Rangers and the Path 4 (Arah) dilemma.
Bumping my own thread for help please. Any help @ all….ANY.
I’m sorry i wish i could help but i don’t know
All i can suggest is trying to make some good friends to do it with or go with your guild so you won’t get kicked.
good luck
I’ll try…*walks out of thread sighing.
Dps might be an issue for Dwayna but the sparks following pets is probably more of a problem. I’m guessing that rangers would otherwise be a reasonable support class to remove the petrification with the tears. Someone has to do it.
never did p4, but if pets are an issue, maybe try with guard to send them away?
Hi….found a couple of youtubes of a group with a Ranger finishing P4. Not sure if this is pre patch.

Can’t use guared, I find it’s utterly unreliable…I swear, just the other day I was pleading my pet to guard area… Finally after 3/4 tries it relented. I don’t mind being the depetrifier. Just thought there’d be othe vacancies available for ranger. But with Sparks loving our pets I imagine ranger is limited.
Thank you for links…going to watch them now.
If you haven’t figured something out by tomorrow night I will run the path and give you my input.
Am I good?… I’m good.
I haven’t done Arah P4, but can’t you just stow your pet while you’re on the move like in other dungeons? That’s what I do to avoid aggro.

I can give an advice, join a proper guild and do a full guild run on arah path 4! and put that pet on avoid combat.
Never ever do Arah path4 in random pugs. its not worth it at all.
Before the new updates I was on a guild run, 4 Warriors and 1 Ranger. The Ranger kept us alive with support and threw tears on us, so we didn’t get paralyzed too much. Rest of us the 4 warriors changed to pure berzerker gear and we completed Simin in 2nd try because first time the pet wasn’t on avoid combat xD
I haven’t done Arah path 4 on my own ranger yet and will never do it, but perhaps I should try it someday, but it is so different today from before the update.
I use this build in PvE and WvW and it works fine-> 30/0/30/10/0. I will not rely on my pet that almost get one shotted in most dungeons, but now that I jump around in higher fractals I have switched to 30/25/15.0.0..But heck higher dmg a lot, but lower survivability.. So I will soon change to the old build again and see how much difference the survivability does
Anyway-> Higher lvl dungeons and bosses like Lupicus and such stuff. Pet shall be on AVOID COMBAT!! Our pet is getting more and more useless.. Sorry to say but I have tried to run full beast master and mastered it to perfection, but sending pet into battle against bosses.. Well yeah the pet now needs two shots to get downed instead of 1 and grub spawn on pet, so… well pet on avoid combat and trust your own skills as a Ranger and kick the pet in the behind and say “shame on you!”
I have played Ranger since gw1 from 2005 and is kind of disappointed on the Rangers now, but I will not give up on the class. Funny to play and the pet makes the day even funnier when it agro something it was not supposed to do in a dungeon xD

Never do anything with random pugs, run with guildies or friends – AND USE TS/Vent
I did the path, I play ranger.
Anyways, the trick is to move the boss all the way into the corner, so people can DPS there without worrying about the sparks. Let 2 people do the sparks (1 on north side for 3 sparks, 1 on south side for 2 sparks). Gather a kittenload of tears in the corner you want to kill her, and let 1 man (that was me) keep throwing tears whenever the 2 DPS’ers are about to get petrified. The one doing sparks on south side can help DPS as well, as long as the person is ready for sparks at all times. Keep your pet on passive. I’m glasscannon and run shortbow, healing spring, quickening Zephyr, Protect Me (Wasn’t really needed, can be changed), “Search And Rescue” to send the pet in if the 2 DPS’ing get downed and Rampage as One for the extra damage. It is mainly a matter of the 2 doing sparks to be able to do it quickly enough though. In any event, did you try post-patch? I think they nerfed the boss.
I have taken aboard your suggestions regarding pugs. lesson learned. The ISSUE at hand is my bloody pet…
@treeline. used that method..by far the furthest I got in Simi….SPARK STILL SMELLED PET FROM A MILE AWAY….or the spark runners ran a tad too close to me ,than bam! game over.
@Mercy tree…pugs a thing of of the past.
@kesuh Even with pet on passive (Which is a bit more often than ,I like) pets still aggros. BECAUSE IT AUTO UNSTOWS and because A-net decided it’s best to keep us in a symbiotic relationship with our pets.
This is like a no win issue…
PET ON PASSIVE AGGROS…..
PET ACTIVE DIES ALMOST ALWAYS INSTANTANEOUSLY.
DPS LOWERS, EVERYBODY GIVES YOU THE KITTEN RANGER LOOK
YOU’VE NOTHING TO SAY BUT " my fault again..sorry guys"
CONSPIRACY TO KICK YOU GETS FORGED…YOU EVENTUALLY GET KICKED…..
AND KIDS,THAT’S WHY YOU NEVER BRING A RANGER TO (THIS) DUNGEON !!! INSCRIBE IT ON YOUR LFM.COM POSTS!
DEVS,IF YOU ARE READING: We Need to get out of this symbiotic relationship with our pets….or alternatively….allow us perma stow. Rangers are like the unwanted red-headed step child.!!

