This only happens when you as a thief want to stay in the fight. A ranger who can win you in 1v1 can never chase/catch you if you decide to escape. The ranger who has the ability to chase/catch you will be melted in 3 seconds by your BS+HS.

This is pretty true, but I’m doubtful about that talk of rangers being able to chase people down. With no blinks, 1 reliable (yet short ranged) immobilize skill, and 0 ranged hard cc( unless you want to push them further away with the longbow)

I have never been on a pad with more than 2 others, and usually one of them goes down within secs of entering.
That champ at the end of lane 1 is the easiest of the lot, my cat ‘tanked’ it while myself and one other player beat it down. We were only 2 players on the pad.
I am a full zerker sword/xx ranger, and I learned the best place for rangers during this event is staying outside in the lanes.
Ranger do not have the burst DPS needed to beat down the champs within the time limit, and if a ranger is paired up with other low burst DPS classes, the lane fails. Oh and any ranger not using melee in the arena has no business being in there. Bows cannot do it.
Leave the arena to the burst DPS classes. Do not waste the slot, go help defend another lane instead or the entire event will fail.
Playing selfishly for the AP’s guarantees the event fails.

Uh, no it won’t? You don’t need burst, you don’t even need high DPS, you need to SURVIVE, I play a kittening cleric geared mercy rune 0/0/20/20/30 ranger in PvE and my pad has yet to not kill their champion in time, even when said pad has only me and one other player on it.
The fights aren’t designed for burst, the fights are designed so you obey their mechanics, if you don’t obey the mechanics you normally get 1shot or can’t even DPS the mob. ESPECIALLY on the last guardian, I had to Rez so many people during that one because not standing in red circles is apparently too hard to do.

I don’t think I have ever seen someone pat themselves on the back so much for being a CC spam kiosk.
I enjoy shutting people down, there’s a reason I had 3 interrupts on my bar back in GW1 + a cripple spam, damage has never been something I’ve been into and I doubt it ever will.
One thing I can say though is when you can shut people down it makes it a hell of a lot easier to 2vX

Meh. Unless they stack blindness duration because I have no condition cleansing thieves are just a pest. Swoop, hilt bash, maul = dead.
I like that when roaming I’m such a magnet for thieves because they think “oh! A Ranger, easy kill!” and either they end up dead or running for the hills within a few seconds. Basilisk venom, black powder, #2#2#2#2#2#2#2#2#2#2 = every thief ever.

The people he’s fighting are soooo bad….. Them again that’s how most fights against people in WvW tend to be (outside their Zerg). Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good thief and I’ve done similar kitten on my ranger while I was screwing around in full zerker without runes or food buffs, I just prefer to be tanky/supporty for my play style and as such that’s what I stick to. As you’d imagine a tanky/supporty build doesn’t really 1v1 and win unless the enemy is extremely stupid and doesn’t just run away when they realize it’ll take like 7 minutes for me to kill them (totally over exaggerated).

Haha. Was chased down & killed by a ranger today and this ranger was powerful or just high survivability. Me- necromancer. Staff, dagger, war horn – corrosive cloud, plague, epidemic, locust swarm etc. More or less everything I threw their way did virtually no damage.
Whatever build the player had was impressive.

Just about every time I enter the platforms on my ranger my champ is one of the first to go down. Champ 1 is barely worth mentioning; I almost always have Champ 2’s attention so she is easy to drag through mines and keep flank damage; Champ 3 usually makes melee soup that I have to waste my valuable dodges (or my elite slot) cleaning up; Champ 4 is also barely worth mention, and between sword swath and traps; and as long as people aren’t dragging the minis around the arena Champ 5 dies like nothing.
Both my ranger and necro are the last one’s standing when I roll a platform with bads. If I roll a platform with equally (or better) skilled players, we beat the champ with time to spare. It is the skill of the player, not the build or class, that largely determines the outcome.

i never had a problem fighting thieves 1v1 on my zerker ranger in wvw. most of the times, thieves will stay to fight to the death and thats what i wanted. when they see me as a ranger they always think they can beat me. lol
it’s really a matter of who’s gonna make the most mistakes and when i duel thieves i make sure i dont make any. when i see a thief alone while i’m roaming, i see him as a free loot bag.

i dont usually engage a fight with a mesmer because i know how powerful they are in pvp when it comes to 1v1 battles. they are pretty much OP in 1v1. but ive once beaten them in a 2v3 fight.
it happened when i was building cannons on our castle gates when i saw 2 thieves and 1 mesmer ganking on a poor ranger. so i jumped off the gate and rained barrage over those three builles. good thing the other ranger was a regen type that’s why he didnt melt that fast. we were able to kill those two thieves and the mesmer tried to run with little health but i stunned him and continued to pressure him with my shortbow and stomped him. it was probably the best battle i’ve ever fought in wvw. :P
tbh, i dont see why people think rangers are bad in pve/wvw. it might be a l2p issue.
