Ranger vs. Mai Trin
pet vs any elite mob in dungeons pretty much gets the same results unless you have decent team to support you.
Also pet ai sucks and there are so little options for controlling it. I wish there was a “stay back” option so it isn’t standing in the middle of aoe or being cleaved to death.

That’s called Guard, plus if you bring a Spider and/or a Devour you basically get one and/or two mobile “turrets” on a 15sec movable window.
It evens out since PBK* ai sucks too

Don’t know what level fractals are you talking about but if you specifically take bear/arctodus for this fight not only they will survive but they are also able to tank Mai instead of your teammates(for level 1-29, havent tried further)
I haven’t done her in fractals yet but in the original dungeon I was fine as melee support with a greatsword and healing spring. The trick is to stay just outside range and use dodges/block when your health is low, rather than run far away and bait her shadowstep attack.

This still works at level 1-9, so long as you have enough condition removal. But at scale 20-29 and higher, Mai deals too much damage to melee.

I think the point of this is being missed.
The point is that the cannons and this bosses aoes will ream a non-bear traited pet everytime. With 0 BM, even the bear will die on the cannons. They should make the pet immune to the cannon barrage.
I can’t speak for 30+ fractals but in 1-29 if your bear dies and mine doesn’t(0 in BM tree) during 2nd phase you are doing something wrong. This fight is supposed for tankier pets if you can’t position well enough for them to evade most of cannon attacks so why don’t you take one?
Pet AI is crap and we must deal with it.
I don’t think this is a real issue. Mai Trin is not a dps race fight at all, you need to destack her & survive, that’s all there is to it, there is little to gain by doing massive dps on her, maybe you can finish the fight 10% faster.. (my fractal lvl = 50)
Meleeing Mai is doable with a GS (maybe even sword, but I didn’t try that), although I found close range shortbow being the best for Mai.
On a side note a dead pet might be better here than an alive one.

Even the Flesh Golem gets the invulnerable buff for not finding a path to Mai…
Pets are fine I have been running them with no problems at all in lvl 1 fractals, L2p.

Guess what? Not all rangers are garbage bearbow rangers. I like to use sword and feline pet which gives me optimal dps and NOT be a deadweight to my team. “Guard” is not sufficient when the player is in melee range since the pet will just sit there next to you and since it cannot evade attacks it will die while “guarding”. A “stay back” option would be nice to make sure the pet can get out of bad situations.
I give up!

Indeed, they are fine. If you are building around you pet, especially in Fractals, then you might be doing something wrong. With the addition of the Molten Duo, and Mai to Fractals, our pets will be dead 100% of the time so take the best pet skill, they WILL die, swap when off swap recharge then spam that F2 skill for best effect.

SB and sword/axe or GS is best for this fight. SB and sword gives you the extra evades to survive the barrage intervals and Axe offhand is a nice reflect time to time when helping to res a person since it seems that she likes to aim her pistol shot at the person doing the res.

This fight destroys your pet. I feel useless in this fight. No empathic bond, no pet damage, no signet of renewal… because the pet is always dead from cannon fire.
You can solo Mai Trin by running a heavy condition build based form of the classic Beast Master build, which is essentially 10/0/30/0/30. Also canines help a lot during the fight and knowing when to pull back your pet is crucial, for a heal that will buff it up. Keep short bow and sword/torch at hand, they will provide conditions and dodges.
How did I do it? I first sent my pet in to her. Your pet will naturally hit Mai Trin for a lot more raw damage than you would, you are simply stacking conditions on her. I liked using fire trap / camp fire / throw torch on her, then using shortbow for bleeds and poison. You will need condition removal big time, so signet of renewal. Lightning reflexes is a lifesaver. Elite wise? that’s tricky, in this fight our elites suck, you have to use them just right so they don’t go poop on you, grasping vines can help.
How long you will survive will depend solely on your own skill, the people in the party who I pugged in all died when she had 1/2 of the HP down, I soloed her the rest of the fight, died when he probably had 5% of the health left because I got greedy and started to use the sword to hit her, hence sword rooted to death. In the meantime, I got comments such as #rangeroverpowered #rangerisgod, etc… made me laugh.
Edit: this was not a high level fractal… otherwise I would have been toast, clearly as anyone else would have been.