I must be blind as a bat or simply skimmed through these vids a tad too fast. I don’t see rangers in there.
I have done path 4 with a bunch of people from gw2lfg.
We had me(ranger) 2 warriors 1 ele 1 mesmer. We had enough Dps to kill her in 2 turns – so we only had to collect sparks once. Obviously the ranger should throw the tears because half his dps comes from the Pet anyways.
To max out my dps in between throwing the tears i used double birds, quickening zephyr and most importantly Frost Spirit. I switched to (nearly) full berserker gear and used 25/25/0/15/5 (if i remember correctly). I used Longbow+Axe+Horn. Dont forget buff food/potions.
Make sure to throw the tears at the right moment.
Sad but true: rather wait 5 seconds to throw a tear at a warrior in the right time than let him turn to stone for only 1 second. He does more dmg in that 1 second than your poor ranger and your poor (most likely dead) pet in 5 seconds.

BOLDED: So true …yet so sad. Poor rangers, AND yet still, our cries for help falls on deaf ears….
You mentioned you guys did IT in 2 two turns, but only collected sparks ONCE. So does that mean you guys did the 3-2 method twice? Pardon my ignorance, pls.

Look at the group party in top left corner, you’ll see a ranger in the group. They were both Chars, both had pets on passive, both using longbow and in one vid, the ranger was de-petrifying party members.

I’ve been asking for a permanent stow pet for six months still nothing..
I completed Arah p4 awhile back in a group of 3 rangers (myself included), a warrior and an elementalist. Damage output seems to be the most important at the Dwayna boss as we failed repeatedly at the beginning until we decided to rethink our strategy and just go all out damage.
That is, everyone in full berserkers gear + food that gives crit damage + the undead slaying potions. We managed to kill the boss on our first attempt after changing our strat. Also, try to stow your pet immediately when you get out of combat to run the sparks. Try to dodge the spark attacks so that your pet doesn’t pop out again etc. Or just get someone else to do the sparks.
Ranger DM here – I finished Arah p4 last month before the update which reduced Simin’s healing.
If you are the only ranger in the group, you should be throwing tears, not because you have the least dps in the group, but because off all the professions, you have the most consistent dps while also throwing tears. I recommend the utilities, Search and Rescue (revive downed players who are meleeing), Frost Spirit (to buff everyone’s damage, very important), and either Quickening Zephyr or Viper’s Nest, depending on your traits. If you manage to poison Simin before she goes invis, it will reduce the rate she heals, but unless you use the trap traits, Viper’s Nest is impractical.
Make sure your party fights Simin in the middle of the western wall, where no sparks spawn (any good youtube guide will show you the exact spot). Further, make sure your party has gathered and collected a huge number of tears prior to beginning.
For pets, I recommend the Jungle Stalker for Mighty Roar and the Red Moa for Furious Screech. These pet skills, combined with Zephyr’s Speed trait, will further buff the damage of your party. Because the Jungle Stalker is a low power high precision feline pet, it also has the best damage scaling when buffed with might.
Pets should set to passive at all times. During the fight, while throwing tears, micromanage your pet constantly by using SaR, Mighty Roar, and Furious Screech. You should swap pets at every opportunity. Use the quickness on pet swap to increase the speed in which you throw tears and buff the group. When Simin turns invisible, IMMEDIATELY pick up a tear, order your pet to stand down (F3 skill) and sprint to the western wall where your group pulled Simin. You should join the melee stack for this moment (your pet will follow you here), and throw your tear if necessary. If you do this quickly and correctly your pet will never draw spark aggro. If your pet draws aggro it means either you or your spark runners messed up.
For your weapon sets, use a longbow and an axe/warhorn combo. Between tear throws, use a longbow to apply vulnerability. You won’t be at maximum range for the autoattack to be effective, but in the few seconds you have between tear throws, the vulnerability stack is the best benefit you can provide to your group. Use Hunter’s Call or Barrage (with quickness) for additional damage while throwing tears. It goes without saying that Call of the Wild should be used at every opportunity.
GOOD LUCK.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH DM. This has cleared up A LOT for me….LIKE A HELLLAVAHLOT!!!

I did arah p4 with pugs :P
It was tough definitely, but at the time, my guildies were all into AC and COF farming so i was always on pugs
And for lupicus, i only set pet to passive for phase 1, in phase 2 and 3 i get pets to attack as well and pull back when low health (not always possible in phase 2)
I liked the polar bear for tankiness and chilling
