Ranger update
I play a Ranger in GW2.
Strike 1 : You lie to me about gear treadmill.
Strike 2 : You lie to me about Ranger promised & so needed buff.
Strike 3 : If, then I’m officially out.
I do feel cheated and disappointed. I do not have the energy to even log in the game.
Hope you gonna learn to respect your future customers more. My respect and trust are fading …
I planned on going back to the game hoping this patch would help out us rangers, but I guess I´ll be taking a longer break from the game. Hope they make rangers somewhat good in the future…whenever that is going to be based on how “often” they make patches.

While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?
I’m really trying to have a level head about this but the ranger class update was the LEAST updated. Check the bullet points. At this rate, it will take a year to fix the page and a half list of bugs and issues with the class. This is foul however you look at it. Complete failure.

Speculating on the shoddy job of fixing the trap cooldown timers to bug them all. This means that trap traits were modified leading me to believe the changes they took back were either nerfs or buffs to the ranger trap abilities cooldowns. And quickly changing them back when they decided against them using ice trap as the “common” timer sometimes programmers like cntl c cntl v combo too much.
Fix the traps ASAP! that is a waste of a update. to no update anything useful to nerf the probably the only good build for ranges, traps

In a way Support rangers and underwater ones rejoice from this but not so much for any dps or pet users.
I defended you ArenaNet. I waited patiently for fixes to class breaking bugs. I’ve invested $50 a month into the cash shop since release, purchased the Collectors Edition and dropped an initial extra $50 into the cash shop on release day (head start).
I was even willing to wait longer if you could have just fixed ONE, just ONE of the major problems facing Rangers like pet AI and them being able to hit moving targets. That’s all it would have taken to make a large portion of Rangers semi-content for you to roll out future Ranger fixes.
14 bullet points, 5 of which are under water. 9 of which are practically useless fixes for Wv3 (great, spirits still get insta-gibbed).
Jon Peters, what the flying ugh is this junk we’ve just received? Is this because bots use Rangers, so you’re not going to get them fixed correctly? That would be an absolutely absurd reasoning and I hope it is not. Bot problems need to be addressed as bot problems, not as bots are Rangers problems.
I can’t even begin to describe the feelings I have knowing I now need to roll another class because Rangers just are not a priority for fixes; even though they are the most broken class in the game. I’m not even talking about a little broken; the gap is tremendous!
I need to go for a walk to get out all this angst I have inside me. Gear treadmill would have been “ok” in some small way if my favorite class to play got fixed, but nope. Now I need to let it all out and put an end to spending money on this game. I feel cheated…

Well. Guess which level 80 character just became my second storage char. At least he’ll be able to guard my surplus of materials….oh wait. -_-;
Thanks FailNet for buff underwater. Now I feel almost an ‘Aquaman’.
Anet seems to hate rangers for some reason.
I wish there was a warning screen when you select a ranger class on character creation that “Rangers will never be fixed; their pets are absolutely useless and can only unnecessarily extend your agro radius, so you can get killed faster; their utility skills are a joke most of the time; they will never be able to deal with lvl 1 thieves”.
As a single-character kind of player, I’m now disappointed I’ve invested over 400 hours into a class that will always be weak and broken.
I just read the patch notes for todays update, and while I don’t think throwing a tantrum or making rage quit threats like many people are doing is appropriate (or likely to convince arenanet to care), I do want to say that I was dissapointed with the ranger update.
The mission statement for Guild Wars 2 states that the goal is to make the game fun. Playing a ranger isn’t fun. It is annoying, frustrating, and aggravating. I made a warrior about a week ago, and playing a warrior IS fun. Do I love everything about it and have absolutely no complaints? No. Of course there are things I would change if arenanet offered to change things to just suit me. Lol. But nothing about playing a warrior annoys me to the point where I feel the need to come to this forum and make a post about it. I’m too busy playing the game. Because its actually fun to play as a warrior.
It is not just the lack of changes, but the lack of response or acknowledgement that dissapoints me. If anet has no intentions of fixing the problems, or if you think our complaints have no merit, just say so. I don’t mind being told no. It is your game, your rules. I get that. But I don’t particularly appreciate being ignored. Particularly when it seems as though the class I LOVED at game release was changed not because it was overpowered or flawed, but because hackers and goldfarm crooks showed up to the party. Those people will find ways around the changes to rangers. It won’t hurt their “gaming experience.” But the gaming experience for legitimate players who want to play rangers
has basically been made completely unenjoyable.
I have an urge to whine “that’s not fair!”, like a 3 year old about it, but I will refrain.
It wouldn’t fix anything. C’est la vie I guess. Life isn’t fair. But I am dissapointed.
I am not going to rage quit. I am not gonna pretend a tantrum will affect anything. But I am dissapointed. I have no choice but to move on, I guess, and accept that its time to forget about my ranger. I do like the warrior, so I guess that I will just have to cross my fingers and hope a legion of warrior bots doesnt descend on Tyria to spoil my fun.

