Ranger update
Pets still don’t actually come heal you when you’re dead.
Ranger shelved. Warrior rolled.
Why Anet thinks a warrior with more health and more defense should be an infinitely superior ranged class than a ranger I am yet to work out….
Yeah, me too, just can’t seem to wrap my head around it.
Pets still don’t actually come heal you when you’re dead.
I’ve only ever expereinced this when I’m on an incline plane but it’s still very annoying considering that the lick wounds skill is hilariously crappy to begin with.
Give our pets at least as much power as they have inherently before being tamed.
Please give our pets a personality – a subset of our story that needs to be less static and more personal and powerful. These magical pets are severely undervalued and under-developed.

‘’ I do still believe ranger is the profession in most need of improvement after this patch…’’ so ranger was the profession in most need of improvement before this patch too and they did 28 changes on elementist , 31 changes on engineer, 24 changes on necromancer , 17 changes on thief and finally 14 changes on Ranger . Well looks like we dont have enough population as rangers so we dont have the priority to getting fix .
I so have to agree… Anyone in WA state near me wanna go visit ArenaNet? Maybe if they saw some of the faces of the real people they are dealing with they might understand why we are so upset, as it is we’re being treated like we don’t exist.
Anet seems to hate rangers for some reason.
I wish there was a warning screen when you select a ranger class on character creation that “Rangers will never be fixed; their pets are absolutely useless and can only unnecessarily extend your agro radius, so you can get killed faster; their utility skills are a joke most of the time; they will never be able to deal with lvl 1 thieves”.As a single-character kind of player, I’m now disappointed I’ve invested over 400 hours into a class that will always be weak and broken.
I agree with every single thought in your post.

You would just get security called on you. The fact that they post here shows they know we exist and what we are upset about. The fact that they do nothing to change it shows they just don’t care.
The fact that this message that you, Jon, put out has been seen over 86601 times and is one of the most viewed on this forums board not just Rangers is proof that you failed bigtime Jon. 86601 times is a lot Jon, and that’s just those who participate in the forums. Doesn’t that tell you anything?
Don’t fifteen pages of responses tell you that we are not satisfied with a “gee, maybe next time guys – wink wink!” after the (put your numbers here ###) fixes on every other class and profession in the game except us.
Rangers are far more important than you gave weight to us in the business/programming model and you darn well know it.
The problem is Jon Peters doesn’t play a ranger regularly, so he can’t experience the issues first hand.
Hello,
Rangers need a lot of things and the most important for us is the AI of the pet(since we dont have a choice to go without a companion),trait corrections , be able to build different kind of builds and the most important…….We must have the CHOICE to burst ppl down, cause that is a ranger’s job. Most of the ppl dont care to melee with a ranger ,or to tank dmg and DOT ppl down….with a RANGER.
I understand the situation and i appreciate very much that Anet is next to the customer, but plz read what we suggest, we dont want the rangers to be op…just to be able to build different builds(Burst build is very important for the most players that choose ranger),and AI of pets……Those things are important,if we need to compete with the other classes equally.
Thnks for your time.
Guys, Rangers are fine! Watch this:

Again, Rangers are fine…..oh wait :-(
O.O
I was going to start defending rangers and my lvl 80 main and tell you chaps to quit whining and be patient as changes will come for the better but after seeing that video…..
What the H*ll. I mean seriosly how the h*ll can you do so much damage? Regular crits from a charged attack over 10k? I have a pretty much full exotic lvl 80 longbow glass cannon ranger and the highest crit I’ve ever gotten in WvW was around 4500. This is just stupid, how is damage like that even alright? And I hear warriors also got buffed this patch..
*sigh I hate all the whining and am all for constructive criticism but this is ridiculous.
Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor.
Jon
I’m now understanding this risk factor a bit more. I think if the ranger did indeed get some substantial quality of life changes rangers everywhere would be so surprised and overjoyed that heart attack rates would go up worldwide. Due to this “dangerous” risk factor the idea that the ranger will indeed get some love must be one ranger players have to be eased into.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the problem we’re experiencing is just one or two people in Anet, and not the company as a whole. They’re probably in higher levels within the development team, and completely out of touch with reality. Anet should “look into” that by maybe looking into “alternatives”.
Why? Gives needed gear…
Why do you need this gear? To do dungeons… duh.
what disappoints me is the lack of seriousness in all this. ok is a game, no one will die for this. But the choices they have made in the last patch does not appear to have been taken with reasoning.
is true that maybe the whole thing is related to the kitten bots, but at least be honest! I need someone, Jon or whoever, come and say:
“Look guys, this class will still be like this for a long time, apologize for the inconvenience”
And with that, I and many of us will have more information to decide to invest our time in another character, or just leave the game.
Please, ANet? a little honest answer?
To be quite honest, I haven’t noticed any differences at all with my Ranger.
It’s still quite squishy and damage output is poor.
Only real difference is pets don’t seem to block mobs as well as they did.
The classes with the most problems are always the most problematic to fix. Changes are coming in slowly because fixing Ranger issues without creating more problems is tricky and time-consuming, not because Rangers are being ignored. Easy changes are always the ones that get made first, REGARDLESS of which class or weapon set or build needed it most.
Arenanet just needs to be way more careful with how they characterize upcoming changes in their announcements. They may forget that 99.9% of their players come from WoW, and, for some stupid reason, expect WoW level turnaround. What Arenanet considers an amiable group of changes isn’t the same as what a community of spoiled MMO gamers expects.

You have no idea if this is true or not. You are welcome to speculate that the changes rangers require are difficult and resource intensive, but there is and has never been any indication that what you say is true.
Additionally, you have no idea how many players come from WoW nor what they expect. So before you generalize and make blanket statements about who we are, what we want, and that we are spoiled, you should probably take a hard look at yourself and realize that your assumptions are nothing more then a reflection of your personal feeling.
Next time, I suggest presenting them as such to avoid presenting yourself as such an ignorant, entitled, self-proclaimed spokesman for both the community and Anet.
Thanks and have a nice day.
Since this topic has been posted, every day, i was on this topic, to check if something will be say about those 16 bullet point … Now when i see what have been done … I just want to stop my ranger, being totally useless … Jon said they’ll do something in around 2 weeks … I want to say RLY 2 week more ? For have what ? Maybe a nerf on longbow range …
And also buff the WA’s range
nice to know spirits were freaking stealth nerfed… can someone take Anets knife out of my back when i turn around?
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
We should send flowers to the class balance dev’s saying
“We have made the first step, please accept this as a bribe” – The Ranger community
It could really say anything but the more commical the better. Perhaps we should do a flower day and bombard their office with the same kind of flower, I mean its nature and stuff too so perhaps it might have like a deeper meaning or something. shrug Let us call together a meeting for “F-Day” at Anet HQ.

Flowers, pfff….
i’d release on them pack of tigers.
ohhhh they will run, pets won’t hit them
I think we can all guess what the next patch will be
Warriors:
- Rifle damage increase 15%
- Rifle attack distance increased to 1800
Rangers:
- fixed a bug in longbow that didn’t allow the AI of arrows to track properly. Ranger longbow distance has now been decreased to 600
- Fixed the AI with pets. There are no more pets. Ranger damage has been decreased 50% to compensate.
What makes me mad about this is they seem to think they know whats best for us. Longbow is fine, Greatsword is fine…..HEY!! We nerf shortbow b/c we think its no fun for you to press 1 all the time. Who gives you the right to tell us what’s fun or not?
This is what i love about Rift. They have a Public test server to test this stuff out with anyone.

It’s a very common practice in the mmo industry and very beneficial to the players and company as a whole why ANet doesn’t choose to do this is a mystery.

Because if they did, they would have to reveal the patch notes early. It’s VERY clear they don’t want to do that.

