Rank 1 Legendary Prestige LB/GS build
You are all about bursting and ccing, and forcing big cooldowns of youre enemies.
So that’s where Power Shatter went.
Looks like fun, though. Have you tried it with the Valkyrie amulet to max out the Opening Strike burst, or is trading off the more frequent crits not worth it?
Tanya Larina – Human Thief
Finchy Whyte – Sylvari Ranger
Hm…
You know, it’s been a long time since I did any PvP just because I hate how much rage and general kittenery goes on there…
But after watching this video, I feel almost inclined to try again. You play exactly the same way I do except I don’t use Druid. Bait the major skills and counter pressure when their cooldowns are ticking. I just figured that in high tier PvP players would be skilled enough to work around this kind of thing. Maybe I should give it another shot to see how high I can climb, though.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius

I feel Druid is mandatory, melee is your strongest burst and you can’t safely disengage without Celestial Avatar’s stealth. Also Druid’s Grandmaster is the only reason you can reliably win 1v1s vs most of the builds.
Also In my video #2 I play pretty much exclusively against Pro League players, It’s all about timing your skills. Takes a while of practice to learn the times of your animations.
Hi, I am Miaz, I’ve been playing power ranger build since I started playing the game and with Healing Druid build being the most relevant recently I wanted to see how far I can push it with my old fashion build. In few days worth of grind I ended up making it to the top of European ladder, and I must say that the build is pretty strong. It plays way different than most builds, since unlike most meta builds it has horrible sustained damage. You are all about bursting and ccing, and forcing big cooldowns of youre enemies. The build is based on Marksmanship traitline which provieds a 95% damage increase modifier for you and your pet burst ability when set up correctly. Link to the build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRjUqQDL2vCusAXLW+DM4zab9uu86yABgn0wP4oVywSD-TpBFABiXGYhDBQDHBAf2fAgLAABPAAA
The most important factor is to know which utilities to chose, against heavy condi comp you may use the renewal signet, but also lightnight reflexes which in my eyes is more interesting and fun around to play with. It helps kiting off the ranged condi classess well enough. Also you have choice between Rune of the Mesmer( more cc) or Vampirism ( more life force, better vs condi). I’ve recently made a video with my highlights playing in Legend up to Prestige 2 20 pips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpbTQLlujzo
And here’s proof of me being rank 1: http://i.imgur.com/LCYtcmS.jpg
And I also have a vido that shows the tricks and burst set up you can pull off, but against lower tier enemies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tgS1s67UU8
Overal, I’d like to encourage anyone who have been iching for some archer gameplay a shot at this build. I’d like to open people’s eyes that you can play any reasonable build, as long as you have practice on it – and do well. Even become the highest rated in your region. Also, some people asked about how a dedicated PvP player’s win ratios look like, here’s a GW2 efficiency shot:

Just my 2 cents. Lead the wind is imo better. You only have 3 fury sources, 1 of which is terrible. I tested the GS trait multiple times and watched how many times it procs. 1 of which is an elite. Tiger is the only reliable one you have,

No way lead the wind is better. Tiger with the 95% modifier hits up to 8-9k. This build has TERRIBLE sustained damage already, so attack speed doesn’t help at all. And your GS-Tiger combo can take 80% of enemy’s health. Also improves LB-Smoke burst by roughly 2k.

