Guild Wars 2

Hey guys,

so far i played every class in wvw/spvp and i left ranger untouched didn’t even have one to be honest but then the character slot was on sale.
As you can imagine i bought it right away and made my ranger ( is about a month ago).

I highly feel ranger is underestimated by a lot of people ( the class it self not the players playing it).
Ranger is really powerful in dueling and taking on small groups with any sort of build if played right, it has a lot of diversity you can run with power, condi, might stacking builds u name it.

This said i love my ranger!

Little bit about my spec:

I use high mobility to counter getting bursted or simply get out range to use my short bow as an advantage against melee player’s while avoid getting stun locked by timing my evades on my sword and dagger as well use my utility s to snare and condi bomb.

For thieves i try to stay long ranged a bit more when they are out of stealth and in stealth i try to stay close and keep evading/snaring till they lose their stealth and then interrupt them when needed (swapping pets when they try to cloak and dagger).

When i fight condition or ranged player’s i mainly avoid the condition’s by using my sword and dagger for evading and get close to them and snaring them drop my condi’s and go back to ranged so i can regen (out of range of lets say engineer bombs).

As for my pets i use the black widow spider for loads of poison fields and immobilization and the Fern hound for knockdown (interrupts a lot) and the extra regen.

I dont usually like condi build videos (can gear to have far more survivability than power specs while dealing damage passively, snorefest / cheese), but I really enjoyed your vid man.

• Good action play despite being condi.
• Mostly outnumbered, so what wouldve been OP 1v1 is now probably in your opponents favor
• Was not just another main-hand Axe spec

The vid couldve used some necro or clone-death mesmer fights. I dont think i saw any necros and the one mesmer i recall seemed like glass. Not sure I could tolerate playing without any runspeed or swiftness, but you seem to be doing a kitten good job.

Thanks for the reply and the support.

I mostly tried fighting condition spec’d people because the stigma condition damage builds have and so it would be more of a fair match (or outnumbered i love that no matter what i’m running).

Besides that i went on to make my complete own build i wanted to make something that i felt comfortable using and that i liked i’m not very fond of grabbing a random build of the web and go.

Running something original and out of the ordinary ( as far as that can go) is also more fun in my perspective, i do however ask some advice once in a while like finishing some last stat piece that i just can’t figure out for whatever reason.

PS: Not really sure my sentence structure is correct right now (sleepy as hell) xD

Do you think that using perplexity runes with shortbow could work? Or do you need to stick with traveler’s or similar? (I didn’t see the build as the website is down but i guess that’s what you’re running) cause i was wondering about some hybrid apothecary/rabid build with sigil of torment + perplex runes but i’m not sure if it could work at all..

I do think it could work but i’m not a strong advocate of perplexity.
As for an Apothecary/rabid build with torment sigils it can work but u have to make sure you maintain enough condition damage and regen as well as precision this might take some brainstorming.

Sadly the site is down at the moment for whatever reason i don’t know but, i can tell you i’m using a dire and Apothecary mix.

Ohoo, liked zeh music you used in that video. Some little things to keep in mind tho when you go out adventuring next time! You could try “shotgunning” shortbow’s #2 Poison Volley more often, meaning you shoot it when you are right next to your target so all 5 arrows actually lands and causes more damage rather than shooting the air. It only tickles them if you shoot from far away. You could also try and take more advantage over your Flame Trap, kite around and shoot through it for the combo finisher, also leaping through it for fire aura.

Yes i could make more usage of the volley that is true, and i do make a lot of use of my combo field on the flame trap for the fire aura or the burning on projectiles when given the right opportunity.

Too bad you don’t show all the time you died to good players in this well edited video you’re fighting bad players with a cheesy troll build, it isn’t anything new here.

don’t know (or care) if it’s an “old cheese build”….as i’m new to ranger in WVW and would like an effective build to complete world mapping.

seems like a well constructed roaming build, and most importantly, it looks really fun/active to play.

I’m using flame trap in combination with muddy terrain so i can condi bomb people
immobilize>flame trap>bleeds>poison also, i’m using flame trap for fire aura so i get might whenever i’m struck + i get burning on projectiles.

I can’t really describe the ’’rotation’’ but you could watch my video how to generally use it.

Ill try to describe how i generally enter a fight tough, i usually start of with long ranged on my short bow and apply some bleeds and then after i have evade most of their damage or cc i try to get close with my sword apply poison immobilize them and burn them with flame trap also using my immobilize on my pet and the roots if they have already dodged.

For my sustain i mostly pop my healing skills while i’m still high health so you can keep it that way with the regeneration and when i need to heal up again i immobilize them and kite away with sword.

Now about your replacement it’s really about what you are comfortable with Lightning Reflexes is really nice for more evades, condi removal and an extra stun breaker.
Protect me could be nice using it for some invulnerability giving you the chance to regenerate. I just prefer flame trap for more pressure on the enemy especially melee.

just a small tip, when you stomp someone with a knockdown / pull (warriors / engineer) get behind your pet so your pet gets hit instead of you.

hmm i normally just dodge but that could in handy thanks for the tip!

im usually lazy on dodging it so my pet is a useful meatshield for that :P
