Rangers soloing in Orr? Yes or no?
Everyone can solo in Orr, if they know what they are doing. There are some major differences between Orr and the rest of the zones, but you can eventually oversome that with terrain knowledge and keeping your eyes open for certain mobs. Some choke points are even harder to overcome then others, when soloing.
That being said, its not an easy place for most to get used to. Orr can potentially be enfuriating for some players. Time-in helps quite a bit.

I occasionally end up solo in Orr, but it definitely isn’t a zone designed for it. My best advice is to LFG/guild-group, learn the DE’s and follow the crowd – you will make a ton of cash in the drops and (with boosters) solid karma. If you really want to solo, I would recommend zones that don’t have L80/81 mobs packed quite so closely together; one mob won’t kill you, but three or four can put you down faster than you can type “mommy”.
Soloing in Orr as a Ranger isn’t bad as long as you’re not using glass cannon stats. I use a Longbow-Shortbow Marksmanship/Skirmishing/Wilderness Survival build for solo farming in Orr that works fairly well.
The only thing I really have to watch out for is Veteran Risen Abominations. (They can down me in three or four hits, they ignore pets, they’re immune to all forms of crowd control, they have a fast knockdown that’s nearly impossible to dodge, and they can run faster than a swiftness-buffed player. I think Zhaitan came up with them after being annoyed by a Ranger once too often.)
You won’t have any problem soloing in Orr with any kind of build, be it glass cannon or not even if you use the worst weapon.
Only problem might be certain Veterans and only if they are packed with other mobs…but that goes pretty much for all classes.
The worst part about Orr is that the mobs act differently then everything else you’ve encountered before. They run at top speeds, and they ignore your pet. Still, it’s pretty easy to solo even with our kittened traits and weapons. You just gotta be aware of the area you are in because the zones are chop filled with mobs.
Depends on what you intend to ‘solo’. If you’re going to Orr to farm, rangers can do it without any real problem. But if you plan on doing DEs, getting vistas, or POIs, then things get a bit more difficult because of the increased spawn rates. Combine that with the AI Lobo mentioned and Orr quickly becomes a pain.
I run a condition / prec / power build on my ranger, and can take down vet giants in Cursed Shore.
Rangers can get by in Orr just fine solo. You have to pay attention but I solo the vet giants for farming when event aren’t up (lots of grubs).
As a previous posted mentioned the veteran risen abominations should be avoided though, as well as most champions (broodmother isn’t too bad).
I’m having a tough time in the last level of Orr, mobs actually overtake me.
It can be fun with a party (Few and far between), personally I hate Orr most of the time.
Orr is only slightly less trivial than other soloable areas, If you build for a bit of survivability (at least in gear if not in traits) it should not be any problem at all.
Glass Cannon is not a good way to go in Orr i would think (however i have not tried it) due to how enemies mostly ignore pets, utilise CC abilities a lot and move freakin fast.
I find ML much easier then CS…which I hate. Also, you have to learn what areas are easier then others to farm. Even grabbing one partner makes it easier tho. If you see someone doing the same thing as you…going node to node…just ask to group up.
If you’re running a glass cannon LB/SB build, Orr can be highly frustrating. The worst zone is Cursed Shores. The mobs ignore your pet, and some run as fast as you—-they will go straight for you. It is a pain trying to kite them. There are mobs that immobilise you, mobs that pull you to them, mobs that knock you down. You just have to be aware of where you are and what you engage. Due to the number of spawns, you can easily aggro another mob while you’re kiting your first. That said, I currently run a highly survivable condition dmg/toughness/precision trap build with SB/axe/torch and I have no problems farming in Orr. I was glass cannon built before that, but I just got sick of kiting every single mob. Don’t worry too much about it, when you reach Orr you’ll find out what works and what doesn’t. Dont be afraid to experiment with new builds.
My ranger is traited 0/0/30/10/30 and wears a full set of exotic carrion emblazoned armor. I usually use raven, hawk or eagle pets.
I have no trouble running anywhere I want in Cursed Shore. I put my bird on passive and just hoof it. When I do get immobilized, I have enough toughness and vitality to survive. Also I have 2 seconds of protection on dodge so I use that situationally as needed, but usually I don’t have to unless I’ve agroed too many at once. I also use the signets in passive mode that provide healing and toughness. I have a lot of toughness.
I also have no problems killing things either. I have a lot of power and condition damage with my gear. I use sword/horn or shortbow for single targets and axe/horn for multiple targets. I never have any real issues and have soloed champions with his build. Not champions in Cursed Shore mind you, but still…
Anymore, about the only times I die in PvE are when falling from jumping puzzles.
I have a glass cannon, LB/ sword+warhorn setup on my ranger with 30/30/0/10/0 as my traits, exotic power /perc /crit dmg gear from CoF and rare accessories of the same stats setup. I’m using a red moa as my pet with a carrion as backup. Between my moa f2 skill (gives 20% increase in crit chance), swapping weapons which gives me a small amount of fury as well, and the warhorn #5 skill I pretty much have +20% chance to crit (using rampage as one on occasion). Combining that with increased perc from my warhorn sigil, I sit somewhere around 85% (don’t remember the exact number, should go up a little when I make exotic accessories).
Point being, it seems stacking enough crit makes mobs really easy to kill in Orr, and I haven’t noticed any problems farming. Being squishy can be annoying at times though, with some DEs having a lot of mobs, but I’m running signet of stone that makes the pet invincible for 6 seconds. Combining that with signet of the beastmaster, I also don’t take damage for a little while. It comes in handy as a last resort tactic.
So basically what I’m saying is, in my experience at least, I wouldn’t worry about being able to solo or not. You’ll be able to farm just fine. But if you’re like me and went with a glass cannon build, you just need to pay attention before pulling more than a few mobs. I’m no expert by any means so if I can do it with 16k health and little defence, you should be fine
Also, you don’t need exotics to farm there, start off with what you have and you’ll get a hang for the place. Just don’t pull too many mobs until your comfortable.
Orr is crap for any class. For rangers, you seriously need to be careful. Risen avoid pets like the plague, preferring to kill you instead. They also run super fast and aggro easily and tend to come in big mobs.
Really appreciate the input folks. Thank you! I have a ways to go yet but this information will help me figure out a game plan build and stat wise.