I get your point, totally. All I am saying is that maybe you can add additional fury sources to make the most out of remorseless? like pack runes or etc.
You always have it up for your bust, since Tiger’s F2 fury is applied before the damage. And you have it for your Longbow+smoke quickness combo since you get it on petswap. You don’t need any more of it. Empowering autoattacks on Ranger is pointless.
Great job, first and foremost! It reminds me of what Eurantien was doing before his life circumstances changed and pulled him away from GW2 (if I remember correctly).
If you’re looking for a marginal improvement to the build at all (it may affect some functionality you’ve gotten used to), you’d maximize damage output better by picking Scholar Runes. Just food for thought, it’s a different option, not a better option. Dolyak Runes could also be a thing purely because of their added Celestial Avatar availability, but for you particularly, I doubt that’s something you’d need at this point, and with condi not being something that’s stacked across multiple classes on a team anymore, you might not necessarily need Celestial Form for cleansing as much as last season, which is part of what makes Dolyak Runes a strong choice.
But yeah. If you’re comfortable with it, you could also try swapping out the energy sigil for a hydromancy sigil on the GS. You lose the endurance on swap but gain an immediate burst of damage from the hydro hit + leeching and then have that Maul ready to go and it be even easier to land.
Beyond that, congrats on the climb and reddit frontpage!
It’s been a very long time (pre-HoT) since I played Marauder ranger myself, at least, LB/GS. I swapped over to staff awhile ago, and play either staff/gs or staff/lb. It isn’t really the same, but staff ends up working out just fine, usually moreso in the case where I don’t take LB because I have staff. Not that I’d sell you on the playstyle at all, but besides the knockback and barrage, you lose almost nothing by running staff over lb. Especially with quickness. Also my 2c, but seeing as how you are doing just fine, it’s more to create a discussion that I say this, because I don’t believe any 1 way is the right way

Almost the exact same build that I play, however, I find myself having to use Steady Aim and Lead the Wind instead of Moment of Clarity and Remorseless because of the amount of stability spam in the game. Good players on proper “meta” builds will for the most part roll over you unless you have good backup teammates.
For the most part though, in my experience, Druid builds which use staff will be much more successful in their fights as reflects are far too common these days. But as an alternative build, it’s pretty decent I have to admit.
Nice tip on the Moment of Clarity + Remorseless pet nuke btw, that didn’t occur to me.
Anyways, gratz on Legendary.
Steady Aim and Lead the Wind take away all the burst damage modifiers, and Longbow 1, GS 1 are terrible autoattacks under 7k DPS which is why i’d never take a sustained damage trait. Like, you don’t ever go over 600k dps done. You’re a burst class. That’s why you don’t care about reflects. Also, I can pull it off on my own, if your timing is right good playres won’t roll over you, in fact i have 1v1 vs some of the top players in EU on metabuilds in my vid. I’ll try to record a ranked game with a commentary to show how to use this build properly since people think it’s unsafe and try to go back to safer options for ranged. But that option is just not a good build since as you stated, you’re gonna just get reflected and even with that in HoT Longbow auto attack is a joke, even if it use to be good earlier.

Yes please!

That is exactly what is happening to me. I am testing his build, which is pretty solid btw, but when facing meta builds the stability spam is too strong. If i don’t have my team to back me up i am pretty sure dead. And i don’t know if its only me but its harder to solo defend your home point in this build, ofc we must take in consideration that i only played it for a couple hours, so not that used to the build yet.
Gratz on Legendary, OP!

OP stated that the build is different to be played.
I, especially, had lots of trouble playing this sort of builds. My playstyle was much more passive. I always knew what and when to counter/evade but I was bad at pressuring the “open-windows” and hitting during them.
This build rewards you greatly for hitting at the right time but if you miss the windows – you’ll get punished. You’ll technically run out of cooldowns and that’s it.
The build looks interesting and very few people would expect it. I’m not sure if Power Shatter mesmer couldn’t take up on it’s role while providing more utility, though. Mesmer’s burst is also ten times more difficult to notice.
Also, congratz on the Legendary, OP.

This is how I felt about it as well.
I am going in solo ranked, no back up, I can light someone up, but after that, I get focussed and once that happens gg.

I think what gives me the upper hand is that I’ve been playing variation of this build (GS/LB) basically since I started PvPing in GW so I’m used to animations and know how to time my skills right. My point of view, melee (GS) is stronger than LB, but you can’t go melee unless you have astral (to disengage safely). When using Longbow try to sit on unteleportable spots so revs/thiefs don’t bully you too much. And yeah it’s HoT PvP so counting dodges is important for dps builds since once you miss your skills you just get bullied out and have to run.
Also, I’ve made my 3rd montage, a few clips from last few days just for fun. A bit shorter this time, but that’s because I wanted to show something new, rather than being recurrent.

what do you think about Taunt Vs Zephyr?

