Ranger vs lupicus
I did it on my ranger with LB/GS without any problems. Why do you need evades on LB? O.o Endurance is totaly enough for this fight.
And when I got caught in bubble 2 times in a row: first one I just left thanks to CC redirect to my pet, and 2nd one I stood inside just using block on GS.
Im pretty sure some wise-guy will say Im playing ranger wrong, and although I was the last to survive the fight, I wasn’t able to contribute much to the team other than count as another target for bosses like lupi.
So yeah, you wrote topic to just whine, and anyone who give you advice/diagree is wrong?
As far as I know, axe 5 reflects Lupicus big AoE in phase 2. Just stand near to him and use it when he does his animation.
I use axe/axe and greatsword. Offhand training to reflect, greatsword for blocks.
Let your pet melee attack lupi in phase 1, use a jaguar, make sure bouncing axes get locust aggro away from cat or stealth cat to deaggro. Keep cat alive
- the first to attack lupi gets the first grub, this can be a pet. So be aware of cat getting grub or simply make the first attack before your cat
- after first grub it’s random until the last grub, pets are not prioritized, for the love of god dodge the grub spawns by dodging him when he windmills his hand to his head. When hand is near head you dodge—this will make you look good and people will like having you around
- final grub before phase 2 spawns on nearest player or minion. This is where ranger shines: let cat get grub, green cloud appears, boom, swap pets and grub is gone, clean transition into phase 2
- if you’re really good, greatsword autoattack with automatically evade his attacks in phase 2 (except for necrid barrage of course, then you switch to axe and reflect)
- do not do not do not let lupi lifedrain pet in phase 3, negative dps, especially if he eats a bear, you’ll find him with 1/2 health again and your party will kick you
Yeah, ranger is now a melee class.
Well, longbow and sword/X is good (torch, axe, warhorn all good dungeon offhands). Every profession melees, right?
The problem with ANY pet against Lupicus is the exact same problem they also have against Molradovich… Where each additional pet, also causes additional Bolts & AOE’s (& maybe even more grubs between stage 1 & 2??)
The Devs clearly didn’t think this one through either…
Funny how some rangers have problems and blame the class yet others can solo this boss. Stop putting all your problems on the Devs.
Also to be honest axes are really more of a range weapon on the ranger. And again ranger doesn’t mean archer.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

Offtop, but…
And again, ranger is closest to archer. Just as ppl interested in mages went to ele, ppl interested in archers went to rangers. And you can’t blame them for trying to build character around one/two of weapon he has available.

talking to the wrong class about soloing there….

but none the less we can do perfectly fine and contribute, and some players tend to think we suck and don’t contribute. honestly if people know things are not going right they should stop and ask or say something in map chat about how it is supposed to be. odds are someone will give you great advice or they can give you a build that would fit your play style better… will it be the play style you want? maybe not but you will have fun playing it still after you learn how it works if it matches how you want to play rather than trying to force something that doesn’t play how you want it too, to play how you want it too.
just ask for help stop being a little chicken and admit you need advice and give someone your build you have and tell them how you would like to play and is there anyway that you can play how you would like to play.
and for anyone else this applies to pvp as well as pve if you are having issues stop making threads at the first sign of things not going the way you want, and actually ask for help, if you cant find any, then make a thread asking for help and list your build, armor, fav pet, how you want to play etc. and we can try to help you on forums. making posts complaining is not doing you nor anyone else any good, instead of fixing your problem or anyone else that has the same problem you are just creating a landslide that usually consists of players who do perfectly fine vs players that are struggling with no real answers about anything.

I was using my ranger yesterday for a run in arah path 4 (only dungeon Im missing for my dungeon master title) and I dared to use my short-bow/greatsword. I know the lack of range for the short-bow was bad but it became awfully apparent when battling against lupicus. I just couldn’t hit him from a safe distance, forcing me to close up the gap and face the awful danger, and my cat pets dealing basically no meaningful damage. Long bow was a no no, due to the fact that it has no evades.
I URGE the devs to play more often in open pve before nerfing the range of the ranger, before nerfing the damage of the pet. Rangers are just not viable COMPARED to the best of classes.

I run Sb/GS all the time, and I have 0 issues with lupicus.
I think this may be a l2p issue, sorry man, but you gotta lean how to utilize your movement, dodges, and evades better.
I’m used to do Lupicus with 2 shortbows (both with sigil of battle) for constant weapon swap for swiftness, fury and might for me and my pet. Never had problems doing it. Usually Healing Spring + Runes of Dwayna (full set) + Settler’s Set is enough to control a few hits from him. And for those stronger hits, I always take “Protect Me” and Signet of Stone for this fight.
Raven Oakwood – Sylvari Ranger
Kal Vas Flam [KVF] – Jade Quarry
Hi everyone,
I never really said I cannot defeat him. Hell, so far I have dungeon mastery and I can take care of this guy. The problem that I NOTICED is the short bow range. The short bow had a great range so that you can fire it at a safe distance, although not as far as the long bow but still safe.
YES, I used GS to block and gain distance with swoop, YES I used the pet to tank, YES it was a bear, YES YES YES I know all of your tips guys. But the problem is the shortbow has received an undesired, unwanted, uncalled for nerf that makes rangers even less desireable. Im sticking with the ranger, but now everytime I use my shortbow I fell like Im getting stabbed in the heart.
Just sharing my two cents with the internet.
Think you’re just wasting your time Aden… I’m not seeing any signs here these guys are listening or even have the capability to. The dungeon forum is usually just as bad though when it comes to Lupicus. It’s a confusing fight in general where the most important mechanics of it (and illusions of where “safety” actually is) are usually the last thing anyone talks about b/c they’d rather stroke their own egos first.
I feel as a tank ranger I can solo this boss and I tend to do AMAZING against him in a group. I use Axe/Horn and a GS and frankly I never feel scared it comes down to gameplay, skill and doing the right thing and making the right choices. People who want to run in and blast away without any thought will get killed rather fast.
