How bad an idea is using the Raven pet I really love it but I don’t see anyone else with one

I am using a Axe, War Horn main with bow as secondary

Which game mode we talking?

I use Raven quite a bit in PvP and WvW roaming. It hits like a truck and the blind is very useful for stomping.

PVE leveling at moment I am only level 20

We’re talking about leveling here, there’s nothing bad about playing something so long as it fits your needs : nobody cares if your build works now.

And I am actually leveling a ranger with alpin wolf/raven, and love how they can help me to deal with veteran so easily.

Enjoy your build to enjoy your leveling, you will have enough time to care about your choice once you’re 80.

The whole reason why birds aren’t popular is that they got this huge handicap called “quickening screech” which is an auto skill that just root your pet for way too long because of a kitten animation.
Probably, the day they will let us disable some autoskill on our pet, Birds pet would become the most used pet for rangers. But, until then, the “quickening screech” animation just cripple way to much birds.

People run it in PvP though. Matter of preference between Raven and Snow Owl – do you prefer Chill or Blind? No more differences. And Ravens look cooler.

PvE do whatever you want. Dungeons you want cats. PvP you want Birds, Dogs or Spiders. WvW you want Cats, Dogs, Spiders. That’s a general rule of thumb I have but it can obviously be changed up a bit.

A bird is one if not the best pet for leveling. The do the 2nd highest damage and they give you swiftness so you can go explore faster.

which does the highest damage?

Cats. Jaguar specifically, and the jungle stalker gets a nod because of the AoE might.

I think drakes are in the conversation if there are enough enemies it hits, but I also think cats outdamage drakes even then. Not too sure on it though, but it’s not worth the effort to surround your pet with enemies when we’re talking speed, IMO.

Edit: I think it’s also worth mentioning the eagle for it’s pretty large bleeds on a short cooldown, since we’re talking open world. The lynx is one to consider for the same reason.

For leveling nothing beats drakes, they tank like champions while still having decent single target damage, cleave and massive burst in the F2 skill and they also grab aggro wich a bird or cat will not do wich just makes life so much easier while leveling up, if you also use axe I don’t think there are even many champions your drake can’t tank with ease.

IIRC, Jaguar. Cats die too fast for me though, so I do not usually take them.

For WvW I take Wolf/Raven as they provide access to the two conditions I do not have (Fear and Blind). Quickening screech can get a little annoying if you are wanting to kill something fast, but it doesn’t get in the way all that often.