Wouldn’t ever give taunt up. It’s the best utility skill due to very short cd, gives you so many ways of outplay. And the only way you can handle thieves without Protective Ward. I’d play Zephyr besides taunt and signet, but only against comps without condi pressure.
You’re good. I enjoy the vids—good stuff.
This build, is not good.
The ranger vs ranger fight and vs the warrior—-took forever in a build that is super glassy.
I can’t help but wonder how many times during that fight were you one mistake away from being dead.
I don’t know about all you super druids out there, but I can’t pull that off.
GL if you can.
Cheers to you personally and your skill level.

And more fun = more effort.
I can see how the build works for the dedicated ones. It is precisely one of the ways which some people lean towards.
We all know it won’t appear in World Championships but it’s an entertaining way to play in your free time that can bring forth success.
Personally, I’m far too slow for this playstyle, which is why I really like to see videos of ppl mastering it – nice work, Nila!
I’ve been toying around with these kinds of builds for a good while, but I think I personally prefer the wildnerness survival over beastmastery approach.
Btw, your runeslot is wasted. Mesmer runes don’t stack with moment of clarity, not even after they nerfed the trait from 100 % to 50 %.
Yeah I’m only using Vampirism now.
I’ll have over 20 minute Marksmanship Ranger(this build) video guide up tomorrow.
Meanwhile some core ranger roaming for good old times sake:

I heavily enjoy your work and videos. It’s exactly something I missed.
It’s enjoyable to watch, it’s educative and it’s dynamic. People don’t fall asleep after 7 minutes of healing in circles.
I’ll definitely look forward to your next video.
This is an example of superior twitch player being able to take a bad build and beat less skilled people which there are plenty of even at legendary level.
They don’t have to be bad players to get killed by this build. Sometimes it is just a matter of not being familiar with this kind of playstyle and not expecting the burst. If it would be more common, players would lern how to counter it – and pretty much all meta builds should have the tools to deal with this build.

It doesn’t take much time to figure out how to counter this build. There is still plenty of projectile hate in current meta builds. Either through reflects or just blocks.
I realize GS is the other weapon, but that’s even more of a gamble to run in and try to melee it up.
Like you mentioned, all meta builds have the tools to deal with this.
Fight a team with an engi, guard and a warrior. Have fun w/that.

Pretty much this.
The skilled already know how to counter “druids” – which is countering bristleback and smokescale while keeping their pressure but using CC only when the druid enters CAF.
This build doesn’t play around CAF – and provides burst in a completely different way than any “powerful” druid build. That simple fact makes the playstyle superior in terms of moment of surprise. By the time the enemy figures out where does the damage come from and how to counter it – the match is usually long over.
First of all thank you Miaz very much for bringing this build) Was playing shatter mesmer and power rev, but now i’m stuck with power druid.
Really fun and insane lockout from this build coupled with burst make this build a pain in the kitten for almost everyone, especially necros in my 6 tier of diamond)
You mentioned you have 20 min video and i’m here to ask how soon we will see it?)
Best regards

Watch my video #2. Somehow I was available to beat 3/5 players out of TCG (best team in the world atm) in a 1v1 and 2 players of oRNG(top4 eu). Also a lot of other top tier players/ from proleague.

Reflects/blocks are TOTALLY IRRELEVANT since you ALWAYS burst with quickness into cc(MoC proc), this build has nothing to do as sustained dmg.