I have to say that although it’s disappointing that Rangers didn’t see much balance changes (much needed might i add), i think Anet did well to update the extremely poor underwater speargun. Considering that the new area is most likely coming with lots of underwater content, it’s quite nice having an alternative to the spear.
The counter argument would be that underwater combat is listless at times so this might be quick and easy changes that don’t need much consideration to balance. (I have yet to find a fun reason to do events underwater)

Time to get off this train wreck . It seems to be get worst with every patch Correct me if I’m wrong but is it post to be the other way around ? We didn’t get anything . Wait a minute I’m wrong b the trap build Nerf ! I Just don’t have it in me to go on .There to many other games out there work hard to keep their player base happy .
I just wish they would fix both bows. A ranger class should be decent with a bow, call me crazy. I am in hopes that someday they will fix our pets. Every pet except bears die instantly. GW1 did a good job of allowing pets survivabilty and targeting. Warrior here i come.
With buffs to Warrior longbow skills my warrior now completely trounces my Rangers ability with a bow. Welp guess I know where to direct my full attention now. I was hoping it would be ranger, but Anet just doesn’t want to give this class the love it needs. Good luck with your rangers guys, its just not worth it to me. More than obvious that Anet is fully prepared to back the core classes and let supporting classes lag far behind.
I’m pretty sure it was the old HoH spirit spamming that we’re still paying for. Maybe touch rangers.. I dunno.
Oh how I miss my touch ranger…. sadly even the name I had for my touch ranger throughout my entire guild wars 1 career was deleted by anet and I was forced to rename it to something completely different. (vampyre erotica, after an inkkubus sukkubus song) how odd that it was legal in guild wars 1 for years and suddenly it’s bad in guild wars 2.
But that’s probably why we’re being punished.

Bad enough we’re having dps problems with ranged, but extending the ranged on the weapons alone does NOT help us in forced close quarters combat in dungeons and pvp, etc….seriously , rangers cannot dish out enough dmg with melee weapons let alone ranged…yep, you messed up YET again.
I give up on my ranger now. No reason at all to play it. Also these devs though we would be excited about these so called buffs. Yet they are horrid which only goes to show they have no idea what they are doing and their play testers are trash.

JP didn’t want to spoil the fact that ANET was never going to fix Rangers and that they’re pointless. Instead they wanted to keep us in false hopes that it might get fixed so we continued to play and pay for items on our hopelessly unbalanced, underpowered class.
They are pretty much just raising the rude finger at rangers in general. Someone in ANET hates Legolas.

Honestly I find this OP by the Dev to be a pretty d-ck move. I re-read it just now, and I feel like I was perfectly justified to be anticipating, based on his post, changes to some utility skills or at least a few other “significant improvements” in this patch, even if it is a work in progress.
If major Ranger improvements weren’t going in this month, then really the "we’re so excited but we can’t really tell you about it, but you see some big changes to utility traits first – post should have waited.

