Ranger update
It was the same company……just the European division!So it was company’s mistake overall. Its like iam buying an apple product in Germany and w/e issues i have with that, they dont care to answer/solve them, cause its not the manufacturer company in Germany……
They just didnt care for Europe etc…
I don’t feel very comfortable about rangers in Spvp at the moment.
It feels like they’re allright, but everytime i play on my warrior, mesmer or thief i basically swoop rangers miles away.
Haven’t even fully tested the other professions as of yet.
I know they’re probably on par, but seeing alot of our pet damage and pet skills aren’t exactly working as i feel intended.
Atleast, not for Spvp i do feel a bit left out of the loop sometimes.

rangers seriously needs a massive buff in the next patch
today I had quite a number of 1 vs 1 fight with rangers in WvW and I ridiculously won all of the fights
maybe it has something to do with me being a ranger for quite a long time so i know the mechanic quite well
maybe it has something to do with them being a bad player
but i’m very sure it’s not me being a skillful player
my alt char is even using all green gears for god’s sake
once I saw them coming at me with shortbow/longbow I just knew I’m going to own them and I did

I main ranger and I just have to say, what happened to ranger forums, did it turn into WoW forums? No one should be fired just because you don’t have enough skill to kill people in a game.
I’ll say it and I’ll say it proudly, aside from bugs I’m happy and comfortable with my damage output, doesn’t stop me from coming first in WvW and SPvP.
The way in which you type at the forums ranger brethren makes me think many player from WoW came to GW2. Which is something I do not want.
ITT, I learned that OrangeMarmalade is just better at this profession than everyone else playing the game. Therefore, it’s balanced and needs no changes. In fact, every other player that has chosen Ranger should be forced to play a different Profession so that Anet can delete the profession except for OrangeMarmalade. He’ll be the Lone Ranger.

I agree with Orange too. I’m not going to say the Ranger is perfect, but besides the buggy AI and few needed tweaks, the Ranger is perfectly viable in every aspect of the game. The only part of the game that Ranger is lackluster is the extreme top tier of sPvP as seen in many of the streams. I am by no means top tier sPvP material, but I can promise you that the 99.9% of people complaining about Rangers are not either.
Additionally, I am part of one of the most influential WvW guilds on Jade Quarry and WvW the majority of my time played. Out of the top 6-8 commanders on the server, 3 of them are Rangers and love them to death (I know because I asked).
At the end of the day, many of the Ranger QQ is caused by the extremely vocal forum minority who are looking to blame something else instead of trying to improve upon their current situation. IMO the ranger does need the most changes/tweaks out of every other class, but the tweaks do not need to be as drastic as the forum indicates.
Everyone has a right to an opinion, and I respect the average negative poster, but there are some people on this forum that need to come back down to reality and get control of themselves.

The Buggy AI you’re referring to is the defining mechanic of the Profession. Pets. They range from great to worthless in PvE encounters, depending on the mechanics of the fights. In WvW, they’re woefully underpowered. Unfortunately they can hit very hard and provide great dps and the Ranger is balanced around that. Only problem is, they can’t path for kitten, they charge up their attacks and they’re fragile(the ones that actually can hit hard).
There’s not a single job in WvW that a ranger does, that another profession couldn’t do better at this point. I agree with you that a lot of the whining is hyperbolic. Bug fixes combined with tweaks are always the way to address these things. I disagree with you that fixing bugs with AI are all that is needed though. It’s the same thing in almost every game I’ve ever played. Pet classes are great at small PvE, meh at end game PvE content (due to fight mechanics and pet fragility) and, unless they have a build that allows them to marginalize the pet and gain power for the character itself, poor at PvP.

Yes I have rheumatoid arthritis and yes I am “slow” compared to younger players but that doesn’t mean that my skills are lax – even with the best skills Rangers are given no respect for their pets, their strength or their savvy in the wild.
In reality a “Ranger” would down a “Thief” in two seconds… in this game, we’re just dead most of the time in the sPVP. And fifteen seconds of death just means you are losing point after point after point… lowest on the leaderboard regardless.

I bet I can beat you ~40% of the time in WvWvW if you jump me on your thief main if you actually are a really good player. If I jump you then it goes up to about ~75-80% me beating you.

Ok then I retract my comments. Nerf rangers they are OP as shown by this guy beating people 75-80% of the time. God forbid someone from outside comes in here and tries to help rangers actually get better by telling how rangers get beat all time. I believe the majority of the ranger community would agree with you. However all we’re asking is that the class works as intended. Bad arrow AI and horrible pet mechanics (I hope to god Anet did not intend this) is what’s breaking this class.