I have merged my guide with my playstyle/how to play video as well as tips/tricks which show some really unpredictable ways to burst, 9 evades at once and other.
The video is 50 minutes long and is gonna be up on my YouTube on Tuesday at 19:00 BST.
Don’t play PvP much but always nice for druid fanboys like me to see other skilled druids kick some behind
This is a great build, i’ve been playing around with something very similar and rarely lose a fight when running on my Druid. I will say though that this can be tough in solo q even though Druid can sustain itself pretty well. A good rev or thief makes this really great.
Couldn’t finish the vid properly because my PC got stolen. I’ll be back for sure though for the new PvP season with guide and more highlight videos, so stay tuned. This vid shows some new cool stuff, although it’s just a raw iterration of a project that was further in development, unfortunately I only had access to this version and I still wanted to show something off since I didn’t upload for ages.

A few months ago, i posted a build and a video with some highlights on reddit. Here’s the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/50nszt/rank_1_legendary_prestige_leaderboard_ranger_lbgs/ People seem to not have a good idea how to play the build though, so for the new season I’m going to be pumping out clips focused more on raw footage than just the kill highlights. Of course I’ll only upload clips against top players so that you may get something out of the videos. Off we go with the first one, in which I do some good plays against two players from top 5 of the leaderbaord. To those wondering why I deleted my old channel, I had rought time irl so I delted all stuff regarded to guild wars, but now I’m back for good.
Hey Nila, thanks for reposting. I really am looking for something like this. I’ll need to study a bit because I am less than great with LB, but this is exciting. Anything you can add will be helpful! Thanks!

Just to follow up. I’ve been using this slight variation, and it works quite well.
It’s pretty much the same thing tweaked to handle more direct damage. It is weaker to conditions. I just find thieves and DHs everywhere at the moment. SotW grants un-blockable attacks for its duration.
Condi mesmer is probably your biggest threat, but the unblockable attacks can make quick work of it. Go invisible, pop signet and maul them.

oh no… srsly using tiger? Leap attacks are the easiest to dodge or just run away from. And good luck keeping that glassy tiger alive long enough for a second attack. But I see why you went for the vlun applied on its auto attack. Thats a good 3% added damage for the next…what…like 5 or 6 seconds?

You clearly don’t get the point. It is a bursting build, and you don’t really do anything besides LB1 for consistent dmg. You only use tiger for its F2 on petswap with quickness to easily land it hilt bash into MoCRM procs and guarantee a huge crit.
Also update: Reached Legendary today and gonna upload some clips after christmas

ive more-or-less been using this exact build, but for solo pve lol
only difference is i use skirmishing instead of druid
I give this build 10/10 but there is only 1 negative thing :
You NEED to be with good players. if ONE screw up, this build becomes 3/10 instantly.
I managed to kill a bunker ele with this build that’s why i’m happy.
this will sound so stupid i have tried these builds and i can not get the hang of it this is coming from a condi druid that uses short bow. i know i know wtf do you mean you can not use this build you use a short bow you should be able to use a long bow lol. i know i do not know what it is. wish i could looks fun. i guess shortbow sword torch is just for me
Vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtN6AhpqGnI I’m back with a highlight reel of the games i played yesterday in NA SoloQ. Mostly duoQing with Jeffarr, trying to get his main to top3 on the leaderboard, well somehow he made it, to rank 3. This highlight reel is half-serous and will contain some gameplay as well as some memes. I’d like to get feedback whether this is somehow something mildly entertaining and wheter the duration is bearable. In this particular vid i featured 3 builds. Marauder Marksmanship GS/LB , Marauder Nature Magic Staff/LB and Mender’s Marksmanship Staff/LB. Overally I’m really enjoying all the salt and memes in the new league system. If there are any unanswered questions, I’m happy to answer them. Also video features voices of HalfDevil, Crysis, D Dongs, Mango and Marvin. I also borrowed the outro to this from Sammpo.
WoW, some nice moves, thanx for making this video.
I think this is a good player who’s is pushing the meta good kitten once again dude, encouraged me to brush off my remorseless build, granted i take trooper instead (seems to help me catch that pesky last Condi)
I’m really enjoying the videos and seeing your builds. Please keep them coming.
Dude this build carried me to to plat in 1 day. I think it just plays into my style better. ive been for the longest time trying to make remorseless work and since i stole the vamprisim rune idea from you man its great