Yep, accountability is a terrible thing.
-sigh- I really don’t have time to level another character, but after not playing for two weeks and feeling completely useless in the dungeon me and my mates explored I guess I’ll shelve my lvl 80 for the time being. It’s just not fun.
Gotta say i cant help but laugh at anets balancing issues when it comes to ranger. Ive been wanting to play ranger i have tryed it a couple of times but never put much time into it. Im a competitive pvper so after hearing what i have been hearing about rangers the class just doesn’t seem to fit in tpvp (which btw is ridiculous all classes should be viable in tpvp it should be based of team comps not individual classes not looking so hot on esports right now are we anet?) but i never truly realized HOW broken this class was till i spent 5 mins on this post. the fact that “hey you like short bow? dont roll ranger they suck roll thief!” or “hey you like long bow? warriors are way better then rangers in that aspect.”…. a little crazy that these insane burst melee classes can destroy a ranger (ranged class if im not mistaken) in a ranged fight lol. I dunno im not a wow fan but its pretty sad that wow can have enough class balance to where all the classes are viable in pvp its just based on which other classes they are viable with where in gw2 is only guardians thief warrior and mesmers for pvp (sometimes ele) i started playing in the hopes of this game going esports and i have been trying to defend anet and keep my hopes up but after truly seeing whats going on with the classes i dont play im losing faith.

What I’m saying isn’t speculation; Rangers are in bad shape for competitive play and that fact alone inherently makes balancing them difficult. Something BIG has to change to tip the scale for Rangers and that will absolutely, 100% take a lot of time and planning. Not speculation; simple empirical fact.
Most of this games player-base coming from WoW is also apparent just by observing their attitudes towards updates. The speed at which people are expecting balance changes clearly indicates their expectations are determined by the level of turnaround WoW can push out. That’s the only MMO with the resources to pull off what people are demanding here.
This community is completely transparent and significant balance issues are ALWAYS complicated to fix.
Guys, guys guys.
Didn’t he basically implied in his post that he would release the upgrades on rangers in parts?
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?
well, for one, he said “that is the first place to expect improvements.” Well, unless my understanding of the English language is incorrect, his use of the pronoun “that” would refer to the previous topic of "the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. "
Of the 14 points that made it to this patch, only one of them addressed the above points, and it was done so rather poorly. The main issue with the spirits, wasn’t necessarily the proc rate, rather the survivability of the spirits. They generally die within a hit or two, so AoE tends to really foxtrot them up.
He also said there were going to be significant improvements in this patch… I don’t see any significant improvements to the ranger outside of underwater combat… which generally occurs about <10% of the time (at least for me).

except that this would take a lot of work off of the devs in that instead of having them have to test everything extensively, this sucking up a lot of their time, they can have probably ~1k players do it for them, for free.
I have seen this time and time again with mmorpg’s where there is mistakes made, promises made and imbalance continues. It’s obvious these companies don’t want to lose money. Another game just recently made the same mistake and lost nearly all there credibility, cough Diablo 3. So where in lies the problem?
Are they incompetent, are we too impatient, are the problems more complicated then can safely be addressed with honesty. One thing for sure is careful disclosure is a must for them. It’s clear the ball was dropped in this case, but we as gamers are a very forgiving bunch as long as we get what we want. The only point I would like to make is – As bad as it may seem this game is still better then 90% of the ones out there for anything that comes close to it’s genre. I again randomly picked the red headed step child path, (super sad face)!
i feel so useless running with my team, anet failed hard
Surprised this thread hasnt been deleted yet. Seriously JP dont take a kitten month for another buff/fix update. Give us patches every week, quit being lazy. No1 cares about content, there are more important things to fix like classes, get those done then do content, simple as that.
We need more then 2 people working on class balance in the game as it is so very important to every player’s enjoyment. Merely those 2 employees out of the hundreds are responsible for a large portion of my happiness, or otherwise, playing gw2.
Management would argue that the new content outweighs the issues with the Ranger Profession simple because of their profits and sales going up.
The priorities with this company is everything but organized, and every MMO company out there makes the same mistake.
The result? You lose your massive playerbase.
Don’t design a profession you can’t fix Anet. Itll save the customer’s time and money. Especially if new content is more important than fixing the bugs that has been clearly stated months on end by the community.