Don’t get me wrong. I am happy that at least someone took the time to come over here and post something, but every time I read it, it just sounds similar to the hole ‘animation’ bug/stealth nerf.
I have played MANY games in my 36 years, and I’m sure many of you agree with me when I say that when your gaming for that long, you pick up on things and you see a pattern on how things are dealt with in the gaming market. And for them to say “we made ‘some’ ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on ‘them’ because of risk factor.” He is telling us that there was more then one change done by saying ‘some’ and ‘them’. However, they couldn’t push ANY of them live? They where ALL a ‘risk factor’? Or was there one change only that they had for us and they didn’t push it out because it was a risk factor? Or is this just a lie to keep us quite till the next patch where we might here, sorry, the changes have been more complicated then expected, it might make it in the following patch?
Call me paranoid, maybe I’m just going off of the only other post I’ve seen from Anet in the ranger forum which was a fat lie trying to cover up a nerf, but the only thanks I’m giving out is the thanks for taking the time to type something. I’ll thank the changes when, and if, they come…sorry
I said it from the beginning of this thread and I repeated myself on page 12 and said sorry for having a negative attitude about this BS update. His post was full of it from the get go, just to get us to shut up. Then they push this crap out which is all useless and claims that this it’s ‘game changing’. I am not sure what game Jon is playing but it can’t be the same game we are…oh wait, that’s right, he plays a warrior right? That makes a lot of sense now.
On my last post on page 12 I believe I also mentioned, jokingly, that we’d get nerfed in this patch, and lord and behold…we got nerfed! I’m waiting for the dev post saying that the trap’s weren’t nerfed, it was a graphics glitch that was fixed. Well, I started a warrior, good time too now that their bow damage got buffed
Does any of the dev’s even play a ranger by the way? I would like to see a show of hands of all the dev’s that play a ranger please….<only hearing crickets>

Why not just rename the profession “Trapper”? You might aswell, it’s the only semi-viable build in PvP right now. Even traps are broken at the moment. I get the feeling ANet have no clear plan as to what the ‘Ranger’ is supposed to be.
You have completely gone against your description of the Ranger, by butchering the longbow and shortbow. The warrior is now a better ranger than the ranger. The fact that you think the longbow is in a good place right now speaks volumes. Could you be anymore out of touch with your own game?
Traps are now fixed. Confirmed myself. At least we still have those and our 12s Invul build.

If we only get one balance patch per month, and we only get measly changes like these in them, how long until all the changes are implemented? 2 months? 3? 6?

Push for the shortbow returning it its normal fire rate….it was nerfed because of an animation issue not because it was overpowered or anything….please push for this to get fixed now…it wont take any time at all and doesnt need to be tested. Nerfing a skill because of an animation issue is sorry excuse….change the animation not the skill so please return it back now to its original speed. Again it wont take any time at all.

I’d say right before GW3 launches but that would imply that they plan to do it at all and that’s just silly.

- Ranger is now called “Aquaman”
- Your ranger will not be played anymore
- Your main class is now guardian / warrior
- Warriors are now called “warangers” because yes, they own in range fights way more than your ranged class

I am really glad for this patch. Now, all these ranger bots we’re seeing in game can move to underwater areas instead.

Not sure if they actually buffed Splinter Shot damage at all … the bleed is 4 secs but my base projectile damage is still pretty low… definitely not “increased by 150%” as mentioned.
This topic stands as proof that words directly from ANET can’t be taken with any sense of believability. It’s sad really, as I had high hopes of my Ranger on the journey to and at 80, only to discover in the end they were a half-baked, broken profession which has no hopes of being fixed in the immediate future.

I don’t think anyone was expecting miracle patch where ranger would start rocking every profession but this is just a kick in the groin overall.
I just don’t get it, they even admitted that the ranger is the profession that needs most help and yet they give less attention to it than the other professions.

Well not really. IT’s a given that the game will be continuously patched to balance or improve classes in the future. But it was implied that this patch will help us out a lot, which it did not. He raised the hopes high only to not even deliver a fraction of it.
How is Sword “in a good place” with the self-rooting auto-attack chain, Jon?! In your wise opinion with all the numbers your two developers are giving you, how is this defined as “in a good place”?
The irony of the statement is that, by being rooted, the Ranger is typically not in a good place and is subject to AoEs, cleaves and other bad things liable to get them killed or severely injured – all without the ability to move around freely and Dodge Roll.

To be fair, the 31 changes for Engineer were tooltip fixes, useless tidbits (like being able to swap kits in air) or nerfs.
The core bugs since beta like sigils not working on kits or turrets not scaling? Completely unresolved.

Why Anet thinks a warrior with more health and more defense should be an infinitely superior ranged class than a ranger I am yet to work out….
with all the talk what is coming and the don’t know how many suggestions about pets and what not this patch is kind of insult for all the rangers
