Stomp some Piken!
hello fellow rangers,
like in a few posts mentioned, the “read the wind” trait sounds very underwhelming. i play my ranger for around 2 month with longbow / sword axe exclusive and have no problems hitting moving targets. the problem a ranger with a longbow is facing are lack of condition remove and lack of gap openers, which are necessary to survive and do damage.
i have come up with 2 alternatives that i think, would fit a lot better and are worth a grandmaster trait
Close Quarter Archer the damage reduction when close to your enemy is off
Quickly Pull the base attack speed is increased by 20-25%

When looking at the memser and necromancer new traits, they just make us look even worse and we will be deader faster.
This is horridly disappointing.

Brilliant ideas!
This “new” trait is useless for us. So they’re effectively forcing us to play at max range, when EVERY single dungeon gorup wants to stack stack stack.
Also, there is no mention of fixing the long list of problems with pets!
Lastly, as someone else mentioned, this new trait/buff is something we should already have as passive! So it’s not really an improvement to add something that should already be there by default and paint it up as a pretty picture upgrade!
They’re not forcing rangers to do anything. You still have a choice NOT to use this trait, and frankly it was made to boost the damage and tagging capabilities of zerglings using 1500 range, and nothing more.

I dont know if I agree, rapid fire was already great for tagging in wvw zerg, and your arrows always hit someone.
My thought is it might be useful small scale when you fight a knowledgeable opponent who is countering you specifically and knows to side straff your attacks. I often find a lot of misses under this circumstance where it might be useful.
The only thing is I dont know if I could replace signet of beast /signet of stone invulnerabilty with something like “protect me” and a bear.

The issue I have in small scale battles is how long are you actually shooting a target at 1500 range? The trait will have no real impact at normal range as side stepping is less of an issue. And like I said before, is the trait going to have any real impact on how we use skills 2 through 5? Probably not because these skills aren’t used at max range.
So we have a trait which already doesn’t fit in the tree it’s in. It affects one weapon for the class. And ultimately, it only has any real practical use on one skill for that weapon. And worse still.. only really at 1500 range for that skill.
And this is a GM trait…because?
I had 2 alternatives in mind.
1. Your arrows have an X% chance to become unblockable.
This could even be 100% with no cooldown to avoid the specific situations where classes will be blocking.
2. Each longbow hit inflicts an extra stack of Vulnerability for 2s.
This will help increase our DPS over the long term in all aspects of gameplay.
Would like others thoughts on these, as I have made up numbers on what seems powerful for a GM trait, but also not overpowered compared to other classes.
I’ve been thinking about some…
Trait which resets cooldown for one of weapons skills on CD (not chain) upon heal/Interrupt
Or
Trait for MM:
Practiced Stance
Your bow attacks (Hunter’s Shot, PBS, Crippling/Concussive Shot) are now usable when retreating. If you’re struck by foe within 500 range, cripple everyone around for 2 seconds and gain 1.5 second of Haste (5 second ICD).
I guess this new grandmaster trait would be good for PVP or WVW????
I don’t foresee me using it in any PVE/Dungeon situation.
Not every trait is meant to be useful in all game modes.
Take Moment of Clarity, Predator’s Profani…ekhm… Instinct , Terror…. Many others. They don’t serve any purpose outside competitive game modes because, most of the times because of Stability/Defiant spam
I use moment of clarity in dungeons and pve. Mostly because of vets and when champs have lost their defiance… granted, with the champs it doesn’t happen often, but it does. But that seems silly to have even 1/16th of the traits “not meant” for PVE or WVW or PVP, depending on how you are looking at it. Seems like a scape-goat answer to a lackluster grandmaster trait. Gimme one that allows me to get rid of the pet, then we’re talking
I’m just not holding out ANY hope that they are going to do anything that is going to make me want to play my ranger again.
My Suggestion: Make Read the Wind standard, make Piercing Arrows standard, and merge Eagle Eye and Spotter. Then, replace Read the Wind with Close Quarters: your Longbow auto attack always hits for maximum range co-efficient. Make Remorseless a Master Trait, and replace it with a new Grandmaster trait.
