Rangers with Power/Toughness/Vit Sets.
Unless you really love the skin or you absolutely hate PvE, you can get the same stats from Ascalon Catacombs (one of the easiest/fastest sets to get).
That set is mainly for a tanky build…a melee oriented build. I have one of these sets myself and being honest i’ve never used it. I guess people that run greatsword/tanky builds can really make use of it, other than that you won’t really need it imo.
Maybe not the best answer, but:
Before you consider buying a new armor wait for the next patch (15th).
Ranger will get buffed/changed in several areas.
Creating plans and a build now might end up in you regretting it in 2 weeks.
However:
If the Sword gets fixed (currently it’s clumsy and the chain disables your dodge) it might be a good weapon to start with.
At the moment the horn is the strongest off-hand choice, unless dagger/axe get an extreme buff this would be a good thing to start your build with.
Ascended Gear-progression disables WvW for us.
Stop it now!
To the second poster:
At this point, its not so much a problem of the stats or looks, getting gear is not difficult. However these badges take up a lot of room and I already have more Gifts of Battle than I need. I need to get rid of these badges by buying the Invader set, but the problem is for who? Which class can make the best use of these stats? I have a guardian already with a full invaders set and was wondering if rangers can put them to good use as well.
I really, really like WvW and I’m collecting the badges for the set – so I may actually buy the set to try it out too.
I had thought about those stats myself as that’s what I use in sPvP, but after thinking it over constantly I finally decided on Carrion armor for the power/vit/condi damage stats. My reasons is that I use the SB/LB combination for damage and am usually in the back. The Power would give my SB some umpf and the condition damage will benefit the SB bleeds as well as using Sharpening Stone with the LB Barrage to stack bleeds on a larger group.
The vitality would obviously be for survival and a little extra damage from the %5 vit to power trait.
I’m not seeing very large numbers yet, but to be fair I’m not even 80 yet, I’ve just now dinged 78.

Unfortunately there’s not a single post or any evidence to say that the patch on 15th will bring any profession changes.

The patch most definitely will have bug fixes for ranger. I fixed two earlier today alone. Realistically, however we can only do a patch every few weeks if we expect to make more than minor improvements so all the things I talked about will be in the next big patch which is about 2 weeks away.

So, it’s not necessarily a -tanky- set, but more of a durable offensive set (IE if you have 30/30/x/x/x it’ll balance you out but still make you REALLY hurt people) not to mention that in WvW this set of armor can quite literally be the difference between life and death due to all the damage flying around!!
All that being said, is this armor transmuteable? And how did you get so many badges O.o?!?