They already lose their massive playerbase…
Almost 40 Players of my guild quit already. No particular reason, most of them just didnt like the game anymore (for several reasons, pve, pvp, wvwvw, class mechanics etc. pp.)
Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!
A Lannister always pays his debts – For everyone else, there’s Mastercard.
While some of the ranger base mechanics should be looked at, I personally think they should focus on fixing the bugs of our class first.
Opening Strikes not working at max range.
Arrow speed/AI and “obstructed” in an open field.
Pets not being able to go up small ledges
Pets bug that stops them from attacking certain targets
etc.
With those bug fixes in place, we can actually see how good the class is and they can balance accordingly. Until then I know my damage is being held back by things outside of my control and design, and that bothers me.
[Bush] – Dragonbrand
In 2 years time we will still be discussing why hasn’t Anet fixed the ranger yet…
Stomp for Píken [PS]
Predicting they close this thread soon to sweep this under the rug. As it is getting off topic…….(Sarcasm)
When this many people come together and share a common concern of this magnitude, its bad for business…..
What was all this about pressing 1 all the time.
I still press one all the time, I might press 2/3/4 sometimes even, how exciting is that.
I don’t actually have to keep pressing 1, it’s on auto.
What a feeble excuse.
That was a feeble excuse for a patch. A couple attacks made into combo finishers, which they should have been in the first place and corrections to the attack info. Really disappointed Arena Net please please please try again =[

+1, made me laugh so hard and so true!
Lies, those were lies !
Your right, we where fed lies by Jon. Lets start with this:
“Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.”
That one sentence, “We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor”, is saying that the changes where already done. However, they where afraid that either we would be overpowered or something so they held off on it in order to do more testing on it or whatever.
Then he say’s this after the patch that was meant to help us:
“We made the improvements we had time to test. There are still more ranger improvements but when our time is limited we have to focus on things we know we can fix.”
So, first he said that they had the patch already for us but didn’t put it up because they had to test it so we wouldn’t be overpowered (like that could ever happen), then they had a MONTH to test and yet they didn’t have enough time to test the patch they already had made? They had a MONTH to test that patch that they pulled, how could they not have enough time to test? Yet they had time to buff all the other classes and test that?
In reality it was a lie to calm down the ranger community, then when patch time came they put out garbage that was whipped up probably in half an hour of their time, two of which he said he did himself, probably the rewriting of the skills. And they put that out and we get a:
“but this was a patch that contained ranger improvements and it will not be the last one that does so. Maybe you want more than honesty but that is what I currently have to offer.”
Jon, if your listening, it’s not that we want more, its that we want what you told us you would give us and you didn’t. It’s now obvious what you did, and I know many company’s do what you just did and they consider that normal business practice…however, it’s not GOOD business practice. I would rather get an honest apology out of you for lieing to me then getting a lame excuse. Or if you really want to apologize, I’d like to see you delete your warrior and play a ranger. Drop me a line, I’ll play with you every night if you want, because lord knows that no other class is going to want to play with you. Then maybe you’ll understand where the ranger community is coming from.
If you really want to calm us down you only need to do one thing, the biggest complaint we have, fix our pets. If you can’t fix out pets and have them do damage while on the move, then remove the damage from them and give it to the ranger as a temporary fix until your able to fix pets. Once your able to fix pets and still insist on having an AI responsible for half of our damage then do it, but until you fix it, give us our damage so we can at least be on a level playing field in PvP. You have no idea how much that would calm us down and make the game more enjoyable for us.
Hey, can someone just assume that this patch isn’t the patch which Jon told about?
Hey, can someone just assume that this patch isn’t the patch which Jon told about?
Yep, that patch he’s talking about will come out next year.
You’ll have to be patient.
Some of you guys ,should have been in games like l2 or Aion…….really.They didnt even care for us(customers with MONTHLY fee)….and iam talking about the forum coordinators……We had never seen ,heard or talked with a game designer…to us he was like Santa.
I kinda understand many of you(iam too a little disappointed) , but i think you exaggerate a bit. We must give time…things dont come always as we plan,or delivered @ the time that we wish……