IMO mesmers are just as bad as rangers now vs anyone who understands how a mesmer works. Mesmer was my first 80 before going thief and it was good class till this patch. Blind preventing clones from spawning is really screwing them over. Can shut down the mesmer really bad if blind them.

I have my own build which goes like 0/30/20/10/10
Which grants me additionally
Regeneration when my health hits 75%
Increases endurance regeneration by 50%
Me and my pet gain 2 seconds of protection when I dodge roll
And also I gain protection for 5 seconds when I take more than 20% of my hp in one hit.
I changed my amulet and glyphs aswell to have high power while having 49% crit chance. That isn’t counting my warhorn buff.
and it counters One shot thieves (faceroll thieves)
With a thief you just survive the initial blow which is ez mode considering all the protection I get from my spec and regeneration.
After I made up my own build, gear, glyphs, pets and Stat tweaking no one can take me either 1v1 or in team fights since I rock entangling roots and warhorn buff for my teammates, and my spec adept reduces the cooldown of both Quickening Zephyr and Lightning Reflexes and Entangling Vines/Roots.
Maybe you people are rocking the wrong build for you, remember the picture with GW2 was to specially tailoring your character.

You can not ignore some of the major flaws and then say, yea apart from those flaws everything is fine, for instance: “yes this car is great, apart from not having weels or an engine ofcourse”
Being viable also doesn’t mean you’re competing on the same lvl as others again an example: “It’s perfectly viable to use an old wooden longbow in the olympics” you probably won’t win, but it’s viable.
If you’re going to ask for advice regarding balance who are you going to ask, the experts (top sPvP players) or the masses?
An easy analogy: if 0.1% of the population says the world is round (the experts) and if I share that opinion even though I’m not an expert and not as smart as those experts doesn’t mean I’m wrong all of a sudden.
The fault isn’t only in sPvP. In WvW if you’re a roamer and fight a lot of skrims or 2v2/3v3 you’re more of a drag apart from your elite and speed buff. In pve you’re not usefull at all, you can’t buff as well as a war/guard/mes/ele/engi, you can’t do close to the same dmg since 30% of our dmg comes from pets and the pets that stay alive are ranged ones which do no dmg since even if you stack condi dmg gear your pet won’t benefit from it.
Commanders won’t feel the effects of how bad/good a class is since they’re running in a zerg (that’s why they can make squads), also being a commander has nothing to do with skill, you can be the worst player in the world but this doesn’t mean you’re a bad commander. (A coach doesn’t have to be in the same shape as a player on a sports team)

I underlined some vague statements.
“next patch” can mean the next time I need to download something, maintenance or content release. The thing to take away is that next patch creates the image of “soon”.(1day to 2weeks in my book)
“significant improvements” does this mean straight out buffs, cd reductions, general graphics updates or maybe reworks?
“a number of…” things we consider bad/broken might be so for design reasons, not saying what skills will mean people think of the “worst” and expect updates there.
“weapon changes” what weapons?
“a shout or two” is it one or two or even more? There are four shouts, so that would mean half? And ofcourse the same issue as before.
Now our expectations derived from this post:
1A relatively soon update (14days max)
2A rework/buff/fix for signets (since many are lackluster)
3A rework/buff/fix for spirits (since they die from random aoe dmg)
4A rework/buff/fix for shouts (since they simply lack use)
If there was time leftover we would have liked (but didn’t really expect)
5A sword rework/buff/fix since the rooting of autoattack is very cripling
6A greatsword rework/buff/fix since the damage isn’t in line with the lack of utility, we would’ve liked higher aoe dmg (buff to swoop)
7A longbow buff/fix since the overall damage is very low in comparison to all other ranged non casters (especially on projectile speed)
8A shortbow rework/buff/fix due to the “nerf” introduced a bit earlier due to an “animation fix” (nobody ever noticed the visual glitch they fixed)
What we got:
1Improved the effect chance on ranger spirits to 35% base and 50% when traited.
2Beastmastery minor traits now use the correct icon.
3 Splinter Shot: This skill’s damage is increased by 150%, and its bleeding duration is increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds.
4Counterattack: The blocking portion of this skill can now be used while moving. Ranged attacks will not trigger the second half of the skill.
5 Protecting Screech: This skill now states the correct duration of 4 seconds.
6 Call of the Wild: The Wilderness Survival trait Off-Hand Training now applies to this skill.
7 Throw Torch: The speed of the projectile has been increased.

