed right now all my motivation to play GW2 is just about gone.
Don’t worry ranger friends John responded to the fears of the warriors so he might get around to us in 30 or so days.

I knew this would be disappointing but I had hopes. Its clear that those hopes were shattered and the community team and developer teams were not listening. Its very disappointing and even heartbreaking.

i knew it would be bad but this is extraordinarily bad.
Was looking forward to this patch all day. Needless to say, so very disappointing. Part of me feels there’s got to be another update coming down the line shortly, but I know that’s not likely. This whole major content update is really starting to leave a bad taste about GW2 in general for me. If this were subscription based I don’t think i’d be here any longer. Definetly won’t be spending any money on the cash shop though.
The ranger forum should start a petition, or something, demanding an answer about this update. May or may not have any real effect but it couldn’t hurt.
maybee all those bots in WvW complained they were not killing things fast enough underwater so they buffed them.
Long time lurker on these forums and I’ve been holding out for this update since the “infamous” Jon Peters post. Needless to I’m incredibly disappointed and sadly although I was looking forward toward leveling my ranger it looks like it’s time to play another game. I thought about rerolling, but why should I be forced to play a game in a fashion that I don’t want to. The short answer to that is I don’t have to play that game at all if I can’t play in my desired play style.
On the bright side we did receive a new ability from ANET it’s called silent f .a.r.t. after my ranger got r.a. p.e.d. by Jon Peters; unfortunately it applies a debuff that disables my ability to sit for 30 seconds.
Very disheartening. This is going to put a damper on the entire weekend event for me. Seriously considering rolling a warrior, or just stop playing the game altogether.
If anyone is interested into becoming the new “Terror of the Deep” here is a list of underwater combo field:

i dont have time to start other class and equip it… i was specting some kind of primary bug fix in this broken class,, and i have a nerf in my traps!!.. the only decent build i was playing…

Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?

After the long looong hopes that ranger could be improved in some way such as promissed signets, promissed changes in weapon skills, pets maybe … I am really, but really dissapointed.
This topic i’ve been following every day and count every hour till the patch will be out, but is there even anyone who slightly likes the improvements ?

This is far from what i was hoping, so far that its not even what i was expecting. They did not understand anything. I have to start a other toon now, grind gear again and all. Not really sure i ll since the way they are heading.