Comments on the patch:
A wait of 25days created extra buildup/anticipation. The longer you get to work on something the higher expectations will be.
1 Doesn’t help, the biggest issue with spirits was the fact that they die instantly from random aoe dmg(ofc the low proc-chance didn’t help)
2 Nobody cares about tooltips, we’d much rather real buggfixes
[3,11,12,13,14] Fixes to things that weren’t issues, rangers were good underwater probably even OP
[4,8]. Good fixes on their own but not the things needed to make the GS more viable.

So we didn’t get our spirit overhaul nor our shout overhaul nor our signet overhaul. It’s no surprise people are upset.

Yep, pretty much mirroring everyone else’ comments. I pre-purchased this game after playing a lot in the BWEs, and simply couldn’t get enough of it. Come release my Ranger felt a little less reliably and/or powerful. And as time went on, things got harder, and with each patch things got a little worse. Doing Arah felt horrible. My crew ran a Mesmer, Warrior, Thief, Guardian and me. I went afk for 10 minutes and they didn’t even slow down.
Never the less, I was content to hold on and wait for changes. 2 months rolled by since I rolled the character during head start, still being plagued by issues it had since then. Now a third month goes by and this debacle about expecting changes and getting hopes up – to be given this patch. I guess the fact that I only patched it today shows that I didn’t believe your claims already. I was right not to.
This patch is a SLAP IN THE FACE to Rangers. You pigeon hole all of us into using a broken pet, a trap based DoT spec, and then NERF that spec. You don’t talk to us, you don’t acknowledge your problems or failures, you don’t apologise or make amends. This is pathetic. I never thought i’d see the day a company could fail their players worse than Mythic did to WAR players. Much like I did with that, i’ll come back in 6 months and look at the desolate wasteland that was the ‘Massively Multiplayer’ community. GJ putting a freaken Halloween event before class balance and bug fixes, i’m sure it was great, but I didn’t even bother logging in. Back next month.

Ranger is very weak, I have 3 lvl 80s all full exo all specced for dmg. Mesmer, Ele and ofcourse Ranger (my main) It’s pretty obvious my Ranger does a lot less dmg and gives a lot less utility in comparison to the other two.
Bosses decide it on multiple factors, range is one of’m damage is another. If you’re running with a strict team remember that you need to compare your setup (berserker/ramp/cleric/…) to that of someone else with the same setup.
Another note is that some classes might not out dmg u directly, they can be giving might, fury, precision or quickness to your entire team (quickness from TW=*2dmg for every class apart from shortbow ranger, which is a big dmg upgrade).
And ofcourse skill comes into play aswell, you might be out damaging other players who simply are terrible.
Comparing yourself to other people can work, however it’s a lot more reliable to compare yourself to yourself on another toon in similar gear.
I explained in my 2nd WoT above why ppl are reacting the way they are, we (the ranger community) have been treated like garbage and we expected anet to make up for it with the patch, which was another let down.

Relevant to ranger issues.
The fun part of the update is that rangers actually got nerfed. Ascended gear. Right now its just the rings and backpacks, but they will introduce other items with the next patches.
Players will become stronger and stronger (more hp, more armor, more damage). And our pets? Nope, they didnt get stat upgrade, so they are now relatively weaker than before and the gap will grow larger, as more ascended items will become available.

Really? because basically the only thing I can’t beat 1v1 in WvW or even sPvP is a theif, which is just basically unstoppable in 1v1 if they actually know what their doing. Also maybe a very wary warrior but that is about it. Honestly if you know what your going up against you can pretty much counter anything as long as it is well executed.
Now don’t get me wrong there are some serious issues with rangers… slight slopes in terrain or small rocks on the ground obstructing arrows being one of the major ones, but if you go to basically any of the other Profession sections of this forum you’ll find they all have pretty lengthy lists of “issues”.

4. Greatsword chain skill power scaling increased, now deals most damage of any Ranger weapon’s chain skill due to having the highest risk
5. Axe 2 skill buffed, seems highly lackluster
6. Sick ‘Em — Somethimg major here. This skill is literally trash.
7. Quickening Zephyr — I’m not sure this is as good as other class’ quickness options. Very long CD too.
8. Signet passives as a whole are pretty bad

IMHO, the only reason the patch felt like such a slap were the buffs, tweaks, and tiny fixes for Warrior combined with pretty much of nothing the classes that need a TON of work (necro & ranger are on top of that list). My main is a mesmer and even I thought that when they actually said the words “ranger” and “necromancer” that it meant they were at least making a serious push to fix ALL the bugs in those classes as a priority.
And then … nothing. With buffs for Warrior!?
Ah, well, I hope those of you that like your Ranger persevere. You’ll probably get some substantial bug fixing right after the next round of Warrior buffs. As far as buffs, though, I’d really only change spirits. Make them autofollow with a huge range on their buffs (eg. 2400m). Make them immune to damage. Active skill use should either outright kill the spirit or perhaps just half kill it. Never time them out for automatic despawn.
My main is a ranger. I also have a guardian lvl 80 and leveling a mesmer atm. I am playing since day one and have tried a lot of things to find the proper combination to make it (ranger) a viable PVP class…obviously I failed but at least I will list the benefits of a ranger just to stop the excessive qqing…
PVE: One of the easiest classes to play. Just keep distance, avoid aoes and dodge. Dps is not OP but it’s more than decent. Spirits currently are a joke so the only way to “help” party-wise is using the warhorn skill (which is quite good due to short CD)
sPVP: Since I refuse to turn my ranger into a “melee-hybrid” I avoid it at all costs. Instead I use my guardian for that
WvsW: Well this is the cutting edge. If you want to try and 1vs1 whenever possible you die…you can beat other rangers and maybe bad melee players but that’s all. However if you want to defend keeps, kill siege weapons etc etc then this class is more than good

I have a main ranger and generally in pve the ranger is fine.
In PvP im ok he need some patch and many of you have propose suggests bad and fine but he is not so bad, he need skills and he can be Op fast with no reflected up !!
But i think we see the real difference with the ranger in lvl 20+ fractals. Im lvl 23 and i have reroll with my guardian to lvl 1 fractal because im just useless, no dmg. my damage was bad because i play toughness, vitality and healing traits for my bad survey in ranger, so i take the condition damage for dps with my bleed.
So i have just some questions for Anet.
- Why we must be to flan for inflige our bleed? WE have no dmg with short bow, we cant place always to flan of the boss or mob because skill effect always hind and mobs simply move so always we must move for find the good side of the mob that just boring srsly. i dont know all of classes but necro and thiefs can do many stack of bleed just easy. So for thieves fufu, big stacks of bleed, high dmg, more? And i wantnt play longbow is just a boring waepon, just skills 2 or 5 are fine. Isn’t like if we can do permanent 25 stack of bleed…………………
Why we must have 2 power traits for perfored arrows and 3 power traits for benefice the effects of signets? As in my case i want play toughness and pets traits so i have just my stupid dmg, and with 3 traits in pet he die fast in fractals high lvl. This buffs should be available on base skill on ranger, other clase can touch several mob in same time without traits. So with that at lvl 20 fractal simple mob have so much life and me im here with my aoe long bow and my short bow to kill ennemy 1 on 1, after i have touch 2 ennemy my group have killed all, great im so useful.
Srsly have you see our f1 f2 f3 f4? Just for the pet and just the f2 can help, other are useful ok but its just for manage pet just that, i think the pet must follow us without this bad f3. f1 is ok but why use the f1 skill just for say attack at the pet srsly. thats 3 skill we cant use relative with oter classes.
I play with 2 or 3 in pet traits. i dont use a healing stuff but with 3 traits in pet signets of the wild is just useless no more survey with that, that can save you 2-3 times buts no more, i dont talking about the active signet, just useless. and signets of the huner useless too, more? signet of the renewal its only the signet useful. Signet of stone not so useful but can be with 3 traits in power -_- srsly for benefice of this signet survey we must have 3 traits in power, for survey!!!
Its so long to share all of my things in the ranger. The traits are so poorly constructed, when you see many traits must be available on base skill in ranger…
Like you see im not english and im bad but my post can be understand this is what is important.
I dont cry about the ranger but Anet, just play a ranger in lvl 20+ fractal and give me a way to be useful and i will agree with this classe.

My Ranger got picked up by a passing Liberator and took me somewhere else I did not expect. Although I feel the land of GW2 to be polished and well done, the broken class mechanics were soon forgotten as I traded by Longbow and Horn for a Prowler with armor piercing shells.
And for the meantime at least, games are fun again.
I find warrior with longbow much more ranger-ish than ranger it self
I saw some of my friends warrior do 7k-8k aoe damage with longbow and having kicka## buff

Leave traps as they are! It’s the only thing that can lure out thieves from stealth!
I’d prefer they gave traps a utility buff. I don’t mind their weakness because we have so many and they are so useful, I just wish that spikes had a slightly larger range and a slightly smaller CD.
I don’t use traps much. I do a lot of dancing and kiting, but my racial radiation field has proven to be invaluable in killing enemies, and if someone gets too close I just pain inverter and dodge through them, then P.B shot into their back. Assuming they are brain-dead enough to just keep running at me. If I meet anyone of another class(Necro aside) who knows what he’s doing, I’m pretty much dead. If traps were a bit more sleek and effective like the thief’s, I’d probably use one instead of radiation field.

this is what Jon should have said. Don’t even hint at what would make it into the patch or be clearer in separating what they plan to do for the class, in the long run, vs what they’re going to do in the patch.
ITT, I learned that OrangeMarmalade is just better at this profession than everyone else playing the game. Therefore, it’s balanced and needs no changes. In fact, every other player that has chosen Ranger should be forced to play a different Profession so that Anet can delete the profession except for OrangeMarmalade. He’ll be the Lone Ranger.
I agree with Orange too. I’m not going to say the Ranger is perfect, but besides the buggy AI and few needed tweaks, the Ranger is perfectly viable in every aspect of the game. The only part of the game that Ranger is lackluster is the extreme top tier of sPvP as seen in many of the streams. I am by no means top tier sPvP material, but I can promise you that the 99.9% of people complaining about Rangers are not either.
Additionally, I am part of one of the most influential WvW guilds on Jade Quarry and WvW the majority of my time played. Out of the top 6-8 commanders on the server, 3 of them are Rangers and love them to death (I know because I asked).
At the end of the day, many of the Ranger QQ is caused by the extremely vocal forum minority who are looking to blame something else instead of trying to improve upon their current situation. IMO the ranger does need the most changes/tweaks out of every other class, but the tweaks do not need to be as drastic as the forum indicates.
Everyone has a right to an opinion, and I respect the average negative poster, but there are some people on this forum that need to come back down to reality and get control of themselves.
I’ve played a Ranger from day one I’m well aware of all there builds, strengths and weakness. That being said I can destroy a Ranger on any other class in the game in seconds.
You are poor poor excuse for a condition Thief in every way, you have lower dmg, less group support as my Thief will rezz and stomp with blindness and stealth over and over again. You will die faster as my stealth is better than a ranger having stone spirit, bark skin, earth rune and 3k tougness.
I will kill a ranger with with Steal/mug, BS, heartseeker x2 regardless of your lvl of skill, you have no block, ret, or virtually no blindness abilities. Your one handed sword will only protect you and absorb half of a thieves intial burst and I’ll re-stealth rinse and repeat and you will die the second time.
I’ll also pick apart any ranger on my Rifle warrior spec, and Mesmer and will happily prove it on anyone in spvp in the guild you mentioned even with their flagrant abuse of illegal macro mods.

Rangers were much better in Betas, but the rapid shot/quickness combo melted most classes. The Ranger got a major damage nerf before release and has never recovered. The only issue players had in the betas was the burst damage which was countered by the guardian/mesmer classes using retaliation/reflect/feedback. Personally, I wish they would have only left it alone but right now the ranger is pigeon holed into a survival/DoT spec since pets die easily in PvP/WvW. Spirits are useless except against stationary bosses. I really hate that burning/poison don’t stack in intensity like confusion and bleeding. Also, you can’t body block in GW2 like you could in gw1 which I don’t like.

Rangers have been ignored since the release of this game while other classes just get more and more powerful. When people ask me what games I can suggest them to play, I have always tried to lead them to whatever I am currently playing. Since I am normally having fun with it. This is not the case with GW2. The refer a friend weekend got no response from me at all. I don’t want my friends getting mad at me for having them buy a badly designed game. This could have been so much more, and so much better. The events have been the only thing that has kept me playing. Since the ancient kurka event, I haven’t even logged in. My ranger class is a joke. Why bother? I guess I will chalk this one up as a game that was barely better than Diablo III. But that still doesn’t say much. Totally let down yet again.

Look at the other profession sub forums. They barely have a stickied thread worth atleast 500+ posts and not as nearly the same views as this thread. Yet still the Ranger community is ignored.
Too bad Anet has no care in the world what their customers want, which pretty much could be said for every other MMO company out there whether F2P or P2P. The truth is immensely depressing, even for a Payed 2 Play standard.
